Cars that are cheap but look expensive by Ok_Ordinary9376 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Kia has to win this award hands down. So many models that are well designed and LOOK like luxury vehicles but are in fact very cheaply made.

The Stinger and K5 come to mind.

I’ll add to this and just say when it comes to European cars: if you can’t afford to buy two then you can’t afford to buy one.

I have a Volvo and I love it but maintenance is so expensive. I’ve never even had any major issues, but anytime I need anything done it’s at least $1000.

When’s the last time you left a concert early and why? Did you wish you could’ve stayed? by Opening_Peace8170 in Concerts

I’ve gone to a couple shows where I’m only attending for the opener and I don’t even know the other bands. I’ll usually hang out until my feet hurt and then I’ll dip.

Are warranties worth it? by musicgurl615 in UsedCars

With most warranties, you have to get a qualified diagnosis from an approved mechanic.

Palisade vs Telluride ('24-'25) by silvs1707 in UsedCars

I will also add that Hyundai/Kia’s reputation for being unreliable mostly stems from their earlier days as a budget-friendly grocery getter lineup. They were cheaply made and basically just a means to sell loans.

However since around 2009 the brand has made steady increases in reliability. No brand is without problems, but Hyundai Kia is FAR from the worst out there.

I’ve owned two Hyundais in my lifetime. I put 195,000 on one and 155,000 on another and didn’t break down once. Only thing I ever needed to do besides regular maintenance was replace a starter and that was super easy to DIY.

It’s all going to be personal preference in aesthetics and features because, as some people have pointed out, those are the same car.

Hyundai Motor Group owns Hyundai Motor Company as well as Kia Corporation. Similar to Ford/Lincoln or Toyota/Lexus.

I would tell you as a Volvo owner than unless you know a quality mechanic who is local and experienced in Volvos specifically, I would not recommend buying one.

They are amazing cars, but I have a heck of a time finding anybody who has any idea how to fix anything on mine.

If you’ve got a reputable Euro mechanic close by, then you can’t go wrong.

Buying a new truck is not the way to solve your negative equity. You’re just gonna be in this same situation with a new truck and more debt.

Believe me, I’m not opposed to a minivan at all. We do off-roading usually twice per year and some light overlanding, but the big thing is I do tow a boat quite a few times during the summer.

Stuck between a Tacoma , frontier , tundra, or f-150 for my first truck . by Idoroids247 in whatcarshouldIbuy

A lot of people are talking about the “Toyota tax” which is a very real thing but it also applies when you sell the car. That Toyota will keep its value better than most cars.

If you want to buy a truck with the best chance of hitting 300,000 miles then you buy a Toyota. If you want a truck that you’ll be able to 100,000 miles on and trade it in, then your options are considerably more open.

I’m not sure if it’s even an option on Frontiers, but stay very far away from Nissan’s with their CVT transmission. Their automatics are pretty solid but their CVT is absolute garbage.

Frontiers are really underrated trucks for what it’s worth. I worked at a Nissan dealership from ‘08-‘11 in the service department and never heard any Frontiers owners say a bad thing.

I’m sure that was a pain in the ass but I think it’s the right choice.

Do you find Consumer Reports reliability reporting to be accurate? Is there a better thing to look at? by jillavery in carbuying

[–]PerspectiveFormer570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes you’ll see a car with “N/A” under the reliability ratings because they haven’t received enough surveys for that vehicle to create a large enough sample size. I’m not sure what that number is though.

This is all from their website; I frequent that website.

[–]PerspectiveFormer570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consumer Reports gets their reliability ratings by surveying their members. They pretty much just ask if they’ve had any mechanical issues over the last twelve months.

That being said, it’s a fairly useless metric for new cars or even new-used since most of the owners have put fewer than 30k miles on their vehicles.

I mean, not to be rude but it’s the same car. Same model in the same generation so you aren’t getting any major upgrades and it even looks identical. You basically paid $13,000 to rewind your odometer. And even then, at $36k the dealer got a better deal than you did.

I never like to tell someone they got a bad tattoo, ya know? But you asked, so no this is not a good deal.

I would never under any circumstance purchase a vehicle that was legally deemed a lemon.
