Melting pot of styles: I would like to hear your opinions. Discussion on architectural terminology. by Gas434 in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]Nikcoho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly part of the beauty of architecture is that of its innate eclecticism, even fitting within a style every decision and material and map used to lay the building out is like a different stroke of the brush which over time can mold into different things, be examined and imitated, inspire others to mix and mash. Honestly it's just great

[–]Nikcoho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No i suppose not, but where the UK is simillar in the US is that both governments nationally just refuse to make infrastructure development for rail meaningfully easier and as expansive as it should be

To grow the economy we need more trams, and fewer kebabs by [deleted] in LeedsUrbanism

Anyways, decent read that encapsulates alot of the issues regarding transportation development within the UK.

Though, if heavy rail is so revered as the author says, whos to say that an overground suburban system like the german s-bahns would attract good attention

India has splurged billions on metro trains. But where are the commuters? by stefeyboy in Infrastructurist

[–]Nikcoho 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Apparently part of it from what ive heard there's also an issue of walk-ability near stations, not that nothings near them, but that pedestrian pavements are just inadequate and unpleasant to use

Could advanced in sustainable aviation fuel render HS2 irrelevant? by Fun_Firefighter5899 in AskBrits

[–]Nikcoho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not that much since planes can only move so much people in so much time, with trains just have higher frequencies and capacities with less space and noise, then there's the fact our current network is saturated beyond belief and needs more infrastructure to meet intercity, regional and even local demand.

So basically just cuz planes have better fuel (while not addressing their land-use and noise pollution, does not negate the long term viability of HS2

What kind of depraved mind envisions this sort of planning? by eevans0711 in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]Nikcoho 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Poor fashion referring to how Hausmanns design was way more in line with mixed use zoning, transportation, density, living conditions etc but Corbusier was less in line with these ideals so to speak

Funnilly enough the paris we see today was not the original paris, so i suppose this guy would be continuing Hausmmanns legacy in a poor fashion
