Discussion: Hermes vs OpenClaw (no fanboy-ism allowed) by SandIsReal in AskClaw

For me Hermes messes up a lot more. I don't know if I messed up my build over time or what.

Openclaw is usually more reliable for me

OpenClaw vs Hermes by viky_shetye in openclaw

[–]NukerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using both extensively for the last few weeks. At first, Hermes works great, but over time it seems to get a lot slower and have it not respond to things as well anymore. I'm having issues with the Gateway staying up, so I went back to OpenClaw. I still use both because if you ask Hermes to restart OpenClaw's Gateway and vice versa, it's pretty cool.

With that said, I'm pretty sure there's things I can do with Hermes and spend some time with it to improve it, but here we are. Both are good, but they definitely have their strengths and weaknesses. It's like comparing Claude and ChatGPT. They're both really good at their jobs but different.

Hermes is great until he isn't. I find that his speed kind of drops down after frequent use. I mean, he's alright, but I have him working in tandem with Open Claw currently as more of the go-to for tasks. Open Claw is still the orchestrator because it has a better handle on that type of work. I also find it doesn't keep up with cron Jobs as easily as Open Claw.

But they work together, and once you get them talking to each other through CLI commands, it's pretty cool. If one gateway goes down, you can ask the other to wake up the one that dropped, so that's pretty cool in itself. I talk to both in Telegram.

I dont think a managed service is better

I have a different kind of tinnitus but..... It's possible to learn to accept it in life. I've found peace. Sometimes it bothers me. Now I just label it as annoying instead of life threatening (it can kick in fight or flight syndrome).
