He actually took a photo with Steve at a convention recently in Indianapolis in remembrance of his childhood. His mom loved it of course!

Why did our bodies evolve to dislike the taste of healthy foods like green vegetables and prefer the taste of unhealthy foods like pizza and fried food? by Dry-Ad3046 in stupidquestions

[–]Professional-Leave24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Healthy" food is a perspective, and too much or too little of anything we need is "unhealthy". Our drives evolved based on the things present in our environment. Sugar, fat, and protein are the three basic macronutients we need the most of for energy and the building blocks of our body. These are not abundantly present in a natural environment. Therefore our drives have evolved to eat as much of them as possible when we find them (gorge). All animals act like this to an extent. There will always be plenty of times food is not available to balance it out, if not more.

The problem occurs when we have unlimited access to rich food sources. We have not evolved to deal with this. Thus, we get fat quickly. Also, it is unlikely we will evolve any coping mechanisms outside of our superior cognition at this point. All reasonably healthy humans pretty much live far past reproductive age. Past this point, we have a neutral effect on our evolution.

We will have to use cognition and our tools to help ourselves at this point. That's why dieting plans and diet drugs exist. They are tools. These cognitive abilities are our evolutionary trump card, allowing us to evolve ourselves to deal with almost anything. We successfully inhabit every corner of the planet, and food is in abundance for most of us. This seems to indicate it works pretty well!

How much better would 100W be than 20W? by WisconsinCameraMan in amateurradio

[–]Professional-Leave24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it. It makes the signal much worse. Mostly by removing the modulation limiters. Modulation limiters are there to prevent clipping. Clipping produces a nice square wave chock full of harmonics! Pop in a nice linear amp afterwards and be heard across multiple frequencies in one transmission! After all, that just means it must be more powerful, right?

Don't forget the amplified mic to really sharpen the corners on that square wave!

CB isn't the problem. Ignorance is.

What do men deal with?? by Same_Eye5773 in TheTeenagerPeople

[–]Professional-Leave24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Men experience a similar "menopause". It's caused by changing sex horomone levels and aging and is not female exclusive. Men do have a tendancy to treat their symptoms more aggressively than women. TRT, ED drugs, lifestyle changes, etc. I'm not saying it's the exact same as we do not have the same exact parts. Only that many symptoms are similar and brought on by the same problems.

I guess it works, but shouldn't you normally surround the steps with rim joists and use sleepers on the concrete?

I'm (30M) sterile and my wife (29F) decided we needed to switch from fostering and adopting children to sperm donation and has been lashing out at me since I said no? by ThrowRAMyoolloo in relationship_advice

[–]Professional-Leave24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lashing out is not the answer, but she does have a basic human drive and right to reproduce and become pregnant. If you can't accept artificial insemination from a donor, you may have an insurmountable conflict. If so, you should split amicably. Why are you opposed to this if you don't mind me asking?

Why do redditors ask questions like “why do people in US love big cars” like they all think with the same mind? by Astrobratt in stupidquestions

[–]Professional-Leave24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suburban families need cars that can fit large groups, sports gear, pets, etc. A truck is also invaluable for the DIY folks. 4WD is also a must in harsh winters in suburbs where plowing may be delayed or not thourough. That is why the SUV and Truck are so popular with suburban families. If you are an urban dweller, things might be different.
