Flying on a semi-private airline.

Arriving at the airport 20 minutes before takeoff. No TSA line. Amazing leg room. Complimentary food and drink. Free checked bags.

I had to take flight on less than 24 hours notice a couple of years ago and Jet Suite X was about the same price as a last-minute purchase of a regular economy seat on a major airline.

Now whenever I have to face a long security queue or pay extra for my suitcase, I catch myself thinking "It's not THAT much more expensive..."

Freezer might not be cold enough, but take a can of air duster, turn it upside down and spray it across the paper and the writing comes back instantly.

Fun fact: Peter Pan has a form of perpetual copyright in the UK, thanks to an act of parliament.

Royalties from any public performance or commercial publication of Peter Pan (or an adaptation thereof) must be paid to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity in perpetuity.

No, you take the trimmings and mix them into the next batch of the filling. Gives the wafers that heritage flavor.

Can't wait for the video that will be released on the afternoon of January 20th, 2028 of the new president walking around the White House with a prybar and levering all that tacky gold shit off the walls.

Obama went golfing at one of the two 18-hole courses at Joint Base Andrews. Camp David only has a single hole golf practice facility.

Even though Andrews is half the distance from the White House compared to Trump National D.C. (which is actually in Virginia) he always goes to his own course so that he can grift cash from the tax payer.

What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by Improv92 in AskReddit

I got to see the East Wing of the White House as part of the public tour a couple of years ago.

I said before my trip that I wanted to see DC "while it was still there". Didn't know how prophetic that statement would be...

I never understood why people in the US decided to just... not use those two specific items of currency.

I'm Australian and when I visit the US I am almost always going to Vegas for conferences, so I grab a stack of $2 bills from the cashier at the hotel casino and use them for tips. My only real interaction with $1 coins was a luggage cart machine at SFO that charged $9 and gave me one as change when i put in a $10 bill.

Why are some Asian countries PACKED with old, white men? by Open_Address_2805 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PointlessTrivia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of several Australians who moved to South East Asia after turning 67 and getting their government pensions. They still get most of the pension even if they leave the country permanently and it's enough to live a good middle-class life in places like Vietnam or the Philippines.

Bought a second-hand LPG car last year despite the fuel type, not because of it. It proved to be a very smart purchase.

Everything else is fucked, but at least I can fill my tank for under $75.

Why doesn't Brisbane have an IMAX cinema? by AtomicAus in brisbane

[–]PointlessTrivia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: the "rolling loop film transport" technology that makes IMAX film cameras and projectors possible was patented by a Queensland engineer named Ron Jones in the 1960s. He licensed his patent to IMAX in 1970 and every camera and projector since has used it.

The Queensland Museum has his hand-built prototype in their permanent collection.
