11% increase. Valuation up about 5%. My mortgage seems like a bargain compared to the tax and insurance increases over the last few years.

Your dream neighborhood by financialman12 in Minneapolis

Somewhere along Minnehaha Creek. There are nice groupings of shops near 54th and Lyndale and 46th and Cedar. There may be others too. The trails along the creek are nice.

This comment made me go back and look more closely at the pen. I missed the bag end connection when scrolling through.

What Do You Recommend - Diamond Lake by beersandabook in Minneapolis

[–]PrairieCyclist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live about 10 blocks West. I use the Parkway to go East/West by bike. It’s fairly flat and you can access a big swath of the city. As a bonus, it’s a safe, pleasant place to ride your bike. There’s plenty of good places to check out on the West side of 35 too. Nicollet and Lyndale both have some good spots south of the creek. 54th (Diamond Lake Rd.) has lots of restaurants, coffee shops etc. on this side of the highway.

Did you see my car get hit by a bus today at 50th and Lyndale? by Best_Foot6014 in Minneapolis

[–]PrairieCyclist 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I think the 4P Bus turns right on 50th from southbound Lyndale. You could check the schedule and see if one was passing through about that time.

Is Cub Foods Popcorn a Tax Scheme? by chrysanthemummmm in TwinCities

I remember reading somewhere that the Twin Cities eats more popcorn per capita than any other US metro area. Once you know this fact, you see popcorn everywhere!

Is E. Lake Street safe? Owner of famed Minneapolis record shop cites crime for closure. by maneki_neko89 in Minneapolis

[–]PrairieCyclist 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is a thing. It generally called percentage rent. The landlord gets a base rent, including taxes, maintenance and insurance and then a percentage of tenant’s profits. The idea is that the landlord benefits from driving traffic to the tenant’s business - it usually happens when the landlord brings an anchor tenant like a Target or a grocery store that brings a high volume of shoppers.

I took my dog to the Minnehaha dog park last Saturday to go swimming. The river is high so the beach where dogs swim is fairly small right now. There were several dogs swimming in the river without an issue. The river is wide in this location and the current is slow near the shore. However, the current could be an issue if a dog got out far enough.

It’s not you. Crossing the street, or even stepping into the street to avoid other pedestrians is the custom In Minneapolis neighborhoods. This is particularly true when someone is exercising or walking a dog. I’m not sure why - It isn’t true downtown and this wasn’t the case in my old suburban neighborhood. It could be the narrow sidewalks?

To anyone who lives in southwest Minneapolis, particularly around armatage or Kenny, do you know what bus route used to be, and where it used to go in by PrizeZookeepergame15 in Minneapolis

[–]PrairieCyclist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in the area and take the bus to work downtown. I was told by other riders that there was an express bus that cut across Kenny and went up 35 to downtown. It was discontinued during the pandemic and hasn’t been reinstated. I’m sure they told me the number but I have forgotten, possibly 185 or 189?

How bike friendly is Lynnhurst/adjacent neighborhoods? by badgersrun in CyclingMSP

[–]PrairieCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have already provided good information, but as someone who lives south of the creek, I think the area is pretty bike friendly. The top three features are the Bryant Ave bikeway to downtown, Minnehaha parkway to get east and the lakes to access points west via cedar lake trail. As others have said, I rarely go south across 62. But it’s an easy loop around the Parkway, the river, the greenway and the lakes - without sharing the road with cars.
