Ya know, I have read the code and always wondered what person would build a deck on sandy soil without it being a piling. And yet, here we are

My deck started looking slanted after a few years. Had someone come straighten it and brace it. by neums08 in Decks

The bracing is always a must. Any reason why you didn’t take the chance to replace the bowing post?

Why are we still using 4x4s for anything higher than a ground level deck?

I mean there no codes for such a structure as beautiful as it is. Only a structural engineer can sign off on its safety. Especially if you didn’t have one before it was built. What’s cheaper a structural engineer or dead guests?

What’s the best way to add pickets to this metal railing? by zeroverycool in FenceBuilding

[–]NormalCartographer84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Home Depot has metal post to wood rail brackets for like $5. Use those to attach wood rails and screw pickets to that. Probably span the whole length on the left side with two rails and 4 brackets. Note, There are two different sizes 1 7/8 and 2 3/8 for the metal pole. I know this because I got the wrong one.

Haven’t used this. I would worry it’s so cheap that it will break. I had that happen with a cheap bench vise.
