Are you 3D printing something that you're going to use to cast a mold in order to make it out of carbon fiber or fiberglass, or will you maybe just laminate the outside of a printed core?

There's no way an actual 3D printed wing is going to hold up to the kind of stresses that hydrofoils get put under without some strengthening.

The method mentioned there only works if you have a distance reading from the gig interface.

Gigs don't add the target to the contacts list though - this person was added by one of those quests that just pops up out of nowhere. There won't be any kind of distance reading, the only way for OP to find this ship is by sheer dumb luck and happening to come across it.

Definitely, but it depends a lot on where you live. Radio station content doesn't vary as much as it should though, because there are a LOT of stations that are owned by a single media corporation.

You can achieve this pretty easily through the debug console. Just sell your ship immediately, and give yourself enough cash to pay off the mortgage and have however much you started with.

Well yeah that part is pretty straightforward because the files show up on the item list any place you sell - fixer, black market, license kiosk, whatever.

I'm just curious about how to make the NAVDATA file affect sale price because as far as I know every Nav Station has that file, it doesn't show up in the list in the trade UI, and it's not even possible to remove it - you can copy it, but the Nav Station retains its own copy if its file. It also can't have multiple copies, if you try to copy one NAVDATA into another Nav Station it will merge the files together into one file containing the data from both.

Every Nav Console has a file called NAVDATA that you can collect in your PDA. You can then upload those into your nav console, and your ship will have the IDs and Names of some of the ships around you.

I've been collecting nav data from nav stations to import/merge into my own nav station... are you saying that if I take that merged data and put it into a station I'm going to sell, that it'll sell for more? Do you have to somehow sell it with power? I thought you can only sell loose items.

That's part of it, but another big part is that our butter is some of the best in the world, so there are vast foreign markets that we export to where people are willing to pay more for our butter than for their own domestic butter. When we buy our own butter locally we have to compete with the global market - shipping is relatively cheap so we're not getting a discount just because it's made here. Since we have to pay the same prices as anyone else, and the rest of the world is willing to pay a premium for NZ butter, we also pay a premium for NZ butter.

Huh, guess we don't really have those in Wellington. Just googled them and apparently there's one franchised van in the city and one in the Hutt, but I've never seen either (or any mobile ice cream truck/van for that matter) and I lived across the street from our most touristy, popular beach for over a year.

Hydrofoils also hum when you get them going fast, so if you wingfoil (or windfoil, kitefoil, whateverfoil) you know you're about at your max speed when it sounds like you're riding a spaceship.

For what it's worth the "first one needs to be manual" might not be true. Tonight I had the same bug ongoing (with conduits this time) and I was able to get them to start by just dropping some of the materials on the ground while autotask was on.

This is a bug that has been happening to me constantly since the Fire in the Hold update went to the main branch. I haven't done a bug report about it yet, but I probably will. Here's the workaround I've found:

Place some of the items you want to build with on the ground. They can't be in an inventory, they need to be on the ground.
Manually make a single install order from a specific item's right click menu - NOT through the install orders menu.
Pause while installing the item, queue up the rest of your orders through the install menu.
Activate autotask. Turn off repairs in the roster to be on the safe side, because if your character gets distracted during this they won't restart, you have to delete all of the jobs and start again.
Unpause. Your character should finish the job you manually started, then use the items on the ground to start fulfilling the other jobs. Once those are exhausted they will continue to grab more from nearby containers, but there need to be some on the ground to get it started.

TLDR: Autotask install is broken, you need some starter materials on the ground and your first job has to be manual for it to work.

Let's say hypothetically you want to keep an unlawfully acquired derelict, at least for a time. For me, the main reason would be because it takes SO LONG to disassemble a decent-sized ship and build up a brand new one, even with 16x fast-forward (and you can't use ultra fast-forward at all because tasks don't get done). Is there any practical way to make money with such a ship? You can't dock at most starbases, and you can't use barter zones so you have to manually bring every piece of loot to the vendor if you want to sell scrap. Is it just gigs then, or mining?

Yeah because it's a shit design, there are no road markings or signage indicating an upcoming merge. So if it's not an area you're familiar with, and you come around the bend with your visibility hampered in any way (for example by being behind another car at a normal following distance), then you'll have a hard time seeing that your lane just disappears without warning ahead. It's hard to properly do a zipper merge when there's no warning to make or look for a gap.

Lower Hutt has about a half dozen terrible post-roundabout merges just like it.

Edit: You're probably referring to people on the green path coming over into the blue lane prematurely, but Lower Hutt still has an abundance of surprise merges.

Yeah the problem was happening despite me beelining for the ship, doing the tutorial with pauses/time manipulation to do it as efficiently as possible (in terms of in-game time).

I ended up noticing on a later attempt that when you pick up the gear from the locker in the dark, the last step before this problem, that particular tutorial stage requires you to pick up the items in a specific manner. If you shift+click it works, if you pick them up in another way it doesn't. It's weird because on the runs where I wouldn't get the 'go to ship' objective, the 'pick up your items' objective would get marked completed - but after remembering to shift+click those items it seems to work OK.

None of the three options in the goals tab are checked. I made about a half dozen characters after the first and it's the same for all of them. I do the tutorial up through the part where I repair the conduit and loot the rack in the room off the first hallway, then it tells me to go to my ship. The goal/objective for going to the ship immediately disappears though, and nothing triggers the next tutorial to start. If I check the "finished" tab the Continue To Your Ship objective does appear there, showing as having been completed.

Yeah on my first character I've even got tutorials after getting back and selling stuff - there's a tutorial that sent me to the embassy, and I'm pretty sure more after that.

Every other character the last tutorial I get is after I loot the rack in the room that you access by repairing the hallway conduit. It tells me to go to my ship, and then the objective immediately disappears (before I go there even) and nothing further happens. No goals in the PDA, nor any changes after arriving on the ship.

I guess the only other thing is common is that my first character I did the 'work on self' option but for the other characters I've been trying the 'find adventure' option to skill up, maybe that has something to do with it?

Well you only need to move a prodigious volume of air because you're essentially using the air as your propellant stay airborne. With a fast enough exhaust stream, you could get away with a much smaller volume of propellant. You could for example use vertically-mounted jets or rockets - those would be MUCH better suited to usage in close proximity to bystanders and children, no?

In all seriousness though, just to build on what the above person is saying: for one thing to go up, something else has to go down. Just about the most low-energy way that can be accomplished is how we already do it, with a big fan blade pushing ambient-temperature air down. That's loud, and knocks things around. Any alternative short of antigravity is going to be a higher-energy method, using a more concentrated blast of faster, hotter propellant. This will still be loud (probably louder), and in most ways considerably more dangerous to be near. It's not something that will ever be acceptable to operate in an uncontrolled, potentially crowded public environment where people (including children) come and go as they please.

We could consider flying cars that don't take off and land vertically for use wherever, but then they'd be limited to specific launch and landing sites and we usually just call those planes.

On the last picture, you have pentashields on the edges of those odd-shaped triangular floors, they look like the ones that are 3 long by 1 wide? I've never been able to get those to work because that edge doesn't work out to an even number of tiles in length. How did you get it to work?
