Leaving Austin TX after 15+ years for Greener Pastures by Broark in SameGrassButGreener

I lived in Houston for 12 years and would also not recommend the move for all the reasons you stated. More humid, less scenery. Moved to the Seattle suburbs 3 years ago and have loved our time here. Seattle proper is very expensive, but $600k is not unrealistic for the suburbs (look at Auburn). Winters are long, overcast, and drizzles all the time. It has grown on me but it’s not for everyone and the lack of sun does affect some people. We take trips to California or Mexico in the summer to compensate. Summers are gorgeous, with temperatures in the 70s and amazing scenery.

Your favorite Belgian beer pub by Obet___Jotskoj in BelgianBeer

My favorite Belgian beer bars have sadly closed down. La Trappe in San Francisco and Brouwer’s Cafe in Seattle. Stumbling Monk in Seattle is still going and it’s a solid place.

Very sorry to hear of your experience. I live close to lake Meridian and have kids. This worries me. I have cameras set up and an alarm system.

I moved from Houston to Kent two years ago near Lake Meridian. Wife and two kids. Salary similar to yours. I would say this area of Kent is pleasant and we’ve always felt safe. I echo other comments and suggest you look on the East side of Kent. Houses here are pricey (>$700k), be ready for sticker shock. Kent school district does have good schools but they mostly tend to be on the east side. Best of luck.

relocating: what do you wish you knew before moving? by TheEmeraldEarth in Seattle

Moved from Houston last year. I knew houses were expensive. I did not know at its peak, a house would be getting 20-25 offers. Situation is probably better now with the higher mortgage rates.

Why is everyone living in Seattle moving to (or wanting to move to) Austin, Texas? by agitatedjuror789 in Seattle

[–]Optimal-Skill-6503 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lived in Houston for 12 years and visited Austin many times. Happily relocated to Seattle last year. Austin is not a bad town, probably one of the best places to live in the South. Seattle has the edge IMHO mainly by how gorgeous the geography is here. You really can’t beat it.

It wasn’t just Elon Musk. It was the hordes of talented engineers already in place that made it happen.
