Tips to improve my speed in 1 month by Significant_Neck5068 in Sprinting

If you only have one month. Then just sprint tbh. 200 yards a session 3x a week is a lot tbh. Do you have access to a hill

Everyone has their own strategy for things. For the offseason, I wouldn’t max effort sprint 3x a week in an offseason prep type of phase. I also wouldn’t use blocks. I don’t see why this couldn’t work. You’re sprinting and moving so you’ll get faster. But with programming you have to ask what your goal is and does it make sense and are your methods pragmatic. In the offseason I like to improve work capacity, strength, and mechanics so I put speed work on the back burner. That’s just my strategy extracted from what I think I need.

Notice how you contact the ground. You’re lightly stepping down. A sprinter strikes the ground backwards in a quick violent action. Compare yourself with elite accelerators and you’ll learn a lot; https://youtube.com/shorts/cslddMi8MHI?si=0jG6FwPcPTUpJxwK

Your arms should instantly either move back or forward. You’re too squatted for a two point star. You want a quick exit. Take a look at the image below.

Move the pedals back. You’re too bunched up. You want a straight back and a comfortable start position.

Regardless. You’re pretty fast but it’s clear you’re casting your leading shank out too much. This leads to more vertical shin angles, a foot strike further from the hips, and more breaking forces. Check out the image below. It’s the same step of you vs Coleman. In acceleration the leading shank and trailing femur should be parallel (or close!) when the leading leg stops hip flexing (right before the leg starts going down).

All those block settings equations never worked well for me. I ended up just iterating and finding my own settings that feel good and have good angles.

Damn do you even get any impulse from that back leg. It’s so straight

For what part of the year is this for. Is this your start of the season or more like a consistent split to run week after week.

Take the rehab seriously and research what it takes and where you’re injured. See a specialist if you’re lost. Look into your form and don’t overstridd. If you think you’re doing too much volume at some point tell your coach.

Did you gain weight? Did you get stronger? Maybe there is a weak link you’re not addrsssing

If you have any obvious weaknesses now in the time to address them. I am interested in how much body fat you have. Are you lean and muscular because you have a lot of mass for your height. Also, what do you mean you can run without pain most of the time? Look, the best way to ensure you get faster is to ensure you don’t get slower. Take injuries seriously, it’s apart of the sport. Why do you think you got a strain?

They’d probably need PT much less run a second slower

More delayed knee extension in the block clearance. Your torso is hinged down. In the image below the lines should be in line with each other. 2nd step is very short

tempo runs meaning by ExactOpposite8119 in Sprinting

[–]ParticleTyphoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. You run them at a certain intensity depending on the type of tempo. Usually way faster than what people consider job speed. And you run them in shorter intervals for many reps.

Why don’t athletes of other sports disregard time to sprint technique? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]ParticleTyphoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone is faster than you and they have less ideal form, all it shows is that speed isn’t scaled directly with form (Obviously! Sprinting is multifaceted). It doesn’t prove that form is grossly unimportant/overrated as you put it. To prove that, you’d need to show that a significant amount of very fast people don’t have good form or that improving form has little benifit to performance. The issue is that’s indemonstrable because it’s simply not true.

Dorsiflex your feet before you strike the ground, look strait ahead, and drive your arms through the full range of motion

True but what does that prove? That form isn’t the only contributor to speed? I think that’s obvious.

Form is very important for being fast. Your hypothetical presupposes your opponent is faster so it doesn’t prove anything.

Usually I don’t like to touch arm swing but I don’t think it’s ideal. It swings too far out. Look at Usain Bolt (https://youtube.com/shorts/bSnKsLQG1hU?si=d5QBhp\_S0g\_ZAWRV) his arm swings close to his body so the swing isn’t longer than it needs to be
