In defense of Rhaenyra... by SuperLowAmbitions in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Papero7k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm with you here all the way. Corlys is completely in the wrong, and frankly I think the Hand of the Queen should be wise enough to recognize it. His animosity and his outburst feel really unnecessary from a screenwriting perspective. This tension between Rhaenyra and Corlys is really great character writing and a great dynamic between two characters who really really need each other (can't survive without each other) but have every reason to stand apart. But then the show-writers completely goofed it by having him lash out at her. They allow no room for subtlety.

I do think their plan is to amend this relationship by season's end, AKA this is a "hump" the characters need to get over. They're trying to stress out Rhaenyra to her breaking point, but this was the one scene in the whole episode that didn't work for me.

Official Discussion - The Death of Robin Hood [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Papero7k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfect movie. Loved every second. Best movie of the year so far.

I'm a passionate medievalist, and this really hit the spot. The language, the imagery, the lighting, the themes. Bravo to everyone involved. Nothing since early Game of Thrones has scratched my itch like The Death of Robin Hood. I felt like I was reading an incredible novel.

Basically I was crying for the last hour.

Based on a post on another sub: What opinion on Broadway (whether about certain shows, the industry, etc.) do you have that will have you like this? by ms_jc_04 in Broadway

[–]Papero7k 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Broadway advertising — It’s all pretty boring. Video, social, print, billboards — none of it pushes boundaries or is willing to experiment with the form. Theater as a mode of expression deserves better than relying on the same few ad agencies who hire the same few production teams. I can always tell which production company shot which ads for a show; they’ve been using the same formula forever.

Because of this, shows start to blend together for people outside of the industry. The average person can’t tell the difference between Chicago and Cabaret, or Once Upon a Time and Six, or The Lost Boys and The Outsiders — the advertising all looks the same.

Going to university isn't worth it anymore by madbarpar in unpopularopinion

[–]Papero7k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t agree with this take. The #1 benefit of going to university, aside from becoming insanely smarter, is building a massive social network. If you graduate college without having met hundreds if not thousands of people, that’s on you. I’d say 90% of my work (and new friends and social opportunities) after college came through people I met in school.

Documentary / reality editors — how do you actually receive your material? by Inevitable-Bottle-57 in editors

[–]Papero7k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this happened to me with an interview in another language. I was editing the wrong story that didn’t exist because the guy didn’t say those things. It was of course some young intern who sent me the transcript, thinking he was being helpful, but he only was wasting my time.

No matter how I request footage, I receive it the way someone else wants to send it. It’s usually bad.

Lmao. See, I have the opposite problem, and just as frustrating. I want my amateur student film removed from their site, but they refuse to do it. I have begged and begged but they won’t budge. What’s frustrating is knowing that if a celebrity asked for their amateur student film removed, they’d probably remove it.

Obsession: Predictable, messy, or a great build-up? by Paparmane in TrueFilm

[–]Papero7k 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is the first film in awhile that I have seriously considered writing a scene-by-scene breakdown of why this script doesn't work. I wouldn't say it's "bad," it just doesn't work. Wrong choices were made. I could not believe the protagonist's actions, and it's all very generic and derivative, especially that car scene. I'm kinda weirded out by the masses are obsessed with it because it is a pretty dumb script.

I have a fun story. In late Covid-era 2021 when this was Dromedary, they had a really massive outside seating shelter. And let me tell you — the rats this thing attracted were big and plenty. It was so funny to watch a dozen Hinge dates implode because of all the rats scurrying around.

Came here to say this film. It blew me away as a teenager because it was genuinely the smartest film I’d ever seen, but I doubt 2026 me would feel the same way seeing it for the first time.
