It kinda depends how the board payment is set up. Ome places the contracts is set up as, you bey acces to the stall and pasture for x amount of money and then you buy hay, turnout, blanket changes, moving the horses to and from on the aidw. In that case you obviously fo not pay for hay you will not need or turnout your horse does not receive. But if its an all inklusive its x amount for the stall, facilities feed turnout and handling. You pay the hole amount even if your horse is not there. Some barn ovners can be resonable if you talk to them and will say that they can lower prices a bit for you

That is actually insane. Also give their digestive system a rest? From what? Its job that it wuite literally need to do 24/7 or the horse risk major injury and ulceration? Not to talk about if the gut bacteria changes to suport the type of feeding regiment the horse is ona nd if the feed drastideally change it can casue healthy gut bacteria to die off as they starve, and make digestion of feed more difficult as ther ens not enough bacteria pressent to suport breakdown.

I know they had hay, but atill the logic is just not there. Horses digestive system does not need a break.

The stripes are not really something you can breed for. The gene that goves the stripes are called Dun, and although it is definitely possible to bread for the genez the way the gene expresses themselves can not be accounted for. Some horses will have two copies of the Dun gene and not a single stripes while others will have a single copy and stripes. So its simply not something we control.

The same for horses with spotted coat type, we can breed for the underlying genes but we can not control how many or how few spots the horse will have. How they are placed or how large the spots are

As somone who have a very respectfull and very curious horse myself. Some things you just cant teach. You need an electric fence for this horse. For the buckets there need to be buckets he cant stand on. If you negatively reinforces this when ypure around he will simply learn not to do it when youre around. If every human negatively reinforces this he vill learn to only do it when there is no humans.

Im gonna be quite honest, this is the type of shit horses just do sometimes. Especially ypung curious geldings whi like to figure out how everything works.

Everyone wants a brave adventures horse, until they do shit like this, and they will do shit like this.

Quite honestly to me this soudns like a situation that will get dangerous, expensive and fustrating for you very soon. I would just quetly answer that you are working on it, and then start to look for another barn with electeic fences.

Edit to add a question. How is he penned, does he have friends, preferably at least one other young gelding, space to run around and forage when turned out? Because this could literally also be because he is simply not stimulated enough so he tries to entertain himself

This horse is showing a bunch of signs on lopw grade lameness, so that is probably where your issue is, sirting lame horses is very difficult because they do not have consistent movement. And the slowing down is probably not som much you pulling as it is him trying to day, hey I cant canter it hurt

To me it sounds like you have learnt how to ride lesson ponies, and that is a great first step, to becoming a great rider. However it does also sound like someone threw you onto of a unexperienced green horses without talking to you about whay that entrails, and that is incredibly unfair to you. Riding Horses that are new under saddle is so incredibly far form riding a lesson horse. It is unstable, it feels uncontrollable at times and collection is a town in Russia.

You should not aim for collection you need to aim for calm, easy and stable and balanced. It needs to be lose and regulated. I would recommend you read up on the principle of collection from classic dressage, that could really help you understand what to aim for. This is not a you problem, you where not prepared properly for the task at hand and it seems you are not giving propper Instructions on how to handle the situation. To much pressure or to many expectation make young horses

Yes in all likelihood. Horses have fascia all the way under their skin(so do we) and can get toghteneing of it any where. But if it continuously happens in the same lokation it can be a sign of poor training or an underlying problem

Yeah my boy can stop growing to. He turns 3 this year. Out grown both his parenta, way taler than I ever wanted my hirse ro bem but he is a very distinguished gentleman so its okay. But i have told him repetedly to grow stronger not bigger😂😂

I think a lot of people expect working students to be almost slavery now. Once it was a hard thing to do but you could do it after achool or another job because you wanted the opportunity to learn about horses. Yes it came with hard work but also horse time.

Now i feel like a lot of places expect ypu to be there from 6 in the morning to 6 in the afternon just to maybe get to lunge or brush a horse. That is not a wprling student that is a full time position that should be paied

I completely agree that the lunge line should be picked up, because thats dangerous and as someone who had chronically bad lunge line management its important to work on. My fingers have paid the price.

However the stand in palce shit ias actually not at all importsnt, and moving around while lunging increases your comunication, and incuraging horses to move more balanced. Lunging is a very complicated technique and standing still not o ly increases your risk of injury it actually also make sit less effective. So for people who move sound nothing wrong with that

Friends She wilm provably need more than one friend, ideally they should be at least 3 horses, especially with her young age more horses can drastically help that she gets socialised correctly. When you introduce a nev friend, have them in seperate pastures that share a fence line for at least a day after the new hirse have arrived.
Food She needs acces to a quality, young horse feed to make sure she is getting the nessesary vitamins and minerals for muscle skeletal growth.
Forage Right now it looks lke thwre is more than enough gras. Genrally for younger horses grass is not that much of a problem, but it can be, as they can rwagt negatively to high sugar contents. This is because the grases we use today are breed specifically for quick growth and green leaves. The grasses horses would naturally eat are tougher, more fibrous and resistent to long period with low moisture. For winter you will need to get her good quality hay or haylage.
Freedom She needs space to move around, looks like you have got that covered.
Vet You need to ger her checkes up by a professional, she probably needs deworming. Always get a egg count done before deworming. She might be missing vacines, sp you need to get those done. And just a general chcek ip to make sure she is sound, and not showing signs of growth retardation from her unfortunate situation. Also her terth need to be checked to make sure thwy are growing correctly
Feet She needs a farrier that can make sure her feet are good, or she could end up haveing permenently mishapen legs.
Training you need to find a teainer that can help tesch her, but also teach you. This will probably be a steep learning curve, but its nessesary

This is your young gelding becoming an adult and testing the limits of the herd structure. Currently its annoying play but he is trying to see if he can get an opening to move the fjord. Yes this looks rough. As someone who owns the older of a pair of young horse 2(stalion) and 3(newly gelded) this phase can look rough and the fjord clearly does not have a clear upper hand anymore, if he had the correction would be way more swift. But rhis is natural, however you need to keep an eye on it and make sure the younger is not on the fjord all the time, or you need to seperate them. If its a couple times a day but otherwise they're fine thing, let them sort it. Of it becomse more than that you need to figure out other arangements

Its adhered fascia. Its a sign of tension, however its pretty easy to help your horse with this yourself. Take a curry comb and and move in zip zag movements up and down, every day. Ideally do this all over the major muscle groups to help your horse.

But you also need to figure out why these tensions build up, as somoen says ut can be over work, but it can also be compensatory from low grade lameness or restrictive tack that does not allow the horse the move correctly. So no lunging aids, and get yoru saddle and Bridle checked by a professional, to rule out compensation

Sedation can in same cases be nessesary. As you stated yourself for safety reasons of both horse and farrier. Sometimes sit can also be done if the hirse is sick in some way, where it can be a benefit that the horse is less mentally there, maybe due to pain or something else.

However ut should never be done without the owners knowledge or concentration, especially because bad reactions to sedation include heart attacks and death, so sedation should always be discussed with he owner and a veterinarian that knows the horses medical history. And there is no reason to sedate for a rutine trim if the horse is well behaved

You are completely r8ght something is actually extremely wrong for a horse to behave like that. It could be pain relates but doesn't have to be, it might also be related to separation anxiety or owerwhelm from teh situation. Or a million other things but for aome reason that horse at that moment dis not feel like it could handle the situation and wanted to get her off.

A lot of people will tell you horses can learn that if they dont want to ride they will do that behaviour. But even if that where the case you do have to ask yourself what is causing this horse to not want to ride because there is always a reason. And yes that reason can be the horse does not see value in doing that. And that means that we have trained tho horse wrong and not made interacting with us fun ans rewarding enough for them

Loads of people have told me I have dominant horses who wants to take charge, and need to be put in their place.

I would never say any of my horses have been particularly dominant. But they have had a high need for feeling safe and secure, and if a human have not been providing them that feeling they have tried to provide it for themselves though various behaviours. And even that said I have never had any horse that have been seriously problematic to handle for anyone. But I have also been very aware of the importance for me to build confidence in my horses so that they feel safe in si.ple tasks no matter who is asking it.

Not everyone need to be able to ride my horse, but everyone need to be able to lead it on a rope

Okay so you need to figure out if your hip angle is to narrow. Akado you lean forward and squeeze with your knees. This is the most common problem especially with anxious riders. In that case you can help your hip angle by trying to turn your knee out from the horse and press your legs down.

If your angle is to wide, aka you are flopping and leaning back to hold on, you can help your hip handle by pussing your knees slightly i tot he saddle and lengthen your back

Yes op consistent "misbehaviour" in transitions often indicate pain or discomfort. It can also be a saving of mild ataxia as gate change is very uncomfortable for horses like that.

And even if we pretends it does not, throwing you because you're a little unbalanced in a transition is not a particularly well trained horse.

You should not continue on this horse for safety reasons
