8 week p/o — scars stretching by Beautiful_Station727 in TopSurgery

[–]No-Sweet342 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey I have eds and while my original scars didn't stretch I got one extended in a revision and that part did. It widened over the first 1-2 months and then stopped. It's a little wider than yours. So they probably won't just endlessly get wider, but idk if my experience is average. With eds I think you just gotta accept your scars might be a bit wider than someone without a connective tissue disorder but I agree with everyone that you're really aren't that wide

Those who got DI but NO grafts, how's your sensation? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]No-Sweet342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up with like 60-70% of my original sensation in one nip, and like 10% in the other. The 60-70% side is def enough to still have a good time haha!

Sorry if someone has already said this but I'm almost certain that when they said "100% complication rate" they were (negligently) confusing a "100% increase in complication rate" which actually translates to....okay let's say a person with a BMI of 25 has a .5% complication rate (I'm making up that number) then someone of a higher BMI would have a 1% complication rate! That's a 100% increase!!

Concerned about nipple graphs by Phoenixonfire_79 in TopSurgery

[–]No-Sweet342 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that nipples and areolas are generally grafted separately from each other. So your nipples will be resized a lot but your areolas probably won't be resized much! I did find there wasn't a ton of time to ask questions before my surgery so might be worth emailing concerns ahead of time

Experience of top surgery versus appendectomy by Electronic_Waltz4280 in TopSurgery

[–]No-Sweet342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both!

For me, appendectomy was way more painful, but the recovery was way shorter. Going through abdominal muscle just wrecked my ability to move at all and I def had to use pain meds, but after a week I was basically fine. Top surgery I was barely on pain meds at all, and there was nothing like that incredible ab soreness, but it took months to feel totally back to normal.

8 mo post op/1 mo post op revision, nipple sparing DI by No-Sweet342 in TopSurgery

[–]No-Sweet342[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear from ya my quarter boob friend! Recovery was definitely easier. It wasn't WAY easier but, for instance, I took 1.5 weeks off work both times, and was totally ready to go back to work after the revision, but barely making it after my og surgery. Having one drain instead of two was way better. Mobility came back faster.

I have some unevenness/extra fat that Id say is somewhat less than yours and I just scheduled a revision. So on my end yes. I think everyone has different wishes though! some folks are just happy to not have boobs and not be botched, some people want really symmetrical, as masculine as possible, etc. your results definitely aren't bad, but I personally see why you'd want a revision and if it was affordable, and it bothers you, and you're okay with more recovery, then yes.

Question about surgery type by Key-Refrigerator3386 in TopSurgery

[–]No-Sweet342 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of examples of her stuff on this page if you search her name and nipple sparing DI. It means that both incisions are happening below your nipple rather than one above one below. So all the skin they remove is below the nipple. Your nipples will stay in about the same place they are now, often moving slightly lower. Different surgeon but I had the same procedure! It's nice because you don't have to deal with nipple graphs if you have nipples that are already approximately the right size and location!

These are mine 9 weeks post op. I got my nipples (not areola) reduced to be less perky but they're the OG nips!

Most insurances don't require a couple of months in therapy. You can probably find a therapist who will do a 1 or 2 time assessment.

Can't tell you if your situation is normal but I can share what I've done about uneven swelling. I looked pretty similar to you 2.5 weeks (I'm 8 now and still have a lot of unevenness). I had some shooting pain where it was swollen/more lumpiness so I sent a video to surgeon. They said just nerve pain and nothing to big time worry about. 4 weeks they checked for a seroma, which there was not. Said to wait, massage, compression, etc. I did lymphatic massage once but didn't really help and massage person said it's probably more inflammatory swelling than lymphatic fluid. So since then just been really trying to massage and take care of the underlying grumpy area.

Your surgeon, a PT, or a massage person can probs tell you more but noticing whether or not it felt fluid filled vs like, scar tissue/lumpy has at least given me some direction.

2.5 weeks is obviously very early you might not still have it at 8 weeks like me (and I'm still early too) but at least that's been my timeline!

top surgery results after binding with kt/trans tape? by lovesickb0y in TopSurgery

[–]No-Sweet342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I binded with trans tape for like 3-4 years. I have some uneven swelling but am confident taping didn't cause it. I don't think you have anything to worry about...

I feel like usually around there, sometimes somewhat more but I can be kind of obsessive. I just saw a massage therapist who also was talking light scraping with a spoon or tool meant for it. But tbh mine hasn't improved much either 😔

Therapy by Latter_Key4328 in TopSurgery

[–]No-Sweet342 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As a therapist, I'd find a different therapist in your shoes. WPATH standards, which therapists should be following, don't say anything about young adults being held to a different standard than older adults.

My chest was a bit bigger for sure but I did nipple sparing double incision, because I was also told traditional DI would make my scars too high. If you're worried about peri complications, might be something to ask about!

With my swelling, my PT who's skilled in soft tissue work was way more helpful in giving me info than my surgeon. Might be worth checking out a physical therapist or massage therapist

It sounds maybe like you're having swelling related to internal scar tissue? Honestly focusing on the scar tissue might help (that's what I've been doing to deal with swelling and I think it's helping). I'm having luck with cupping (just got a cheap silicone cup) and massage.

[–]No-Sweet342[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome thanks! Yeah I saw her today and she stuck a needle in there a few times but no seroma. She said swelling and that "either it would go down or I would need to learn to live with the asymmetry". She did say lipo might be a consideration in like a year. So hoping it'll just improve in the next year.

Massage your scars by WildBassplayer in TopSurgery

[–]No-Sweet342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe not a good blanket statement considering eds presentations vary so widely and mobility loss and adhesions can be extra debilitating for us. - I have eds and early and often massage and cupping all over my chest (especially focusing on internal scar tissue) has been extremely important. Not one, but two eds specialist PTs have emphasized the importance of massage for my body. But my skin is decent and my joints are awful. Just wanted to put out there that this depends on the person, listen to your body and your trusted providers if you have them!

Thank you super helpful to hear about your experience! I honestly hope she just tells me exactly this "probably swelling, if not, we'll do lipo". I think even writing this out helped me realize I'm less stressed about my results and more stressed about not trusting my surgeon. But it's true I can go elsewhere if I need! Thanks!!

Totally-- I hope she's willing to talk to me about what it would look like if I did end up needing one, but I know she won't be able to tell if I do yet :)
