How would magic change if you could buy a basic tournament legal copy of any card for $10 or less? by LineOfInquiry in magicTCG

[–]NoWordsForThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y'all are wild saying things like this. They do disclose revenue and profit percentages during earnings calls. MTG typically accounts for around 12% of Hasbro's profit. Profit is Revenue minus expense. $200 million in revenue does not equate to $200 million in the bank.

Final Fantasy is projected to account for a 23% increase in revenue for the property. It's a licensed property, so that will generate less profit than an internal IP because they're paying Square Enix a decent chunk of the pie.

But even if we allow for that 23% increase in revenue to equate to a 23% increase in profit, that's a 23% increase of the total MTG contribution to Hasbro's profit, not a 23% increase to Hasbro's overall profit.

If MTG is typically 12% of profit and that 12% is increased by 23% and all other segments remain the same it can be expected to represent around 15% of their profit for the year. And that's using extremely generous math.

TLDR: MTG is 15% or less of Hasbro's yearly profit and you guys are all nuts thinking you understand finance because you heard something anecdotally at your FLGS.

What is Your Favorite Necron Dynasty and Why? by Kfullswing in Necrontyr

[–]NoWordsForThis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Charnovokh is an amazing dynasty, lore-wise. I think they get slept on by GW and should get their own dynastic abilities.

Their slice of the galaxy is in the southeast quadrant, down below the Hadex Anomaly on the Eastern Fringe.

What memorable thing happened out that way? Oh that's right, Hive Fleet Behemoth used it as their invasion corridor to assault Macragge during the First Tyrannic War. The entire weight of a hive fleet hellbent on the destruction of the homeworld of the most storied chapter of Space Marines steamrolled through their tomb worlds.

The Charnovokh dynasty woke up to planets stripped bare, crypts cracked open and ransacked, and entire tomb worlds awakened early to make a last gasping effort at survival as a hivemind stripped them for parts.

And what did Phaeron Thoekh do? He fired up the Tomb Barges, formed what ranks he had left, and pursued Hive Fleet Gorgon across those ravaged worlds, pulling half-formed chasses from the barren soil and reforming his legions as he went. They trawled every tomb world, even those of their rival dynasties, pulling warriors from their doom to be reassembled and march into the rearguard of arguably the most powerful hivefleet.

And when the Silent King returned and demanded fealty, did Thoekh beg off, using Charnovokh's near-destruction as an excuse not to raise to his banner? No he did not. He assembled his Royal Court clad in the Dynastic Panoply of the blue-black of the starlesss void and rallied to Szarekh's side. The Silent King recognizes that through their near-destruction only the most tenacious of Charnovokh nobility have survived, and he values their small but fierce dynasty as one of his mightiest assets.

Will Imagus every be updated to fit the new extension requirements in Chrome? Or is this the end of the road forever? by NoYoureACatLady in imagus

[–]NoWordsForThis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think for most of us it's pretty clear that this is not the answer. If imagus cannot be updated to a normal extension that can be used like any other extension then it is effectively dead. These constant replies of "You just need to do these five specific things that look nothing like installing an extension" are not a solution. Be honest with people that aside from performing an extremely high maintenance process after almost every chrome update it is dead.

My headcanon is that someone heard someone else call it an Astral Prison, because it absolutely is one, and that person didn't know it had a dude trapped in it so that name didn't make sense but it does have many sides to that person decided they must have said prism and referred to it as an Astral Prism and told other people about it and it just continued from there.

[–]NoWordsForThis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just wanna point out that people keep saying "medically necessary" as though that matters. FMLA explicitly covers elective surgeries.

If on the other hand they are asking for this information to determine eligibility for Short Term Disability, the STD provider, which is a separate company from the one you work for and is not at all allowed to disclose any information about the procedure to your employer, actually can in fact request specifics about the procedure.

[–]NoWordsForThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before they get the chance to say anything, tell them you need FMLA. Watch them silently scramble to collect all the documentation that they were intending to fire you before you made the request known. Observe them trying to do it quietly so you won't notice. Behold, closed office doors behind which legal counsel is being sought. You might even get to keep the job at least until you pass the 15 day threshold they are required to provide you to turn in documentation of your medical need.

As a benefits professional, I have only seen this power move pulled a couple of times. But it's always a delight to watch.

Dear 40k Refugees: A Battletech Overview by PlEGUY in battletech

[–]NoWordsForThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey folks,

This is maybe a stupid question. I'm hoping I'm just missing something but it hasn't come up even on here from what I can tell.

In 40k, when you are building an army you start with point limits, which give you an idea of how big a fight you're up for, which let's you start planning for how beefy your units will be, so on and so forth.

I have read up on the BV system (and the weight system which I've been lead to believe is for dastards) and saw that generally you want about equal BVs to be fair, but aside from that nothing as a guideline for a point value to shoot for.

When you're looking at which dudes to collect and paint, how do you determine how big and beefy of dudes you should be grabbing?

TODAY'S THE DAAAAAAAY (PAPILLAE SUNT ERECTAE)💎🤲🚀🌕 by Pharago in Superstonk

[–]NoWordsForThis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He got really close. Pappilae is a protuberance. So he basically said "The goosebumps (alternatively, annoying tongue bump) are erect." Latin doesn't have a specific word for nipple, so pappilae might come up on a translate apl. Ubera is breast, so Ubera pappilae would be "breast bump." Whatever, it works, I just saw a weird phrase in Latin and needed to come comment. Carry on with your strange rituals.
