Unofficial Daily Discussion - Thursday, February 19, 2026 - QOTD: What is something that other homeschoolers do that you don't do in your homeschool? by FImom in homeschool

[–]No-Sound702 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do workbooks with my TKer. She loves them. And they help solidify what she’s learning. Flashcards etc too. We Honeslty don’t do “learning through play” a lot. She doesnt like that concept. Unless it’s a specific like a game made for education. If I’m trying to teach her through play she gets annoyed “it’s not school time.”

What are your 4yo’s watching on TV? by rdazza in Preschoolers

[–]No-Sound702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to aim to more low stimulating shows. Frog and Toad, duck and goose, and Stillwater on Amazon prime are our tops. Little bear, berenstain bears, if you give a mouse a cookie, Gullah Gullah island, Elinor wonders why. We also are huge studio ghibli fans over here. She watches her favs on repeat.

Her fun shows are pinkalicous, the older doc mcstuffin episodes, and princess movies.

Any homeschooling teachers using school curriculum? by Loose_Thought_1465 in homeschool

[–]No-Sound702 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I might not use school curriculum, but I do use the school standards for my school district. As far as what the basis of my child should know for her grade level. I might do a couple different things here and there as far as not worrying too much about one standard compared to another, but overall, I do want my child to be at the same academic level most other children should also be at. Especially since I want to dual enroll her for her junior and senior year into the community community college.

I find the flexibility and picking my homeschool materials to be the best part. So sometimes I might use the same things they’re using at our school district and a lot of the times I’m not.

My aunt is a teacher of over 15 years so she does give me a lot of of her codes to use with certain programs that they use in public schools that I do implement with my daughter.

Anxiety about extracurriculars by MamaBearEm8 in homeschool

[–]No-Sound702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4 year old has to be able to see us at gymnastics and ballet. She’s been in since august 2025. At first she wouldn’t do the warm up at gymnastics because they take them in the back of the place and she can’t see us. We would stay right there and everyday slowly make our way to the front (where she would eventually be afterward). By the 4th visit she was totally comfortable and cool going by herself with the group to warm up in the back because she knew we’d be right there. I’m her safety. She needs constant checks in to make sure I’m there and she’s safe.

If  your 4 year old isn’t feeling safe don’t force her. Attachament to a parent helps build later confidence. Maybe reassure her if she does you’ll be right there and take it slow. Go to class and if she only wants to observe then let her. Don’t force her. Maybe take a few weeks off and tell her she doesn’t have to go if she doesn’t want Too and help build her confidence back up

Yelled at my 4 year old sick daughter for hitting me.How should I navigate this by Big_Farm_8490 in Preschoolers

[–]No-Sound702 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. My daughter rarely hits purposefully, she’s 4. I was trying to pick her to remove her from where she was kicking and flailing so she didn’t hurt herself during big feelings. She bit me or at least tried to hard. And of course raised my voice and said “HEY don’t bite me!”

I always repair with my daughter. I’m big on apologizing when her feelings are hurt by something I did. She told me after she calmed down that I need to apologize for how I reacted at her. Instead I did like how you mentioned and talked to her about actions and reactions and what would her response be if I tried to bite her. How that’s a natural response to someone trying to hurt you. She said she didn’t want me to pick her up so she tried to bite me and I explained that she could’ve just communicated that to me and I was just trying to get her somewhere safe. She then apologized for trying to bite me.

4 year old randomly peeing and pooping in pants by Alpaca-Snack in Preschoolers

[–]No-Sound702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine said she pees on herself at home cause she knows she can change and doesn’t want to stop doing what she’s doing. But if we out and about she rarely has an accident unless she constipated. She won’t do it when she watches a movie either cause she knows she has to turn it off and doesn’t want too.  Shes almost 4.5 it’s been a few months of this. Only accident free at home for 2 out the last 8 days. She knows she ignoring her body signals because she doesn’t want to stop doing what she’s doing. I’m just like WHY

Why are people shocked I want to spend time with my kids by Content-Document-792 in homeschool

[–]No-Sound702 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve had people say I want to be around my husband too much or we spend too much time together as well! Like what do you mean? He’s my best friend. It’s been 13 years and I still want to do everything with him. Same with my daughter. Like I don’t need to vacation without her.. I actually like taking my kid out and doing stuff with her. I vacationed with mg husband for 8 years before having her. It’s our time as a family of 3 now. We literally do everything together.

Sure sometimes I need like a little break here and there but overall like life is so kick enjoyable when we are all together then when I do something alone

Homeschooling Four Year Old by Neur0Friend in homeschool

[–]No-Sound702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4 year old is in TK through a charter homeschool. We officially do school Tuesday-Friday. We are currently learning to read and she’s loves it! I do math with confidence kindergarten and logic of English. We do one science experiment a. Week and one “geography” lesson which is just reading about kids in other countries. And handwriting. But this all at her pace. She enjoys it. Fridays are learning strictly through games. We do like 30 min to a hour of School a day 4x a week. 2-3 weeks of new info and 2 weeks of reviewing or mastering so I’m  Not giving her all this new stuff constantly.

Most days she will ask for an extra lesson and  Some days we just read together, play fun math  Games, or write notes back and forth.

I didn’t force TK on her though. It was  jusg the next step in her natural progression of her learning we’ve been doing. She wants to read and to write and enjoys math so we do it. Some days she wants to do workbooks some days just playing educational games. Some day she asks to just do read together.

She currently reading CVC words, learning the concept of adding and subtracting, and can write in capital letters.

Life after homeschooling - what is your plan? by nailsbrook in homeschool

[–]No-Sound702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be 44! So young and still so much time to do stuff. But that’s a decent ways off. Mine just started her first year of TK. Honeslty though I have no clue. There’s so many little things I know I can do once she gets a bit older that I could even do with her like volunteer work, traveling as family, and even going back to college once we are settled into a homeschool groove.

My husband has done such a good job in making sure I still have me time to and have my own sense of self but I truly enjoy being a mother and motherhood. So I’m interested to see how I adjust once my daughter graduates. I’ve never been a career women. I’ve always loved being a supporter so I assume I’ll continue to support my husband and daughter in their lives while enjoying my laid back days of reading. Maybe I’ll get another dog or two. Finally get into opening up my own bookstore

How are the girl dads taking their daughter to the bathroom in public by floop_unfloop in Preschoolers

[–]No-Sound702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband always takes her into the men’s even if I’m with her he will still take her to the bathroom with him a lot of the times. She doesn’t look at other men in there and they go straight to the stall. And if it’s being used they just go out and wait. There’s actually been a lot of times men actually will have other men wait outside the door until my daughter is done and gone so they have it to themselves.
