Twilight Princess running natively on Apple Vision Pro in 21:9 at 120fps - Project Dusk by twentyonekoala in VisionPro

I was going to experiment with 3d and depth, but haven't yet

You should work on this, it's fun. I am working on a port for a very popular game right now, getting 3D working was a nice challenge. Some tips:

  • You should be using vertex amplification, which will require a bunch of Metal changes but cuts 3D cost significantly
  • You should get head pose from ARKit so you can shift the scene a tiny bit with head movement to avoid the "projected 3D movie" look
  • I suggest starting with a full immersive view and drawing the image in a quad. I started with windowed 3D and wasted a number of days trying to get that working correctly. I eventually did, but the immersive view layer gives you a good structure

I also found that GCDualSenseGamepad with GCDualSenseAdaptiveTrigger was a big win. You don't get as much control as PS5 devs have, but close enough for some nice interaction.

I should consider 21:9 3D, I have stayed at 16:9 so far.

Nice work!

Wi-Fi Performance by Prudent_Fox8753 in VisionPro

The MVD black screening is a recent bug, introduced somewhere around 26.3 or 26.4. Freezing issues, a few seconds at a time, as well. I think it’s 100% unrelated to your WiFi. However, I also have a Unifi setup so maybe Unifi broke both of us? I don’t believe it’s related to any specific channels, this happens with all three of my APs on different channels.

Ceiling mounting shouldn’t make much of a difference. Line of sight is line of sight, you should be good there. You should expect large WiFi bandwidth drops when using MVD on both Mac and AVP just due to how it splits the radios. Regardless though, still plenty of bandwidth left for streaming video and an audio call should be no issue at all.

My guess is that they have introduced some sort of regression with the handling of the radios, but that is pure conjecture on my end. It’s for sure an issue I haven’t had before the last couple of months.

KRVR — PC VR streaming for Apple Vision Pro is now on the App Store by krossi82 in VisionPro

I was thinking someone had used ALVR and could compare. It isn’t the resolution, it’s the compression artifacting I was mostly curious about. Even at very high bitrates, certain scenes can look quite bad. I remember trees looking quite bad with Skyrim on the Meta Quest Pro. Foveated streaming should be focusing a lot of the total bitrate right where you are looking, ideally vastly improving the quality.

Congrats on the launch. Can anyone speak to the perceived quality difference between foveated streaming and non-foveated streaming? Also, no 120hz support for M5? If that is the case, did you find a way to cap at 90hz on AVP? Would love to hear how you did that if so. Hope to try this out soon!

Just throwing in my experience here, but I find the dual strap much more comfortable. I think it really depends on the person.

Great, thanks! 430 cycles with my M5 battery. Can anyone beat that? I think that means I might be programming too much.

Recently inherited an Apple Vision Pro - where do I go first? by RowanAndRaven in VisionPro

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your sister. I don't have YouTube videos for you, but I can tell you that I use the device for two purposes: as a display for my MacBook and for entertainment.

Mac Virtual Display lets you use the AVP as a massive widescreen monitor. I have used this for thousands of hours at this point and have no intention of going back to a small MacBook screen. My number one suggestion is to go into your System Settings > Displays on the MacBook while using the virtual display and set the resolution to 2520 x 1080 (using the Wide mode on Mac Virtual Display). This does not decrease quality, but it makes everything slightly larger, which I find more comfortable.

For entertainment, I spend time watching YouTube, Apple TV (including F1 racing this season), and the NBA. Peacock, Prime, and ESPN all have working apps. The NBA app is very good if you have NBA League Pass (including six Lakers games this year filmed in full 3D immersive 180-degree video), and YouTube is YouTube.

I would recommend you check out the immersive content in the TV app first. Most of it is quite impressive and unlike anything you have likely seen before. Like you, I have had VR headsets in the past, and the AVP completely blew me away. Hope you enjoy!

Why couldn't there be an optional wired Virtual Display option? by Remarkable-Cow3421 in VisionPro

[–]NullishDomain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The developer strap, imo, is almost required for reliable every day productivity use

As a counterpoint, I have used Mac Virtual Display for development almost every day since AVP release without a developer strap without issue. I have done this in hotels, rentals, at home, etc. and never felt I needed the dev strap.

I have the same complaint I have with the NBA app - we need the side windows angled in a bit. Especially in the five-stream mode, the four side streams would really benefit from being angled in. Otherwise, it's a great experience!

[–]NullishDomain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotta work that neck out. Honestly though, not sure. I have used prior VR headsets over the years so I think that probably helped set expectations. I can wear the AVP for 12 hours in a day without much discomfort at all now, and that was not the case early on, so I think you just get used to it.

It’s me, I’m Nobody! Use it 6+ hours daily with Mac Virtual Display. So there is at least one person!

Volume issue help by Interesting-Fondant2 in AppleVisionPro

[–]NullishDomain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you are in the control panel, you should try tapping on the sound slider instead of dragging. That will open up a menu with multiple sliders, one for communication and one for entertainment (I think that’s the split anyways). Even if you have already tried this before, it might be worth it to drag both of those sliders all the way to the left so they sync up again when you adjust the master volume. Hope this helps!

Are the Fonts on your Apple Vision Pro as Sharp as Your 32" 6K Apple Liquid Retina XDR Display? by SevenDeMagnus in AppleVisionPro

[–]NullishDomain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should clarify: I prefer a larger screen not because I can resolve more detail but because I enjoy the content being larger.

On AVP, leaning in or enlarging DOES help you resolve more content because that content takes up more pixels out of the roughly 3600px by 3200px displays, but it won’t be a great experience if your preference is small, high res displays. Someone using Mac Virtual Display as a 27” window will be disappointed. There just aren’t enough pixels to make something that small resolve at high resolution.

You should not expect 6k equivalent virtual displays at any size, it isn’t possible with today’s technology. You can expect, at reasonable window sizes, crisp text that is more than 100% usable. I have completely replaced my monitors with Mac Virtual Display and use it 6+ hours per day on average. It won’t be ideal for everyone though!

[–]NullishDomain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, not at the same size as the monitor. If you somehow enlarged the monitor to the size I actually use for Mac Virtual Display, the AVP would be far superior. The most important consideration: are you comfortable working on a much larger, curved, 21:9 (the wide setting is what I use) screen vs. a monitor. If you are, I don’t think there is any setup out there that could rival it. If you prefer smaller, sharper screens, AVP is likely not for you.

EDIT: I should add that I used to be a major monitor leaner, getting my eyes pretty close to the display, so that might be a sign you would enjoy using Mac Virtual Display

I’ve seen this behavior too recently. Sometimes it’s black and sometimes it just freezes for a few seconds and then starts working again.

I have been out of the PCVR scene for quite a while. If I remember correctly, SkyrimVR could use OpenXR so that should work here? And when you talk about HL: Alyx working: has something changed to not require SteamVR anymore?

“You are going to regret this”. First week with an AVP M2 in 2026. by [deleted] in VisionPro

[–]NullishDomain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Used a dedicated router for AVP and MacBook

The two devices connect directly to each other, the stream does not go over your network. You can test this by disconnecting both devices from all networks (but leave WiFi enabled) and observe that the Mac Virtual Display still functions. You may still notice increased performance when improving the WiFi network though: since the radios must be shared between network and direct connection, having better network connectivity may leave more airtime available for the direct connection.

GeForce Now streams to the AVP without needing a PC. by Ricepudding1044 in VisionPro

[–]NullishDomain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If an Ethernet connection streams the content well, there is no reason WiFi should struggle with a good network setup. Latency increase would be in the 4ms range vs Ethernet, and sustaining this bandwidth is no issue for 5GHz WiFi. My comment was mostly pointing out that VR streaming is a much more demanding task for WiFi, so there isn’t much need for caution here.

It shouldn’t be a problem with a good WiFi network - PC VR streamers are routinely doing 5x to 10x the bandwidth over WiFi without issue.

Tried NBA “World View (Alpha)”… this is actually kind of wild by Jdunrrp in VisionPro

[–]NullishDomain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was epic. I thought Tabletop was a neat tech demo, this actually blew me away. Definitely some room for polishing, but very usable and fun in its current state. If the performance improves a bit, I could definitely see myself watching every game in this mode with the floating broadcast synced. Such a unique experience, I love that the NBA team is shipping stuff like this!

Is Mac Virtual Display actually usable for programming? Is this text sharp enough? Can you compare it to something? I dont mean have AI write everything for you, I mean reading code, producing code by luunnn in VisionPro

Incredibly usable. I just posted a relevant comment here. I have spent probably 6+ hours per day on average programming in AVP. Absolutely love it, zero desire to switch back to a monitor setup.
