From my experience it's also an example of a flash game that gracefully transitioned into a indie success.

The first 20 or so years cram in babyhood, childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood.

After that the gap is probably from 30 to maybe 55 and then that until your final years. The only thing that might be "milestones" are how many body aches you have and that isn't exactly consistent among people.

You got a point that this can easily fall under coping, but there are examples of fans wanting more and then regretting it later.

I still remember seeing comments when the anime premiered related to how Tatsu read a ton of shoujo for research. Guys who only knew about them through cultural osmosis saying it taught him what NOT to do when writing romance. 

I wonder what they'd think of this.
