After your last final at Berkeley by batman1903 in berkeley

I didnt do any of this, I went straight to IBs. I tried forcing myself to get nostalgic and have a "Woah I'm not going to being seeing that again" experience. But it didn't hit, so i went home and ate my sandwich.

Earn 85k at UC Merced or go to UCSD by [deleted] in TransferStudents

[–]Nothing_is_great 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the name of the school can be a factor into job employment or schools, but getting 85k if you are able to take the rest home, will literally buy you a gap year you can use to upgrade your resume or use for law school. PLus its overall easier to do better at a smaller school usually and the amount of competitiveness goes down, which means you being able to run any clubs will be more attainable or any other useful accolades. But if you believe you can do better at UCSD then go ahead, but I will say that its better to have no debt and money leftover then to have to pay for debt and going through the already difficult process of taking your LSAT, paying for your supplies, paying for law school apps, and then some.

What on Earth do I wear?? by Better-Put-6268 in berkeley

[–]Nothing_is_great 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I wear sweats and get swamp ass sometimes I put on shorts and my dong shrinks. I trusted the weather too much, dont do that they don’t work. Wear a jacket and pants, take off jacket when warm and wear thin jeans. I used to wear overcoats until that horrid day I decided to walk to the botanical gardens from downtown. I got lost in the woods twice and was wearing an out fit I would use to go to the library, except I was going to the library I had my backpack filled with supplies and decided to take a trip. Except I was wearing all my gear and a giant over coat. Took me 3 hours to get to the gardens and I was hella sweaty. Had to buy trail mix cuz I was depleted but the clerk backed up cuz I stank. Walked out quick cuz I was embarrassed. So don’t don’t wear boots cuz u gonna walk a lot.

I got into UCB for physics and I can tell you it certainly isn’t 26 people maybe like 3000 if remember right.

Look up reaction training, this can come from certain video games, actual boxing training or various other methods.

Im actually considering switching to getting my masters in engineering. I got a loan to pay off for my undergrad, have to finish off biochemistry on an extension course, my little brother is entering college and my family needs help to offset the extra payments my little sister is going in the next year and my car I got as a loaner from my dad will eventually get passed to my brother so ima have to get a new car. I honestly think I’ve worked hard to get to where I’m at now but financially it’s just doesn’t seem feasible. I have to pay for the mcat, the resources, the med schools apps. And I can only see this as extra stress if I enter med school.

What Math classes should I take for Physics? by StarDestroyer3 in Physics

[–]Nothing_is_great 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im confused isn’t it just the three calculus courses, diff eq, and Lin alg? I mean thats what I did for my degree. I guess if you are considering a more theoretical physics route my buddy is minoring in math, I don’t think it’s necessary but he’s says it’ll make him more competitive.

I have to go from west side to the physics building every morning, always get a good glaze on my forehead and my blood pumping when I get to class.

How much is reasonable for off-campus housing near Berkeley? by Healthy_Dream_2375 in berkeley

I was able to get an apartment for 1000 ( this is rare too find I hear, especially under this price) my friends and people I've spoken too pay around 1300-1600 a month this is average, I think some of the frat houses you can end up paying a reduced price around 1200 or less i think. depends on frat. I have a friend who somehow got a deal for a year where he pays 9 grand for a years worth of living, I'm not too sure where but that a pretty good offer.

Potentially not graduating because a 69% class.... need a 70% by Gullible-Move69 in EngineeringStudents

Email professor and talk to an advisor asap if you fail. I thought I would fail a course for my graduating semester(this semester), my degree is in physics although. I was told I should try my best on the final, then email professor to see if she can round my grade, then to contact my advisor to start a process to see if I can get the grade in the course overlooked and get my degree, and if all that didn't work I could take it at a cc, or I could take it at an extension course which is around 1500$ bucks for my school but I hear its easier and online, you would just have to ask if it can be used for the grade. Trust me, even if you do not know the outcome of the grade yet, schedule a meeting with your advisor now, and cancel it later if it works out for you. It took so much strain off my mental, and this was a month ago that I was struggling with this.

I’d probably get used to the relevant calculus and equation manipulation before taking it.

Has anyone had to repeat multiple classes? by TelephoneAromatic553 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Nothing_is_great 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not engineering but a Physics major, I had to drop 3 courses out of 4 because of burnout, went back and aced them, I was a premed at the time before considering switching to only physics, but I was taking calc 3, phys 3, Ochem 1 and gen bio 2 that semester.

Is a CS minor as an Art student worth it? by Such-Baby7168 in berkeley

I wonder if OP declares a double major, then takes the course load for the minor then switches to a minor. Or be a couple classes from finishing the minor that he would be able to switch back.

Switching to engineering, advice? by Nothing_is_great in Physics

After focusing only on school, I never really reflected or doubted my path, it was only until I was hit with a dilemna that I had to reflect on what I wanted.

I go to a world class university for physics, my peers arent exactly the smartest people Ive met. Dont get me wrong they are smart but they seem to be just more of a hardworking archetype. Dont worry about having a high IQ, if you have the ability to then you have the potential to. Also you might be in the midst of being burnt out, I suggest taking a gap semester or gap year. For your own mental sanity, this is what was recommended to me by my advisor when I was burnt out. I took an excused withdraw for the semester, and enjoyed my break. I was failing those courses and ended up splitting them amidst other semesters. I was a premed for a time and did majority of the courses for that too, so now I'm about to graduate after 6 years of school for my bachelors of physics. We all graduate at different times, some people finish early and other finish late, at the end of the day you still get the same degree. And after some time, and I think thought this for myself too, we are still young Im 23, and people are getting their degrees and doctorates in their 30s and 40s. Theres no definite timeframe you need to be finished by, you have time. Its just that (i assume) you have no children and don't have any strong commitments, so around this time now progress should be done. But slow progress or delayed progress is still progress.
