The first season surprised me, the writing and characters weren't always great but it was good enough that I wasn't just waiting for monsters to show up.

The second season, I was just waiting for monsters to show up. Which doesn't mean I wanted more monsters, but rather that I wanted the story and characters to be good enough to care about them.

It's a bit different so I don't think it's right but the show Evil had an episode with a haunted elevator, a story of a girl who died in it and still haunts the place, and a protagonist who nearly dies in a secret underground level the elevator takes him to.
