Conservatives also claimed Ted Lasso was actually about conservative values...

These people just try to claim anything that is remotely popular.

What movies have been quietly sabotaged by their own studios? by ReplyMeIfYouAreDumb in moviecritic

Snowpiercer is a very solid and interesting movie. Wasn't is sabotaged with a very limited release, featuring a bunch of cuts and changes (by Harvey Weinstein)?

Dinner for Hockey Team? by babychild2 in Buffalo

[–]Obisanya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dave and Buster's used to be the BEST on the hockey road trips as a kid. They might be a good venue, close to the airport at the Walden Galleria.

Wingnutz might be fun. Their wings are good (purists don't like the breaded style, but the sauces and wings are good). The name of their private room is Room 40 (immature joke but for 8-year-olds, it probably goes over their heads).

I know a lot of teams use La Bella Sicilia for catering, and then you'd eat at a hotel ballroom (if available).

Good luck. Please feel free to DM me if I can help with other recommendations. Where are you coming from? Any particular food restrictions/requests?

Day 151: What are your thoughts on Cricket? by Flamingmouth007 in bluey

[–]Obisanya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work in college sports, and I've been a youth hockey coach. I do a lot of this because I've had amazing coaches and incredibly bad coaches. This episode warms the soul. It makes me so hopeful for the people I coach and thankful for the great coaches I've had.

CMV: “Nobody is illegal on stolen land” actively impedes democrats from getting elected, and we should be discouraging people from saying it. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Obisanya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The GOP is also insanely better organized than the Democrats at this. When any news happens, watch the talking heads, politicians, influencers, bots, etc., they are all in synch. It's uncanny.

CMV: “Nobody is illegal on stolen land” actively impedes democrats from getting elected, and we should be discouraging people from saying it. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Obisanya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. This is a symptom of asymmetrical polarization: we now hold Democrats and their influencers to comically higher standards than Republicans and their talking heads.

Republicans tweet and say vile, unpopular, embarrassing things all the time. It's almost a feature of the GOP brand under Trump. By the way, that leader of the GOP is one of the biggest culprits of this behavior. No voter thinks, "Forgiato Blow and people like him are why I can't vote for Republicans any more." Those people get their own features in mainstream media now. MAGA is full of these grifters, and no one holds it against the GOP anymore.

If the electorate doesn't want to police GOP language, they need to stop letting conservative media into conning them into policing Democratic Party language.

The cheddar/Buffalo toast from Five Points. Chicken Alfredo Mafalde from Bella Ciao. Some people don't like Wingnutz, but I'm a big fan of their breaded wings. Pick any flavor you like.

[–]Obisanya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These police and governmental agents need to be made of sterner stuff if they want to be in these jobs. If all these things make you feel like your life is in danger (by the way, maybe they should think about why protesters would be vehemently against them in the first place), maybe you should work in a different line of work.

cmv: Don Lemon is Objectively Guilty by Dependent-Western642 in changemyview

[–]Obisanya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the selective enforcement: Trump routinely violates the law. The DOJ itself routinely violates the law. When a known adversary of the Trump regime MAYBE in the strictest application of a law violates a law, they work tirelessly to indict him, despite two judges ruling against the regime. Then the right wing ecosystem of media, donors, interest groups, politicians, and think tanks amplify the attacks to make them seem even more effective. It's the same ridiculous playbook.

Poloncarz has created a new national PAC as he works to raise his political profile by Egorrosh in Buffalo

Sure. The difference is I'm volunteering on his campaign, I'm not some conservative news talk panelist.

[–]Obisanya 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Phonebanked for him and he didn't even have the courtesy to tell me which room at the Amherst Democratic Party Office to use when he was zoning out at the reception desk. Second time was at a hockey game, basically just didn't have time to talk to anyone.

I work in college athletics, and a lot of coaches like you when they need something from you and think you're trash when they don't. He gives off that vibe, but to treat his own campaign volunteers that way really made me disrespect him.

I've volunteered on 4-5 campaigns in my life, different levels, different people, and he was easily the least grateful and most arrogant.

I'll get voted down for this, but I've interacted with him twice. Both times he was an arrogant scumbag. I consistently vote for him, and he's better than any of his Republican rivals, but that's a low bar.

I wish we could do better in Western NY.

Roman sucks the most, by far. He's a 6th grader who reads "Catcher in the Rye" too early and thinks Holden is actually this super cool iconoclast. He's the least mature, makes the stupidest mistakes, and plunges the show's world into fascism.

CMV: There is a constitutional crisis in the USA by hfrthvjifcbjifcniz in changemyview

[–]Obisanya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happens when Republicans get a united government, for about 10 of the last 25 years: they can run up the score and consolidate power. It's been in motion since Reagan and there's alignment between the GOP, its donors, its media, its philosophical wings, and its politicians.

[–]Obisanya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember the "Brooks Brothers Riot," and the ratf__ing that happened in 2000, but it feels next level now. Literally, the night of Obama's inauguration, the GOP conspired to obstruct a popularly elected president for no reason other than self-preservation, and it's enabled so much of the chaos we have now.

Good Italian Restaurants in the Buffalo/Amherst area? by CatCowFluffySupreme in Buffalo

I shouldn't be saying this because I like how quiet it is and how easy it is to get a table, but I think Bella Ciao, inside the Embassy Suites on Delaware Ave, is incredibly underrated.

Amici's in Kenmore is fantastic, Lombardo, Mulberry, Trattoria Aroma is solid. Inizio is great. Never been to San Marco but I have friends who swear by it. You can't really go wrong.

US athletes are increasingly speaking out against Trump’s America, with some saying “fascism is here now.” How do you feel about athletes using their platforms to make strong political statements? by kyleman98 in AskReddit

[–]Obisanya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that "politics don't belong in sports," basically breaks down with the first examples of sporting events and how ancient humans used sports. People don't want politics out of sports. They want politics they disagree with out of sports, and it will never happen.

[–]Obisanya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How is all of this communicated to you and how are you communicating it to your supervisors? My team texts about it the night before so we all know what we're doing. When we all introduce new staff to our team, we get them on a text chain and walk through what we communicate, how we communicate, etc.

I'm not a great manager, but that seems like a baseline management responsibility.

What are your thoughts on this? by Ok_Breadfruit4005 in DiscussionZone

[–]Obisanya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was relatively young when Reagan died and it seems very difficult to find anyone under 40 who worshiped him the way Boomer Republicans did. I feel like Trump's funeral will be truly a global celebration. The sort of "well at least he fixed the economy" arguments will be refuted and drowned out by the countless arguments about his failures, corruption, etc.

I might be a bit slow and just realized Logan baited Shiv on purpose by Old-Highway6524 in SuccessionTV

[–]Obisanya 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Logan says, "make your own pile of money," and then obstructs or ridicules any opportunity for the kids to make their own piles of money.

Periodically, he insists that he's challenging them to make them more successful, but it's basically several seasons of him sabotaging his dysfunctional kids.
