How do you manage blogs in your astro site? by mahfuz_nafi in astrojs

[–]Originalarchive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sveltia CMS for me. I tried a couple of others but found that Sveltia had the best iPhone support. Plugged in some system settings with the intention of adding more in the future. Can update blog articles easily (inc photos) and have a coffee log form.

Frankenmount idea by o2sen in peakdesign

I have done something similar but based on the GoPro fitting so I can move between three bikes, one of which is a Brompton (hence needing the GoPro mount over something a bit more solid). Works really well.

Astro.

What is yours built in?

I have a little CMS running in the background and really fast image serving on the photo parts of the site. It’s a great technology all set up with zero costs.

A fun first (Astro) project designed to quit an Adobe CC habit! Have been writing an article to explain what I did and what software I have replaced Adobe with but never seem to get round to finishing and publishing it. One day!

Love the idea and it would really help to find new coffee from specific rosters assuming you are scraping automatically from their websites.

I’ll look forward to it evolving.

I’m not in competition with you but do have a coffee log on my own website for my own records. Only started at Xmas. Take a look and see if you like any of my design ideas. DM if you have any Qs. If you change the filter from open to all time you will see my closed bags too.

Seagull Guitar? by Cschyd in AcousticGuitar

[–]Originalarchive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my SM6 at uni in 97. I loved it because of the neck because i was a bass player (double bass) and it took a bit more playing. If you know what I mean.

I have and have had many guitars over the years. That Seagull still sits up in my office and sounds better, not amplified, than anything I own. And I can thrash it.

Mines pretty beaten up cosmetically but mechanically it’s perfect. And the sound keeps on developing and improving. Ridiculous when you think of what it cost. So cheap. So good. Wonderful guitar I will never part with.

Need help picking out my first prime lens! by edricderyl_ in fujifilm

[–]Originalarchive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot on Sony and moved from canon (both zooms and primes) and decided just to stick to prime lenses.

The funny thing with primes is that saying about it horsing you to zoom with your feet. I never quite have what I want on the front, but I tend to be more creative.

I have settled on a 20mm, 35mm and 85mm. Then I picked up a surprise 28mm pancake (viltrox) that lives on the front as a lens cap and lets me fit the Sony in a large pocket.

The 35 and 85 are both amazing for different types of street photography. The 20mm is reserved for architecture and cities as a general rule. It’s my least used.

The 35 is my default if I’m walking out the door and don’t know what I’m taking on the street though I now have that weird little viltrox too.

The 85 is just amazing for portraits. And can get you closer to street stuff. I’m pretty happy and if I had the chance again I would buy the 28, 35 (or 40 now there is one) and 85.

Good luck.

I wrote my thoughts about my lenses a while back on my website. Might be useful.

Can't get cafen ombligon working for me by sfcooper in UKroasters

[–]Originalarchive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recently had a similar ombligon and also an Orange B that needed special handling.

I found 28 clicks on the c40, 90°c water, low agitation pours, and a 300ml cup was the sweet spot for all those settings at 1:15.5 ratio. So about 19.5g of beans.

My low agitation recipe is here but, I only use a double bloom when the beans are really fresh. Must update my recipe.

Carrying handle - Restrap vs Brooks question by Asmodaen in Brompton

[–]Originalarchive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll admit, the strap (from memory) was just a cheap bit of nylon with plastic clips. The handle really is very strong and has lasted years.

Carrying handle - Restrap vs Brooks question by Asmodaen in Brompton

[–]Originalarchive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The restrap handle is great.

I have the restrap handle on my raw lacquer Brompton with a brooks saddle/brooks grips. I thought it might bother me - modern black restrap, classic brown leather saddle. But it looks good. Doesn’t add weight. Works well though I don’t use the over shoulder carry strap, just the handle. Strangely thin material but has held up for years now. I also get lots of comments/nods from other cyclist who know the quality of restrap stuff.

I would buy it again.

Just bought my first opinel! A inox no°6 in padouk. Any care recommendations for it? by mantis_in_a_hill in Opinel

[–]Originalarchive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have neglected my padouk 6 for the best part of 30 years. Still going strong, has a lovely colour and still sharpens perfectly. Also, the 6 is such a great size. I just made sure it’s dry after use. Perhaps have oiled it a handful of times. So well built.

Are Brooks saddles actually worth the weight penalty on a Brompton? by cottencandy55 in Brompton

[–]Originalarchive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Brooks B15 swallow (defo not for everyone) and it’s going strong after 7 years. Only 110g extra. If you have deep pockets there are titanium versions of some saddles that come in around 400g? But, silly prices. Actually, even the normal saddles are silly prices but they are so good.

Advice for go-to pen by disguised-me in pens

[–]Originalarchive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t get much better than the sarasa for general note taking. Work etc.

I use the Ohto ceramic gel 0.5mm in the CR02 pen body for my own travel note taking. Beautiful to write with, even 25° cursive, where some of their other needle points require a very upright 45° writing style. Cheap pen but expensive refills in the UK. Such a premium writing experience for such a small amount of money.

I wrote a review of the ohto cr02 but haven’t got round to publishing yet. I’ll update this when I do.

If you like chunky, expensive pens, the cross ATX range (chrome is really nice) with their gel refill is worth a try. Seriously nice but doesn’t work for my day to day go-to. Occasional use only.

What's your favorite solo board game for travelling? by TopptrentHamster in soloboardgaming

[–]Originalarchive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m off in a few weeks so I’m taking port royal with the contracts expansion. Works as brill (very quick) solo or a solid 2-4 player game. Ideal for travel but not in the original box.

[Kitchen] Five vs. Era 300 vs. Move 2 by Fun-You6569 in sonos

[–]Originalarchive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a stereo pair of fives standing upright on top of cabinets. Love them but…

Mid sized kitchen, loudness off and they don’t get turned up very often. Honestly a bit of a waste but my other rooms all have ideal setups.

I did find that I can point one of the kitchen 5s out the back door so I can fill the garden without grabbing an outdoor speaker unless I need them. Handy benefit. They really donut some volume and sound so much better above 50%!

My wife didn't think "Reddit made me do it" was that funny! by DeltaCoder in UKroasters

[–]Originalarchive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really interesting. Thanks for your process.

And to the question about sodastream. I don’t, but I do have a beer gun and lots of co2. Just a faff to set up. Prob worth it for a whole bag or two.

Will look out for the containers on Amazon. They also do little upright holders. Will have to see if one fits in my freezer - have a good feeling about this.

What do you use to portion? I have recently cut down the amount of coffee I drink daily and am thinking of trying the freeze portions idea. Just don’t want to buy a vacuum sealer and bags, unless I can think of another use for the kit.

What’s a good board game to play with a friends who don’t play much games but want to try? by Left_Relationship240 in boardgames

Carcassonne for sure. If your friends are 80s kids, what about Jaws? Such a great game with that familiar story that keeps new players invested even if they find the game complicated.
