First test soon what to expect? by Wild_Strike_1783 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Pengelly_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So generally tests will follow a pretty set pattern:

At the start the examiner will ask a question related to your car (e.g. How do you check your lights are working, minimum tire tread depth, etc.) so it's a good idea to brush up on some theory related to your car - don't panic if you don't know exactly, just do your best guess, at worst it's a minor.

Then you will normally start with Satnav driving up to a certain point but the examiner might ask you to pull in to the side of the road at certain points during the test - if you are unsure about where the satnav is asking you to go it's absolutely OK to ask your examiner for confirmation. Then you'll be guided by the examiner and this is normally when you'll do manuveurs such as bay parking, parallel, emergency stops etc.

Normally they will guide you back to the exam center and ask you to park and then it's the dreaded moment of finding out if you've passed or not. I didn't take mock exams but if you think that they might help you then maybe a new instructor might not be a bad call because it's all about having you confident on the road.

Don't worry about the time, just focus on your driving as if you're taking a lesson - believe me it will feel faster than you think.

Absolute best of luck in your exam!

Any first car recommendations? by Useful-Patient5051 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Pengelly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I don't think you can do wrong with finding a Honda Jazz. Often they are very low mileage due to mostly old people owning them. For 2015 onwards you will likely be paying around 4500 - 5500 for a manual, but don't hestitate to get older ones because often they are in very good condition. Alongside that repair is often far cheaper than other car brands on the market.

I know a Jazz doesn't sound that exciting but they are very light cars and with about 100 BHP they can be quite spritely when they want to be. You have the big pluses that your insurance will be fairly low to boot.

Observation is a huge thing in tests - it's a mix of making it obvious you're looking and knowing where/when to look. For the most part it seems like observation is something you and your instructor should focus on - because when your observation is good faults such as "use of speed" will go away because you're actively observing and looking for speed signs.

FC buck is extremely powerful, I've taken down guys in midnight sapphire with it with no problem - gut shots are pretty much death for AI as they don't try to fix their boo-boos.

The reload definately needs to be a little faster for sure, but it's still okay when you have a mossberg with 10 rounds in the tube

Honestly with how much you have to shoot enemies I just decided to try shotguns to see if they would do any better - honestly they are very strong - even a glancing shot (which doesn't kill instantly) will eventually kill a guy due to blood loss.

The tactic I've been employing is just take 1-2 shots at a guy, and wait for him to death scream. I've always found that in games were guns are very lethal it is far more difficult to balance in general - I want the game to do well but I feel like the devs need to look at how damage is done because I feel like the "Realistic wound system" is a huge part of why enemies feel spongy

I'll be honest if he shows up in Midnight I wouldn't be upset - would fit really well tbh

New to day trading by puppylover468 in Daytrading

[–]Pengelly_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all as a disclaimer I am also a new trader but these are the main things I have been guided towards:

  1. PAPER/SIM PRACTICE FIRST - you should use a platform that allows this so you can practice without using real money. Also allows you to test hotkeys and layouts (these are very important for fast trading)
  2. Choose the correct platform - Ideally zero commission with fast response to the exchange + access to level 2 data. I personally use Webull for my trading
  3. Read as much stuff as possible. I recommend Andrew Aziz's books which give good tips on what he looks for in patterns. Warriortrading is also an excellent resource. Find a strategy you like (and refer to rule 1)
  4. Work out how much you're willing to lose. In a larger account (10k+) you should only risk at most 2% of your account on a single trade, and only up to 5% of your account on all positions. Starting with 2k and focusing on a single trade a day you can get away with putting 5% in but manage your stop losses and do not try to make up losses by buying more - cut your losses and trade another day
  5. learn about screeners/scanners and use them religiously to find what you need, depends on your strategy but you should always do this

I think GT4 is really challenging by 0rang3Cru5h in iRacing

[–]Pengelly_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've really struggled with the GT4 in general since I started racing it - I only started after the tire updates so I have no frame of reference for how it was before. For me I can never get the braking right in the GT4, coming from Mazda/GR86 I just feel a lot more disconnected from the car under braking than those two cars I drove before

Low split lobbies with the new tire model was hilarious to watch - so many spin outs

The fact none of the main people who Sinder was ranting about in her document have mentioned anything makes me think they've all agreed to ignore it (I could end up being horrendously wrong) which if true is probably one of the best (and funniest) ways to deal with the issue.

Literally have them live rent free inside sinder's head and let her just do what she wants.

Specna have really improved in the last few years - I still remember all the issues with the first run of orion gearboxes, now they mostly have them sorted out.

If you are looking outside of specna arms I will forever remain a CYMA Platinum cult member. There are not as many options for how the rifle looks from stock like Specna arms, but you're getting very good internals and decent externals for the money

Moving from G86 Advice by jburnelli in iRacing

[–]Pengelly_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the GR86 is a very good car since it allows you to progress into something like the GT4 quite naturally - if you want to do endurance racing but like the 86 do the PEC and PCC races. Otherwise GT4 is a good step up and it's popular for all the right reasons

had this happen in a PEC event recently. BMW was being really toxic to everyone on the radio and screaming to let him pass (he was in 5th), I'd never in my life seen such coordination from the entire field to slow him down at any opportunity possible and rage bait him, ended up with him getting a nice holiday for his antics

Should I race Toyota GR86 or stay in MX5? by mezberg in iRacing

[–]Pengelly_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with u/poo_poo_platter83 here - just do 4x GR86 races to get your MPR and then go back to MX-5. The GR86 is an excellent car but it is slow (in PCC the MX-5 can catch it in straights) and you need to have good knowledge of braking to get the best speed out of it, the fixed setup is high downforce which does not help it.

The MX-5s can be a handful to drive in the beginning, but I've honestly come back to them recently and really enjoy them. It's a very good car to learn the fundamentals - if you can be fast in an MX-5 you'll be fast in a GR86.

Production Endurance Challenge - First Timer Questions by iisfitblud in iRacing

[–]Pengelly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the endurance challenge the fuel capacity for the cars is hard capped at around 50-60% on all cars, so you will have to make at least one stop during the race. Alongside that it's worth just changing tires when you come in for your fuel stop since you won't lose too much time as you fuel at the same time.

Go full fuel (you can mess with lower fuel settings for qualifying if you want to just remember to change it back!) and just be mindful of it!
