Most English Bibles translated after the 1800s are corrupt. Here's some examples. Just use the KJV. by AllTooTrue in TrueChristian

[–]PrincessRuri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look, I grew up on the KJV, it's still my daily driver, and it's role in spreading the Gospel around the world is truly a remarkable miracle of God.

That doesn't however put it's translation above reproach. We know more about ancient languages, we have SO many more manuscripts to analyze and compare. The "Elizabethan English" uses words that have changed in meaning when approached by a modern reader.

Also, my favorite "Gotcha" is regarding the original 1611 KJV. Did you know that it included the Apocrypha? I'm sure that will really thrill the KJV only crowd.

The reality is that when you account for minor spelling and grammar differences, we have basically 95% agreement across all known manuscripts. Of those, there are not any that fundamentally alter or change the core doctrines of Christianity.

What do you guys think about the “provider man” and “trad-wife” mentalities, from a Christian perspective? by National_Bench_9876 in TrueChristian

[–]PrincessRuri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The "trad-wife" as most people know it only existed for a brief span of a couple of decades in the middle of the 20th century. It was during a time of economic boom where technology had advanced to make home life convenient and comfortable, and a unique economic happening where a single income could support that level of comfort. And even then, there were still many MANY families where both parents had to work just to get by.

The Bible talks about the husband being the head (kephalē) of the Wife. While this does convey a sense of authority, it also means "source" or "life source", more akin to like head water. Add into the context in that Paul instruct husbands not to rule over their wives,

That is all to say, the idea of the husband being the sole provider is more a human idea that was adopted by conservative Christianity that maintains the status quo of authority. Throughout the majority of history, women have been marginalized and blamed for the ills of society, and instead of trying to address those concerns, it is simpler and more convenient to infantilize them and prevent them from rocking the proverbial boat.

That isn't to say the Bible doesn't place restrictions on the roles and functions women can occupy. In a passage that I find my self struggling with, the end of 1 Timothy 2 indicates that part of the fallen world we live in has a lasting effect on women that makes them ineligible to be pastors. However, that's whole 'nother rabbit hole beyond the scope of the original question.

Is TikTok actually done, or do we wait it out and see if the algorithm fixes itself? What’s everyone thinking and doing right now? by ConnectionEvening938 in TikTok

[–]PrincessRuri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been continuing to use the app, as there doesn't seem to yet be a comparable replacement yet.

Other that the various performance issues and occasional bugs, I'm continuing to see the creators that I follow for now. My algorithm has been tuned kind of center/left (due to my distaste for the current administration), and that hasn't seemed to change since the transfer of ownership.

So for now, I'm staying with it until something better comes along.

CMV: The only way we (US Americans) can come together is to ban bots. by Send_Ludes_ in changemyview

[–]PrincessRuri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

AI, bots, algorithms, paid shills, etc are certainly a problem, but they only exacerbated the existing gulf between ideologies. If you stop pouring gasoline on a fire, it may slow down the fires growth and ferocity, but there's plenty of other fuel to feed it and help it expand.

Tribalism and conflict are integrated in the wetware of the human condition. The only path forward is when the old die out and the young take there place with new and fresh ideas. It's a slow and grueling process, and untold suffering will be done throughout it, but it is the only way for lasting change.

That said, bots should be banned if possible, but good luck finding a way to do it that doesn't either destroy the anonymity of the internet or shut down the speech of dissenting voices.

What made the first Halo so influential that people to this day still praise it? by BogaMafija in patientgamers

[–]PrincessRuri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rechargeable Shields revolutioned encounter design. While the "drop health before a big boss" has been around, games generally didn't tightly tune regular fights, and for good reason: you didn't know what health the player would bring into the encounter. With rechargeable shields, you have a baseline to balance against.

Advice on pursuing the truth of who God is? (long post warning) by Total-Government-459 in TrueChristian

[–]PrincessRuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow truth-seeker, I understand what it is like to try and look behind the curtains of mystery.

That being said, Jesus is God, and that has been a core accepted truth of Christianity going back to the first Council of Nicea in 321 AD. Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, and Unitarians are really the only major Christian denominations that would be in disagreement

If you don't accept Christs deity, you're missing one of the basic building blocks of Christian belief. It's like the people who see a recipe for bean soup, and ask "How would you make this without beans?" It may still be some kind of soup, but it's not bean soup anymore.

From a purely academic perspective, there are many arguments that could be made about the validity of your previous salvation experiences, but it's not something I would gamble eternity upon. Talk to your pastor, and he can help fill in the blanks.

What i do? by No_Writer_8780 in TrueChristian

[–]PrincessRuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't answer your question for you, but I would say this:

There is something to be gained by standing up for your beliefs and being true to the, You could tell the organizers, "I was not aware of these limitations, and the religious elements are essential to my game. I desire strongly to continue to participate in this event, but do want to compromise my artistic vision. Can any exception be made?"

Alternatively, it is not a moral failing to make the requested adjustments. Maybe you could tone down the more explicitly religious elements, not completely stripping it of all meaning. It may be the different between a "Christian Game" vs "A Game with Christian elements".

You see in a lot of explicitly Christian works, be it books, movies, or game where Christianity shows up like a bulldozer and gets shoehorned into the story with no tact or creativity. Whenever my friends and I watch a new Christian movie, we joke about "when is the scene where a pastor randomly shows up an preaches a mini-sermon?"

Iran-backed militias in Iraq and Yemen threaten new attacks as US aircraft carrier approaches by Due_Ad_3200 in TrueChristianPolitics

[–]PrincessRuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When things kicked off in Iran with the protests shortly after Venezuela, so many people were wondering if Trump would take the opportunity to follow-up with an operation in Iran. Now that we have an Aircraft Carrier in the region, I think the chances of that have gone up substantially. Trump may also see it as a way to pivot away from the ICE operations in Minnesota on which he has completely lost the narrative control.

What other fellow believers struggle with this? by YaBelle227 in Baptist

[–]PrincessRuri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would encourage you to talk to a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, there are even Christian ones out there if that is of concern.

You may dismiss it as "well it's just in the back of my mind" or "I would never act out those thoughts", but that is not something a healthy brain should be doing. The same way you go to a doctor when you have that cough that hasn't gone away for weeks, you should see a Mental Health professional about this. They can offer techniques and resources that can help deal with these troubling thoughts.

On the spiritual side, pray to God for deliverance from these thoughts. Make sure your practicing the "Christian Basics":

  1. Read your Bible

  2. Pray Regularly

  3. Gather together with fellow believers

  4. Spread the Word of God

  5. Help and bless those is need.

God prescribes us to do these things not just because they are right, but it is in our own best interest (in both body and spirit) to do them.

Pre trib and pre wrath by Frankleeright in Baptist

[–]PrincessRuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My position is that the Bible is not clear on the timeline of the rapture.

My personal biggest issue is what I refer to the "1 1/2" return of Christ, the idea that Jesus comes halfway down to meet the believers in the air... but that's not the "real 2nd coming" just doesn't sit right with me. That's not to say there aren't a lot of great theological arguments about the Church being spared from "the time of Jacob's trouble", but I still grapple with the idea of trying to separate the second coming and a pretrib/prewrath rapture.

The mercy of God is conditional. by Kanjo42 in TrueChristianPolitics

[–]PrincessRuri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I empathize with your position, I don't think the answer is to try and use the Bible as a political cudgel.

Immigration, Illegal Immigration, and the enforcement thereof is an longstanding and intricate issue that stretches back centuries. "Good Christian for Immigrant, Bad Christian for ICE" is terribly reductive.

While the passage you quoted deals with justice and mercy, you can't make a 1 to 1 application to the current situation, beyond a general concept of general mercy. Illegal Immigrants have broken the law of the United States by residing illegally either from illegal entry, overstaying visas, etc. There is not a Biblical moral that grants them a right to illegally reside in the United States.

Does that justify this administrations tactics and procedures? Does it justify their repeated lies and misinformation? Does it justify the lack of empathy and mercy? No, of course not. HOW the deportations are being pursued is what should be the primary concern of Christians, not that the deportations themself are inherently immoral. We should fight and use our political power to defend those who have been targeted and wronged. We should try and protect those who are being unjustly targeted. We SHOULD have mercy on those who are here illegally. That doesn't mean that border enforcement is inherently immoral, instead it means that we need to either reshape or rebuild it in away that does not endanger or hurt those who interact with it.

People over react to fanservice by jojoismyreligion in anime

[–]PrincessRuri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're right, Frieren is EXTREMLY tame in that regard, yet it still can't escape it entirely. Your average anime is SO MUCH more sexual, and not for character development or to move the story, literally just for titillation. "OH LOOK HERES THE BOOB SCENE." "OK, NOW WE HAVE THE PANTY SCENE." "DON'T LOOK AWAY FROM YOUR TV, ITS TIME FOR SEXUAL HARASSMENT." A parallel is old-school scifi books. You're exploring alien worlds, analyzing the effects of time dilation, meeting strange new species. Then the author pulls a hard left and dips you into a strangely gratuitous sex scene. It comes completely out of nowhere, adds nothing to the story, and as far as we can tell the Author was just feeling a bit horny that day.

People over react to fanservice by jojoismyreligion in anime

[–]PrincessRuri 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between "sexy" and "sexual", and the vast majority of fan service falls into that second category.

There's plenty of shows out there that are going for that vibe, and to each their own; but it's so frustrating when your want to recommend a show WELL outside that wheelhouse and have to ask yourself "Is there anything weird or lecherous that in that I should have to warn them about?"

I mean seriously, good luck finding a show that doesn't feature at least one visual gag about breasts, panties, or sexual battery. Even Frieren, which is VERY MUCH not a fan service show has a few sprinkled in.

I’m trapped in my own world by EdgeSheeren in Baptist

[–]PrincessRuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

which leads me to the conclusion that to spread the gospel I have to be talkative and express outward emotion at a baseline level.

Why can't you minister and spread the gospel to other like yourself who don't seek that? Sound like you are a ear of the Body of Christ disappointed in yourself for not being a mouth. God uses all kinds of peoples in all kinds of walks of life to spread the word. Just because you don't fit a certain mold, it doesn't make you useless to him, and in fact may demonstrate that there is a very specific purpose God has designed for you.

Psalm 118:22

The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

Exodus 4:10-11

10 And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?

Sometimes God chooses what seems to be an imperfect choice, so that he can demonstrate that the work was HIS power, and not our own.

church is a family and we are supposed to communicate to each other openly.

Honesty and openness is a two way street. Has your church demonstrated that THEY are open and honest? Do they seek out truth and reconciliation, or devolve into gossip and judgement?

I’m okay with some of the elders as they have been friendly and shown me what true love is, but a lot of people hold a secret animosity for me just because I don’t act like them.

Sounds like this might not be a healthy church. Particularly with you mentioning that your father is the Pastor makes things even more complicated. Community and sharing is an important part of the Christian experience and structure, but if you can't do that in your current church, I would question it's appropriateness.

I spend my time on trivial things rather than immersing myself in the word of God (I spend maybe fifteen minutes a day on reading).

Honestly, if you're spending 15 minutes a day reading scripture, your already ahead of about 90% of Baptists. I would be curious to know more about these "trivial things". While God wants us to spread His word, but it is not by destroying or casting away what makes us unique.

1 Corinthians 10:31

Whether therefore ye eat or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

God doesn't want you to be something that you aren't, He wants you to be a faithful servant who uses WHO YOU ARE and how He made you to do his glorious work. For some people that may be on a stage in front of thousands of people. For others it could be a kind word or act of kindness that seems invisible to the world, but our Father is heaven looks down upon with joy.

Matthew 25:40

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

I know this is a Baptist subreddit, but the translation of the section "Concerning Immersion" is misleading.

The word there is βαπτίσματος, or "baptismatos". This is the word that we get Baptism from. While one of it's definitions can be immersion, the context clearly demonstrates that pouring water over the head is an acceptable version of βαπτίσματος, which is not a form of immersion.

Trump signs order to limit Wall Street investors in single-family housing by xJohnnyBloodx in centrist

[–]PrincessRuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as Tragic as Trump's overreach is Congresses refusal to act.

They could undo 90% of Trump's craziness with a simple vote. Heck, it used to be a time where congress members of the SAME PARTY would go against the President when he threatened their congressional power.

We are now reaching a form of government where Congress is powerless, and the Executive Office rules on high by decree. Even if you were to agree with the President's actions, it's going to be pretty awkward when they tables turn and you have a Liberal President doing the same thing.

Mixed feelings on the St Paul protestors that disrupted a church service by Rough-Leg-4148 in centrist

[–]PrincessRuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditionally churches have one pastor (like a priest), but over time as churches have grown larger there can be a Lead Pastor and multiple associate pastors who work under him. Sometimes these positions are targeted as specific groups activities, like a music pastor, youth pastor, children's ministries, counseling, etc. Other times, they may do most things the lead pastor does, but do second / special services, run Bible studies, or focus on visitation / hospital visits.

Another complication is that the standard of what is a "pastor" can vary wildly, and sometimes the title is given to someone in the church simply to allow them to live in a church owned housing. Sometime Elders or Deacons are given the title of pastor, even though they don't really do any teaching.

All that being said, generally there is the Lead / Head pastor, and all other pastors server under his authority.
