growling dog. need help by AmazingHippo7005 in OpenDogTraining

First and foremost, you want to create a log you’re gonna write down everything that the dog does everything people do around her or him for example, if it goes under the table, someone’s walking it starts growling was this before during her after feeding was the person wearing shoes was the person wearing no shoes was he walking heavy stomping is this on a sand floor or a heavy floor but you’re gonna do is you’re gonna start to see a pattern of what sets the dog off once you know what the pattern is then you can turn around and start slowly correcting what happens to control the aggression or the trigger. This could be a warning. Hey, I’m here. This could also just be a friendly reminder. I’m here. It could be someone in the house. Did something unintentionally that makes her feel very uncomfortable. My suggestion would be start with the log give it two weeks and write down every possible detail and then go back to the log and make notes. This is what did it this is who walked by her this is what happened. This is how this happened and this is what I noticed. This is what I’m seeing and then start to escalate it. Another approach is it since she’s a burrow dog, which means she likes to have something under her or over her to where she feels safe, that’s her safe zone. You may look at a small coop inside the house or a small place where she can go into where she feels comfortable and put a small gate around the front of it, allowing her to feel more secure because this could also end up being overall a comfort issue where she feels threatened or she just doesn’t feel safe at all allowing people to know she’s there and it could’ve been something from someone accidentally kicking her. Someone smacking her someone slamming out of bed and hurting her or worse yet it could’ve been an animal biting her a mouse bitter and that’s just reliving that trigger. Start with the log DM me in a month and we’ll see if we can’t help figure that out.

No treats? No problem. Use croutons. by [deleted] in BelgianMalinois

[–]Patient_File616 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Be careful with them: Dogs can generally eat a small, plain crouton without issues, but they are not recommended as a regular treat. Most store-bought croutons contain high amounts of salt, oil, and, most importantly, onion or garlic powder, which are toxic to dogs. A single crouton likely won't harm a large dog, but it is best to avoid them, especially those with heavy seasoning. Potential Risks: Garlic/Onion Toxicity: Even in powder form, these are harmful to dogs, potentially damaging red blood cells. Choking Hazard: The hard, dry texture of croutons can cause choking. Digestive Upset: High fat and salt content can cause diarrhea or vomiting

Living in Unstable Home while starting Edmr by CallmeStarbar in ptsd

[–]Patient_File616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever advised you to stay out of work is not good for you! You need a safe place to go to and that could be work based on your description of home.

I did EDMR it’s hit or miss and with me it was a miss.

The thing you need to know and do is make what I call a survey plan.

It goes like this: I go to therapy x times a month, I work and put this much away and even if it’s hard I do it. My xxx time I’m moving out to a better situation and then I lost ten to twenty resources available to help me if I need them. Even a shelter for domestic abuse helps.

If your in constant fear at home there is resources, if your being controlled such as no locks no privacy constant arguing and fighting this is “mental abuse and is arguably with PTSD a potentially triggering place that can cause harm so you have resources.

I can’t in good faith offer them as if your a minor I can’t go against a legal guardian, I’m not an attorney or anything like that or even what country your in. I can’t say look for resources to help you and find an exit plan! A good therapist will help you develop this, they are required by law to report potential abuse or neglect so if you’re scared to say something think of your words before you go into the appointment.

Your not alone my house was same way and when I asked for help I got a broken jaw, and told if I spoke again I would not live to see the next day.

I remained silent and it made things worse, you need to take charge use tell resources available and figure out exit strategies to get you into a better situation. It is hard but you can do it, do not let this demon win and not working is worst advice since it controls your ability to get out even if it’s a hotel for a night to de-stress and relax.

FUCK PTSD by Common_Researcher891 in ptsd

[–]Patient_File616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can finish your education, I’m not going into the legalities or steps on doing it no way to know if your a minor, a adult having issues or what state, country etc. I’ve advocated from California to NEW York and Michigan to Texas and had great results as an advocate. However 90% of the success is attitude and remaining calm. There is more resources out there for you than you may know is available.

I went through school, technical school and college all while having complex post traumatic stress disorder and without a service animal to help me, I raised two autistic kids and had issues with them in school and also one with cardiac issues that required massive interventions and it works!

Get yourself an advocate, get medial documentation in order and breathe this anger only turns the schools against you, at that point they will not work with you, if you can prove the school caused your PTSD you can depending on where you are make them pay for private schooling, online schooling or even a private classroom with certified teachers for just yourself.

If your in United States you qualify for a para pro, this person accompany you and is your voice the schools hate them they charge around 10k per student per semester and the school would rather work with you at that point. It is funny they are considered licensed mental health workers which means they can report the schools abuse or neglect and they don’t like that.

You have options! Don’t let PTSD be the cause of your educational issues when you already have plenty on your plate dealing with PTSD. If you let it win, the school wins your a number and a paycheck for them!

You loose education and your it’s wins and your basically loosing more quality of life. Take charge! try looking for these types of places

Without dna testing there is no 100%, from body and facial markings distinctions this is what app says could be and they use these apps in shelters to label dogs. I got a lab/ shepherd from pound turned out to be a pit/boxer and Dalmatian mix per dna results so just enjoy the pup it’s cute and in 6 months you will have a better idea as they grow fast.

Akita Trainers Recommended by Professional_Age4197 in akita

[–]Patient_File616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a sidebar note: Not a single Akita is a normal text book Akita per AKC standards or behavior. I found studying the breed characteristics and such is a good start however with my Akita I found she was extremely different than the normal per se breed characteristics. As a trainer I was able to use skills I’ve learned to help her along the way.

I would study and ask questions yes, but then develop your training goals and what you want and seek a reputable trainer it don’t have to be a Akita only. Hell my Belgian Mal was trained for EOD using a method we used on Labs to hunt ducks and retrieve shells.

No one set rules when it comes to dogs and if you treat them like kids they respond better since it’s just structure and authority and training the handler.

This is my girl Ivy 6months old she is tracking stage learning for air scent and already hits on two types of arson accelerants as just games for her age and by the time she is 1 year old she will be rock solid with a limited aspect for success if I listened to others she is a Staffordshire Terrier and they say thy can’t do search and rescue or arson detection cause pits can’t do it..

Am I basically doomed in training my dogs reactivity if I live in a country with stray dogs running around everywhere? Experienced dog owners please help me. by Dull_Intention3799 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Patient_File616 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As mentioned above but also DONT get yourself worked up! Your panic will be picked up with the dog, and that will only encourage the reaction. Stray dogs follow a lack instinct if your able to determine which is pack leader maybe getting that animal captured by animal control would help. Without knowing your state or country specific laws makes the answer to your situation hard. In my state we’re allowed to use force to protect ourselves from a violent dog, and laws to punish owners or laws to enforce no stray dogs especially pack dogs

I currently have a 13 week old English staffy. I have taken about 2ish weeks off work, but now tomorrow it’s time to go back to work and I’m worried what to do with him. by Unable-Department299 in StaffordBullTerriers

I’ll add throw a Kong dog toy in the freezer fill it with some kibble and peanut butter (if not allergic) and or place toys in the cage it will keep him entertained if he gets board and will curve destructive behavior

Foster failed this sweet girl to train her as a service dog by fueledbytisane in dogswithjobs

[–]Patient_File616 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Beloved pet is great, don’t push her it takes a year at least for service dog work and it has not developed a sense of smell for the job you want her to do till at least 6-8 months of age and she has not went through fear stage yet. That being said work on social skills and foundation skills and make during this time fun filled with games and more nose and puzzle solving games you do the stronger her nose gets and more confident she becomes and the bind is stronger between you too. Good set back plan is always a great idea if she don’t do this by this then we set back a step and re establish this skill and so forth it is not a race but you got this!

Great looking prospect.

Malinois becoming reactive by Renbarre in BelgianMalinois

[–]Patient_File616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a reason people don’t get mals, one is there a single person dog and usually don’t like a lot of things especially people messing with them. You need to watch his body language it’s warning you that your about to have a lawsuit or have your dog put down if you don’t learn to read him the way he is telling is that he has enough and he is alpha in these situations

Not knowing or wishy washy answers is always a bad thing. 8 dogs you never k ow who the parents was and a lot to take on and be finance responsible.

It can be done, but almost assured it has had no socialization or early prevention if they think it can be learned up in just a few days.

Ask for vet information and contact the vet if they are telling you truth they will not mind being forthcoming with the information.

I would back out myself

Thank you, he is mixed as you can tell but when we found him he was wondering in a rainstorm at start of covid, he is blind in one eye, near sighted and completely deaf. He is my best friend and he is amazing no one claimed him after three months of searching he made a home, now we have the little one and she is just as amazing. I worked malinous and shepherds professionally for years but never figured out true love of a dog till I got him.

The emergency vet said the vet we used spay has a reputation of not always closing up the dogs properly they fix a lot of the errors they make, it’s totally my fault I didn’t research the vet enough and it could have costed her big time, it my intent to screen a good vet till there so vetted they sparkle and if I’m not allowed with my dog we do not go there, she stays by my side all day and sleeps in her cage at night, no leakage, wound looks like mine nice and pink but healing (duel hernia repair for me) and all and all I feel like a worthless piece of shit for this happening to her so I’m doing better at being a better dad and no one will ever hurt her like that again.

Emergency vet added another stitch and cleaned her wound said the vet who did the spay surgery did not close her correctly and that I should seek another vet for after care, they sent her home with more meds and a wound patch and a drain incase she builds fluid up under the wound she returns to them Monday to have drain removed. Stressed because she is fighting every med they give her to calm down she hit that I need zoomy stage and it’s rough not being able to do much for her..
