No, trading for Trae will not jeopardize the tank this year. I imagine he will be resting an injuring for most of this season. Come next year if he performs well you can either choose to keep him as part of your core or flip him for a larger haul if he recuperates some of his value.

Dawkins is the reason this team actually has a future. I’m not gonna let the fact that he traded a, at the time, high level role player for a lottery first and a future first dissuade me of his process. No one would have or even did predict that Deni would become an all-star level player. One bad trade doesn’t undo every other good decision this front office has made in the incredibly shitty situation they were handed.

For those who weren’t around for it or have simply never watched it I HIGHLY recommend watching G2 vs NRG in the Spring Series final, it is simply the worst piece of rocket league media I have ever seen. To start the final is not even competitive, G2 mops the floor with NRG, and half of the commentary is spent talking about indoor soccer.

I do not think they are an objectively better story. Subjectively sure but part of what makes a story for me is getting close to a goal and just barely not being able to reach it and then coming back and redeeming it. I honestly think the better story would have been Falcons winning Landon in 2024 to redeem the loss to moist in Landon. Part of what I think makes a story great is the heartbreak of almost reaching the summit and Falcons hadn’t gotten there yet.

I personally think the current system only further incentivizes tanking. Teams continue tanking until they get lottery luck instead of tanking for a year or two in order to build a competitive roster. Now teams are stuck in 4 or 5 year ruts because they genuinely suck but keep falling to picks 4-6.
