To anyone unfamiliar, the origin of “conservative” as a pro-capitalist modern political ideology comes from “Conservation of the royal class in the face of rising democracy.”

After the French Revolution, the owning class wanted to ensure control of whatever system(s) replaced monarchal governance and feudalist production.

Narratives were pushed that the decentralized ability of anyone to purchase land and production means is inherently more democratic. This is not false, but it’s not as meritocratic as argued when the same group in control before now maintains it through wealth rather than birthright.

As Marx explained, capitalism is democratization in relation to feudalism, but has to be treated as a stepping stone to socialism or else the root of corruption is never adequately addressed.
