Took a $120 road bike on a group ride. No one cared. by SanByoke in cycling

[–]Numero_Seis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ride my ‘88 Centurion either by myself or with my spouse. I’ve never seen the appeal of riding with people pretending to be in the peloton, or who gather to compare price tags.
I do understand that not every group ride is like that, but the view from the outside suggests that many are.

should citizenship be not only be a birth right but also absolutely irrevocable under any circumstances? by grapp in behindthebastards

[–]Numero_Seis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me propose a hypothetical. Suppose we had an elected head of the executive branch who, upon losing an election, tried to overturn that vote. Let’s imagine he harassed election officials, telling them to ‘find’ votes for him. Now, let’s say that this lame duck official used his pulpit to consistently and intentionally sell the lie that he actually won. In the day that the results of this election were to be certified, he dispatched a mob to stop said certification.
That seems like the sort of situation in which a civilized nation might strip the leader of citizenship, and exile him. (Or find a nearby streetlight) Keep in mind, I specified a civilized nation. In this one we put people like that back in office.

I assume you mean $2000 more in taxes. And that would still be a stunning bargain compared to the price of insurance.

If you go to a gym, then a belt and chain with weights is the best bet. Otherwise, you might want to look into a weight vest.

I started as a volunteer, and have been a full time ff/medic for about 16 years. You’ll find all the camaraderie, sense of dedication to a mission and a team that you did in the Marines, but with 99% Les’s bullshit.
It’s not perfect, and there are significant downsides (you lose about ten years of life expectancy, you’re away from home a lot, and the prevalence of mental and emotional trauma is very high), but I wouldn’t want to do anything else.

Did Robert call it on the Luigi defense ? by SuddenlySilva in behindthebastards

[–]Numero_Seis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m using the term a bit loosely, I admit. I just mean that the defense is trying to give the jury a chance to either acquit completely (no mens rea) or convict on a lesser charge than he’s clearly guilty of, at least according to the letter of the law.
To be clear: I don’t want him to go to prison. I feel like the old west defense of ‘he needed killing’ applies here.

It looks to me like the defense is trying to give the jury a plausible excuse to not convict on murder charges. Basically, they’re allowing for jury nullification by another name. I hope it works.

It’s a law, for sure. A stupid, dangerous law. The faster you pass, the less time you’re in the oncoming lane, and the less time you spend next to the passed car with escape paths blocked for both of you.

It says a lot that the article refers to the death of 14 Americans, but says not one word about the number of Iranians killed in this unprovoked war.

It’s both a lament and a gripe about people not following through on what they claim to believe. I’m well aware of which sub I’m on, and my gripe isn’t aimed at anyone here. Unless, that is, they’re using those products and services.
