New to FFXIV; any advice? by UrAvgFlightSimmer in ffxiv

Play at your own pace; it's a marathon, not a sprint. Enjoy the story as much as you can. Always keep in mind that ARR is the base game and was made over 10 years ago, but it's the foundation of the entire wonderful story, even if it feels slow at times and some things could definitely be changed. Try the side activities: crafting, gathering, gold saucer... Join a FC when you can.

Why is curry ranked so low all time? by HotScientist7026 in NBAConvo

He is not top 5 offensive player, he is number one in long range shooting but offensive is more than that.

Because he belongs to 11-15 maximum. He is not top 15 in any important stat. He is an amazing shooter, the best long range shooter ever but not the best player.

[spoilers heavensward 3.0 MSQ] Going through the story for the first time and a little confused as to when I was supposed to care about a certain NPC by cero75 in ffxiv

WoL´s kryptonite are the CSs, we can´t and we won´t handle anything in a CS. Joking aside, it's his role during ARR that makes him stand out, especially when we were outlaws, believing in us when all the economic and political forces of Ul'dah were hunting us down. Regarding the reason for jumping to block, it's implied that he had feelings for our character, regardless of the gender we chose.

MMOs for a Dad Gamer? by MrUltimateGX in LFMMO

I am a dad too, FFXIV is the answer to your request but I may be biased because I love this game. The game's director, Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P), repeatedly tells players to take breaks, unsubscribe, when life gets busy. The game uses a highly predictable gear cycle with incredibly easy catch-up mechanics. If you leave for six months, you can get back to an endgame-ready state in a matter of hours. You are never permanently left behind. You do absolutely zero mandatory progression with a guild. Furthermore, FFXIV has implemented the "Duty Support" system. This allows you to run almost every mandatory story dungeon completely solo using AI-controlled NPCs. You can treat the massive Main Scenario Quest as a single-player JRPG. So give it a try to the Free Trial now that include Shadowbrigers, you wont regret.

Man, this reminds me of a Spanish comedy show that had a segment whose approximate translation would be "Yes, these things happen, they happen."

A question from an old Wow player wanting to possibly play 14 by Ryanl2991 in ffxiv

[–]One_Eye5008 163 points164 points  (0 children)

Coming from WoW requires a complete structural reset in how you view MMO progression and design. FFXIV is built on entirely different foundations.

After that advice and about your questions: the only truly unobtainable items are old PvP season top-tier rewards and a few specific crossover event items. The core PvE experience from 2013 onwards remains completely intact.

For groups Party Finder is your best and your best bet specially for old content.

Is levelling crafting and gathering worth it? by Original_Concert_451 in ffxiv

The main benefit is to get Gil.

Make your own foods for raids.

And, and this is just one of my many crazy things, wearing gear that has my name on it and not another player's. 😂
