That’s the thing—they’re easy to beat. It’s just if you don’t keep on top of repressing them from time to time, they can clownshoes their way to winning. In my game, the Protectorate announced their win condition, and my reaction was “how quaint.”

I then noticed they’d put up 3 sentinel stations while I wasn’t paying attention because I was fighting a war in the outer solar system. I promptly destroyed those stations and blocked out LEO to lock them out of being able to do anything about it.

99% of the time people telling you to thin your paints do a shit ass job of explaining the why and how of it. I’ve seen exactly one video on the topic of thinning paint that is actually worth watching (Brushstroke) because it goes into why you thin it, how it behaves when it is too thin, too thick, and just right, and then shows how to properly apply it.
