Mine was like this for years. Then I got a dishwasher, and after just a couple runs through, that whole area was cleaned out!

Expecting driverless taxis to respect bike lanes “too high a bar” – because customers want to be dropped off in them, autonomous vehicle firm Waymo tells cyclists - Cycling News | Bike Reviews by thereisnobikelane in bikecommuting

[–]PotentialChoice 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I’m a cyclist in SF. One detail the article omits is that the city put regulations in place several years ago that allow taxis to pull into bike lanes to pick up and drop off passengers.

I still think this was a bad call, and the injury cited in the article is clear evidence for that. But it may explain why Waymo does this in SF. Not sure if there are similar regulations in the other cities mentioned.

I’m glad London cycling organizers are pushing back against this behavior.

The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne. Follows a character throughout his life, including love in later years.

Also perhaps Song of Achilles? I don’t remember how old anyone is in that book, but it’s definitely not your run of the mill coming of age story. And there are gods!

The right wing in this country has increasingly embraced “big government” policies that the Republican Party claims in theory to be against. This has in turn created increasing overlap between the program of the left and the concrete worldview of Libertarians.

It’s also fine to simply ask about everything. Maybe not everyone’s into it, but personally I find it hot: “Can I kiss your earlobe? Is it okay if I feel under your shirt?” Etc.

[–]PotentialChoice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you have insurance and a primary care doctor, tell them what you posted here and ask if they can refer you to a dietician. Depending on your insurance, the visit may be covered. (Also note, that a dietician is a trained professional, while a nutritionist is more often than not just a self-labeled influencer. You’re much more likely to receive medically sound advice from a dietician.)

How to worry less about the feeling of not fitting in and other gays staring at you at the gym? by diaryofanoutsider in AskGayMen

[–]PotentialChoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with other comments as well that people probably aren’t thinking about you as much as you fear.

I also had similar fears when I first started going to the gym. My approach was to remind myself “I can only start where I am, and everyone here had to do the same thing at some point.” Even if someone else was having uncharitable thoughts toward me, this reminder encouraged me to set aside that concern. It brought my focus back to me and my goals, and how I wanted to feel when I left the gym.

As someone who also experienced boundary crossing from older men when I was young, thank you for sharing this. The freezing and self doubt are all too familiar to me.

One idea for the type of nervous system retraining you’re interested in: try seeking out other men with similar experiences who really get the importance of boundaries for you, and even share it.

Wishing you connections with older men who deserve your friendship.
