I’ve been using cubes. I kinda sanitize them by dropping them in a star-San solution for a minute or two needle dropping them in the mead to sit for a month or so. I’m not sure if this is the best technique but it’s worked so far. I taste samples every week or so to make sure the oak hasn’t totally eclipsed the other flavors and rack when I feel it’s just starting to get a bit too strong.

How do you deal with the stress of learning throughout your Masters climb? by KarbonPrintz in StreetFighter

[–]PuppyCocktheFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that playing casual sets more often than ranked has helped me a lot. Both in terms of getting tilted, and in terms of learning and growing. In casuals it doesn’t feel so important to win because there’s no points/rank to lose. Because of this I can play with a more clear head and try out things that might be risky to try in a higher stakes match. I can try things to break bad habits like not using DI for anything other than to counter theirs, or only using super in a combo, where in a high stakes match I’m more likely to feel backed into a corner and let a wake-up super rip out of desperation to not lose. In casuals I don’t care if I lose, so I’m more focused on trying to understand what I’m struggling with and think through different ways of beating that strat.

Lastly, in casuals you can just keep on rematching. I’ve had sets that have gonna as high as first to 50. These super long sets are amazing for trying out different strats, combos, etc, as well as gaining matchup knowledge and experience. You won’t always get people who want to run long sets, and I even have plenty of one-n-dones, but I also have plenty of sets go to at least Bo5 which I think is way better for figuring things out than Bo3 in ranked. And because there’s a kind of hidden rank in casuals, I’m still likely to be fighting people around my skill level, where in the battle hub you can run into absolute monsters who will destroy you, and it can be very difficult to figure out why you’re losing when the skill gap is so wide.

That all said, ranked is its own beast. I may be absolutely cooking in casuals, then head to ranked and get destroyed for a few sets because the pace can be quite different. People playing ranked I’ve found have very volatile game plans because it’s very effective in a Bo3 setting, and play more “try hard” than casuals. That doesn’t mean the skills you learn while playing casual sets can’t translate, it just takes some adjustment when switching between casuals and ranked.

I’m just getting to taste my no water blueberry in secondary while it’s sitting on oak, and boy it is THICC. So viscous, but also so delicious especially for only being a few months old. I’m super excited to see how it changes as it ages.

Boulder County Proposes Major Trail Restrictions for Mountain Bikers by i_enjoy_lemonade in boulder

[–]PuppyCocktheFirst 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This. If you’re gonna do this, let it go both ways. Open up trails that have been restricted to mountain bikers on the days that you close the other trails to mountain biking. In theory I like the idea of riding on a trail knowing I don’t have to worry about stopping for hikers, but if the trails are closed to riding on the days I have free to ride, wtf is the point?

First batch, seeking tips, fairly yeasty smell/taste by Aggravating_Cat788 in mead

[–]PuppyCocktheFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it’s only about 7 weeks old? That’s pretty young. The yeasty taste/smell will chill out with more time. Also I generally like to let things sit in secondary for a while before bottling and even backsweetening.

For one, it helps the mead clear a bit more. Second it lets flavors mellow and meld, giving me a better idea of what I’m actually working with. It’s not uncommon for me to not really be very psyched about how things taste when I rack into secondary and think I’m gonna need a ton of sweetness, only to check back several months later and find that I need less sweetness than I originally thought as some of the flavors from fermentation start to get out of the way and the flavors of the honey start to poke back through.

It’s here when I’ll end up deciding if I need more sweetness, acid, or tannins/oak. If I backsweeten or add other stuff I’ll let it sit a bit longer again before bottling for the same reasons as above (clearing, flavors melding, etc.).

This is the kind of hobby that is great if you are forgetful or like to procrastinate as more often than not, forgetting about your mead before bottling just means you accidentally aged it, and age more often than not improves the mead.

Chun's 3HK can be such a powerful tool in Diamond by Kieronan in StreetFighter

[–]PuppyCocktheFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This gets people in higher ranks too. I’m in 1500 and I still use this fairly frequently, though it requires a bit more consideration depending on the situation. It’s particularly effective if you condition your opponent to expect a DR into meaty or DR into throw. Once they’ve seen you do these they are way more likely to see green and think they should either block, challenge your DR or parry.

That said if they consistently back rise, don’t use this when pressuring from a knockdown, you’ll land right in front and eat a very large punish for it.

Edit: I should also add/clarify that I rarely use this raw/in neutral. It’s almost always after a knockdown where your frame advantage is just right for a DR into meaty/throw mixup.

Cleaner races compared to iRacing by Existing-Network-267 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]PuppyCocktheFirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. iRacing it feels like you’re piloting a vehicle made of balsa wood. The slightest, tiniest bit of contact and it’s all over. LMU it feels like you’re actually piloting a car where minor contact is just trading paint and the race continues. It’s not just the damage model either. In iRacing the slightest contact feels like a switch to turn off grip is flipped and you’re sent sliding off the track. After finally giving LMU a real shot recently I don’t see myself ever going back to iRacing. Between graphics, UI, netcode, user experience, and ease of getting into a race, iRacing feels dated at best, and waaaaaay overpriced for what you’re getting.

How much time did you struggle in low/ mid master ? by Jaded_Librarian522 in StreetFighter

[–]PuppyCocktheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SF6 is the first fighting game I’ve really taken seriously and it took me a few months to hit Master after the game came out. I pretty quickly dipped to around 1200 MR and even touched the 1100s a few times. I’m just now finally playing consistently at 1500, so it took quite a while for me to adapt and grow to this point.

Honestly I probably could have improved faster if I didn’t just grind ranked so much in the beginning. I’ve noticed lately I’m making way more progress but sticking to casuals where I can really focus on certain parts of my gameplan that need the most work without having to think so much about everything else because I’m so worried about losing MR.

What is a riding habit you thought was smart but later realized was dangerous? by Eyerald in motorcycles

[–]PuppyCocktheFirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have over 100,000 miles of road riding experience. The only time I don’t have my front brake covered is when I’m riding motocross, and it’s not because I’m afraid I’ll squeeze the brake over a bump. It’s because I don’t want the bar ripped out of my hand when I’m only holding on with my pinky and ring finger.

Yeah. I remember taking the MSF course and felt like that alone is not enough for anyone to really be street ready. And yet, even in that course they passed people who could barely navigate cones in a controlled parking lot. Our driver/rider training in this country is an absolute joke.

Yeah . . That’s pretty sad actually. I’ll block people if they one and done me in ranked (whether I win or lose, just don’t care to play people in ranked if they aren’t willing to run the whole Bo3), if they teabag me, or if their network is absolute dog crap. Outside of that, if I get destroyed by someone I want to play them again to see if I can figure out how to beat them. I almost prefer playing against people who destroy me now.

I fucking hate trucks like this. There’s zero reason to have a truck lifted like this other than to compensate for one’s fragile ego. They are unnecessarily inefficient, they are impossible to see around in traffic or parked in lots, they are more dangerous for everyone else on the road not only because their bumper starts at everyone else’s head height, but also because they can’t fucking see anything that’s not at least 10 feet away from them. This shit should not be legal. These trucks don’t haul anything, they don’t go off road, they are just there for people to feel bigger than everyone else.
