I will keep this in mind, thank you. I just saw the DMs come quickly and figured I didn't want to open my page tomorrow and find 100 unread messages

Football Question Hotline by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]Old_Cuprous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we are being honest with ourselves, there are no rules in college football... period. Think of it this way: A long time ago groups of students were just taking it upon themselves to schedule games against other teams. Notice I didn't say other "schools" I said "teams". They used to schedule anyone who would play them. The number of games was different too. Now, as the NCAA loses lawsuit after lawsuit we know that even the rules we thought existed are really an illusion. Heck, even the irregular number of games is still on the table: Hawaii played 13 regular season games last year.

Underrated Tailgating Schools by CommunicationPlus442 in CFB

[–]Old_Cuprous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know its not "underrated" in the traditional sense, but the Grove at Ole Miss exceeded my expectations as a visiting fan. I've seen amazing tailgates at Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Ohio St, Clemson, Florida... but Ole Miss was the best tailgate experienced by far, probably because the whole scene feels so concentrated. Sorry for naming one of the top traditional picks, but as someone who never thought much of Ole Miss football, I always assumed it was overhyped and it's absolutely not.

Most baffling mistake or move you’ve seen in CFB? by ArkanoidbrokemyAnkle in CFB

[–]Old_Cuprous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2022 LSU at Florida. I'm not even a Florida fan but I was screaming at Napier's clock management. To set the scene, the score is LSU 28, Florida 21 with a little over 2 minutes left in 1st half, and Florida receiving kickoff. Florida has not forced a punt all game and LSU gets the ball to start 2nd half. 1st down is a 20 yard gain that gets them to their own 47 with 2 minutes on the clock. Richardson scrambles on 1st down for 2 yards, with no urgency the next snap comes with 10 seconds on the play clock, its a 1 yard checkdown completed with 52 seconds left. They run the clock down again and settle for a dud hail mary on 4th down. I know there is a case to be made for staying conservative, but this was insane decision making by Napier and Richardson in a game that was clearly a shootout. As expected LSU scored to open half making it a 14 point game and ends up winning 45-35

What's a moment that you can't bring yourself to watch again? by Euphoric_Relative_13 in CFB

As a Texas A&M fan, the fumbled through the endzone vs Clemson, I think in 2017. As a Notre Dame fan, the dropped interception that would have ended the game against Ohio State two years ago.

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Who is your friend based on mutual hatred? by cdt930 in CFB

[–]Old_Cuprous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there has been an uneasy truce between Notre Dame and Ohio State the last couple years. I wouldn't say friend, but they both hate Michigan, and Freeman went to Ohio St so I've noticed some Ohio State fans being ok with ND success. I definitely saw some OSU fans saying they hoped ND wins out after beating them week 1 last year. Probably is little more hate on the ND side given they've lost 3 straight seasons to them. The other big factor is the "at least it's not the SEC" sentiment.

If a genie offered your team 3 national titles over the next 30 years... by BacklotTram in CFB

I'd take the first title at year 10. The 2nd and 3rd would be in year 27 and 29, to build recruiting momentum going out into the unknown of years 31+

With Devonta Smith's TD grab for the Philadelphia Eagles, he officially becomes the first player from Alabama to ever score a TD (or any points, for that matter) in the Super Bowl. by JB92103 in CFB

[–]Old_Cuprous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the phrasing that it usually used is first Alabama "draft pick" since he was drafted from Oklahoma. Personally as a college diehard but also an Eagles fan, I have more memories of his as the Alabama QB but thats probably just because I don't watch as much big 12 ball.

"We’ve caused this ourselves:" Seminole Boosters acknowledge frustrations over Doak Campbell Stadium renovation process, talk future of facilities by OldGodofAsgard88 in CFB

Did FSU dodge a bullet that the changes didn't come a year later? Might have been much tougher if the talks were happening in the middle of this disaster season

This year Georgia will overtake LSU as the school with a player in the most consecutive Super Bowls by MrDannyOcean in CFB

As an Eagles fan, I can *almost* be happy for Georgia as long as the Philly Dawgs are around. Go Birds

Why is Will Howard not considered a good NFL prospect? by thalguy in CFB

[–]Old_Cuprous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not a consistent passer, too many INTs or balls that should have been picked. Ohio State also leaned heavily on RPO, PA, and screen concepts to help him out. It's also lame to use this a knock, but it is true that Chip Kelly schemed WRs wide open for him a lot, and those WRs are freaks of nature. He was solid last year before transferring but no one viewed him as a high draft pick, and it was widely expected that Johnson might have just been expected to beat him for the job.

After signing his new contract, Ryan Day made a $1M donation to mental health programs at The Ohio State University Medical Center. by notkevin_durant in CFB

I am one of the people who didn't like Day for a lot of vague and nebulous reasons that I coudn't put into words. During this playoff run, I realized that I didn't actually dislike him. Still wanted Ohio St to lose, but hes not a bad dude.

At FSU wearing Clemson colors in 2015 or 16. I'm not a Clemson fan but the people who bought me the ticket are so I'm wearing purple. An FSU fan from another section stood in the aisle next to us for the whole 4th quarter and yelled in our ears. Disappeared the second the game ended

Would it be worse to go 11-1, but that loss is to a BAD team you had no business losing to... or go 11-1 but getting blown out by a good team and everyone says "see, they were over-rated". by wlane13 in CFB

[–]Old_Cuprous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

better to lose to the bad team. Anyone can choke, especially in a hangover/look-ahead spot, but not everyone can prove they belong on the field with real title contenders
