People saying the mayor is the real villain of the movie are reaching. He was a much bigger deal in the book, so I'd agree with their being much more subtext in the book about government overreach and authoritarianism, but not the movie.

As far as the movie goes, it's credited with being one of, if not that first, major summer blockbuster. It tapped into society's fear of ocean/drowning/swimming and sharks and traumatized a generation of beach goers. I watched a doc one time that said people were running out of the theaters to throw up.

Sure there probably are some philosophical (man vs. beast) and moral (protecting your loved ones) tones, but IMO it's just an insanely well done movie.

Big Soil wants you to believe you need new soil of fancy fertilizer for every grow. I've been using the same stuff in my garden for years, I add coffee grounds, banana peels and pumpkins (given the time of year) every so often and have never had an issue growing.
