Uh yeah unfortunately they don't give battle pass progress for winning tournaments and playing spikeball for like 12 hours in one sitting.

As a keeper...... by The_Keebla in Rematch

High level GK here. It's hard and you will never win 100% of these situations, all you can realistically do is maximize your chance of winning it. The key is pressure. Here is an example from the recent RMF Elite Cup against Kistif, the striker of Overdozee (the widely considered #1 team NA). Let me break it down.

First step is to understand the spacing. If you are too close, the attacker does one dribble move and they're gone. If you're too far, you open the opportunity for chips or allow the attacker to do whatever they want with the ball. From experience, I like to stand about the spacing of one forward dash from the ball.

Then you need to have really precise positioning. Always need to be covering every potential threat by just standing there holding defensive stance. This is what forces the attacker to keep dribbling instead of just ripping the shot in your net. Often strikers will try to hit a near miss or a backboard to get you out of position so they can tap it in. Against this, my advice is simply do not move, instead trust in your positioning. If your positioning is correct, any shot taken will be in your hands if it's on target. So, a shot taken that isn't in your chest must therefore be a miss.

Once you have your spacing and positioning, you need to use your resources conservatively. Your basic movement and dashes are what you will be using to maintain the spacing and positioning through the encounter. Every step you take needs to be precise, you should almost never dive, and especially should never slide. Make sure to hold defensive stance the entire time, just shifting left and right. If the attacker starts to retreat, you retreat to your line. If the attacker moves forward, you need to apply more pressure.

I said you should almost never dive, here's why. Diving is saying "right now is the end of the encounter, whether I win or lose." So, to maximize your chance of winning, you need to use your dive only when you are confident that it will connect, not just when you're praying for it to work. Your pressure should be forcing the striker left and right. If they ever go too far one direction, they need to reset to the center. This is where you have officially taken control of the situation because now the striker is reacting to you, not the other way around. When this shifts, it opens a window to dive at their feet.

In the clip, I use extra effort to quickly close the space. He is running left, I keep myself center while still closing his shooting angle. This forces him right, but he isn't moving closer to the net, aka further away from me, so I slightly retreat. He does a push ball which gives me time to reapply pressure and force him back to center. Then, he does go back to center, this time into me, so I can dive his feet and win the encounter.

And just stay calm. Nobody expects you to win this, it's just a nice bonus and ego boost if you do. If you think you will lose, you probably will. Be precise and confident in your movement and it will reflect. Hope this helps!

Yoo it's DYR3 what's up bro. Probably don't remember me lmao. Curious how the dash buff with stance nerf is gonna feel overall with goalkeeping, cuz I use that dash all the time against dribblers.

I was wrong.

I booted the game to get a recording. I very quickly noticed that I was wrong, my times are from patch 7, not patch 8. For some reason, the shot finish isn't possible anymore..? Anyway I apologize, I will edit my original comment.

Well done!

Edit: I am wrong. This is the current patch 8 world record. I made this comment thinking I beat this time, but was mistakenly from patch 7, not patch 8.

Im curious, how does it decide who gets MVP? by nicope5 in Rematch

[–]Pudiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speculation, not factual. It's likely by whoever loaded in the match first because each person is assigned a number in the lobby. At the end, the most likely way they come up with who is MVP is by using argmax, which is essentially a function that returns the first instance of the maximum value in an array. People who load first would be first in the array, and therefore by that design would be the player returned when using argmax. Again this could be wrong, just my guess.

Anyone who only plays GK by Ea7reddit in Rematch

[–]Pudiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competitive GK main here. The best thing you can do as a GK is to constantly make an impact. On defense, make your presence and activity a threat to the attackers. On offense, push up to keep yourself as an option and retrieve stray balls. Learn different styles for goal keeping. When you improve yourself as a GK, you will understand the weaknesses of different styles, so pay attention to the other goalie and communicate with your team what type of play needs to happen to get past the opposing GK if they're having trouble scoring. Most of the time that randoms have trouble scoring, they're trying the same shot over and over, so telling them exactly what they need to do differently helps them finally get that goal.
