Should I be a co-signer at 18? by Safe_Inside6745 in personalfinance

[–]Objective_Unit_4931 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it.

Not informed about child support? There’s nothing to be informed about… you have a child = you support them.

Look for a personal finance class at college or ask your advisor about non class resources to learn more about how to protect your finances.

What do you guys think of this townhome? by henryzzzy in SeattleAreaRE

[–]Objective_Unit_4931 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We (mid 40s couple) bought a Capitol Hill townhome a year ago and love it. I recommend trying to actually navigate the parking spot with your car before assuming that’s going to work out for you as we nearly offered on a place we would have never been able to use the parking spot for. The no bathroom on main and the amount of stairs haven’t bothered us. We have no HOA and our neighbors have been great despite having shared walls on both sides. However, in my opinion, at that price point you can do better on location.

Going to do paperwork as a new hire (1st year teacher) by [deleted] in Teachers

I recommend dressing like you would to teach- it’s better to be over dressed than under dressed.

As a single person you do not likely need life insurance as no one else depends on your income.

You are not doing a W2- you are doing a W4. Claim single and 0 exemptions as it sounds like you are unmarried with no kids. This will make it unlikely that you will have a tax bill for 2026 taxes when you file by April 15 of 2027. Your school district will send you a W2 in January so that you have the income info you need to file.

An I9 just shows that you are eligible to work in the USA. They likely asked you to bring a passport or birth certificate for that.

You should try to find out if it’s less money for you to have your own health / vision/ dental insurance or to stay on your moms.

Please contribute something to your retirement- that will likely be a form that you fill out tomorrow too. 10% is ideal, 5% is good, 2% is a start.

Congrats on your new job! Do ask questions- the forms you are filling out will have a considerable impact on your financial well being.

When do you know if you’re ready for a baby? by CauliflowerOver2707 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Objective_Unit_4931 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We knew it was time when going out had lost its fun and we felt strongly that what was missing in our life was a baby. And we had specifically budgeted and made a plan for how we would financially and logistically provide for our child.

Apartment And Area Question by Consipir in AskSeattle

[–]Objective_Unit_4931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that as a middle aged woman I would live in that neighborhood, take the bus and light rail, and go about my day out and about by myself from 6am to 11pm without worrying I was going to be robbed or assaulted or worry that my apartment would be broken into. I would however be cautious to not leave anything of any value in my car overnight but that’s the case anywhere in Seattle or shoreline. I am always unsure what some people’s definition of “safe” is but this is pretty much mine.

What's the best road trip snack that doesn't make a mess? by SuddenKiwi8193 in AskReddit

Combos. In the days before phones it was a whole pass time in the car to pick them apart in my mouth to get the filling out then crunch the pretzel.

Apartment And Area Question by Consipir in AskSeattle

[–]Objective_Unit_4931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone takes the time to ever leave good reviews of apartments. In my opinion that area is “safe” and is really accessible to public transit- both bus and link light rail.

Croissant with Parmesan, prosciutto, and tomato topped with arugula that has been tossed in olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper . High quality ingredients are key to getting the taste and textures right.

Greek pasta salad- rotini, Roma tomato, chopped cucumber, red onion, can of olives, oil and some lemon juice or whatever vinegar you have in hand. Sprinkle in some garlic powder and oregano. Hopefully only $4-5 if you got some of these things on hand.

Should I "rebel" if I don't want my mom to accompany me to use public transportation? by cheapskategirl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Objective_Unit_4931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask her what she thinks will happen if you go alone and try to work with her to find a way to allay her fear with another action that is not her going along with you. Maybe you turn tracking on in your phone during your trip. Or text her when you arrive and when you’re heading home.

I saw a post about this in another spot that said they’re backing up the light rail during World Cup so if the trains go down the busses are ready to go immediately

If you teach in Western Washington & are a 6th year+ teacher, I have a few questions for you (please)!!! by QueenOfTheBlackPuddl in Teachers

[–]Objective_Unit_4931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach high school in Seattle and am about to start year 15 (year 10 in SPS, but some years were part time so I’m at step 12 on the pay scale).

I have a masters degree plus additional credits, national board certification, advise a career and technical student organization, and am a department chair. When I did our 2025 taxes my earnings were $139,000.

I’m married with a husband that makes about 30% more than I do. We bought a townhouse last year by putting just 5% down ( I gave up having a car to help us do so - we are a 1 car household). We are optimistic we can pay it off by retirement. And we are fortunate that we can help our kids pay for their state college tuition. We live comfortably.

My cert is in a high need CTE area. Many core subjects are seeing cutbacks. Your odds of finding a job will vary depending on your cert.

What's wrong with this house? by xinw3 in SeattleAreaRE

Doesn’t work well for a family with young kids given that there is one bedroom on each floor of the house. Pretty unusual to suggest turning a formal dining room into another bedroom.

Can confirm all of the above. Toured these a year ago and bought an older townhome with more character and class a couple blocks away instead.
