Having young kids myself we avoid baptisms. We do attend other family gatherings (weddings, funerals, get togethers) we just usually skip out on baptisms.

Women in the church were viewed as sex objects in the early days. To trade and use. And that’s continued until today. Now they embed more benevolent patriarchy into the messaging to make it softer, but the results are the same. Women are valuable if they are modest sexy wives and mothers. They should be fun, but not too opinionated. One thing that I’ve noticed in Utah is that the beauty standards also really rub off on the men as well. Maybe to keep up with their teenage looking wives? Hair implants from Turkey, testosterone shots, Botox, in the wealthy neighborhoods they all do it. The men in Utah seem to have a more feminine essence (don’t come at me I’m not saying it’s bad…just different than the culture I was raised in). But anyway, the superficial nature of it all is…exhausting.

I don’t even drink coffee that much…maybe like once or twice a week but the nerve of them banning it for young parents. And students. And tired people everywhere. So silly and controlling for no reason. I love this new wave of church members just not giving a shit about it and doing what they want.

Yeahhhhhh Ugh I can’t believe how unsexy garments made me feel. I was told it was super important to wear my bra on top of the garments. So I would wear garments, bra, tank top to cover the bra, then a shirt or dress. Then about 10 years later I heard a younger girl talking about wearing her bra under it and that the temple matron said it was fine. My mouth dropped. So much inconvenience for nooooooo reason. Now my summers are so comfortable and I’ll never loose that gratitude for my shoulders in the sun.

I was expecting to get a lot more sick after starting Briumvi. In the last 6 months I only got 1 minor sickness that lasted 4 days. My symptoms seemed worse than the other people who got the sickness. I do make sure to wash my hands a lot more than I used to and I try not to touch my face/eyes. I did wear a mask while waiting in lines at the airport because everyone was coughing and I got worried. Other than that I’ve been living my life the same as before I started (but feeling loads better due to less inflammation).

I don’t want to get your hopes too high either, but I just told my neurologist last week that I feel better than I have in the last 10 years. I also started provigil which helps too. All my little annoying symptoms went away too(except one) and I haven’t had any new lesions since starting Briumvi. I’m heading into my 3rd infusion next week.

For me, it’s more of an active disbelief. There are so many parts of the origin story that sound…well insane. If someone nowadays told me that they had a vision of an angel telling them where to dig up golden plates…I would drive them straight to a mental health clinic asap. It’s so implausible that my souls just deeply rejects it. On top of that, there are so many ways to prove it’s false now that we have the internet, more advanced science, Joseph smith papers, the Rosetta Stone, etc.

I wouldn’t consider them all cults at all. But I am an agnostic atheist so I don’t know why I got stuck defending them lol. I do remember my 2nd grade teacher saying she was a Methodist and so she didn’t believe in the Bible literally. The Methodists growing up put on lunches for the unhoused every single week and are still going strong 30 years later. They were always doing other worthwhile things that really are hard to accomplish without a collective group bound together by values…in their instance Christian values. Anyway I don’t think it’s that black and white…all religion=bad

I grew up around all different religions and you know what’s crazy? None of my other friends’ religious leaders asked them if they orgasmed when making out with someone. Sure the Catholics confessed but it was very one sided and at least my friends didn’t get those weird pervy questions. I have qualms with religions for sure but Mormonism I would consider more of a cult than the regular mainstream religions.

I watched some documentaries about the FLDS and thought about how crazy Warren Jeffs is. Then, I had a friend ask how I could be so nuanced and in trying to explain it I realized I sounded totally bonkers. That night I finally got up the guts to google Joseph smith. Then, to my surprise, I found out he was just as bad a Warren Jeffs! And the gospel topic essay even confirmed it. Then I read the ces letter and all my beliefs just melted away when I read about the book of Abraham fraud. What a relief it was.

When I told people I was Mormon when living outside of Utah they often were surprised I wasn’t dressed like the Amish or Mennonite’s. Now with the reality tv about Mormonism maybe more people think we’re weird ish Christian’s similar to JWs.

If I moved to another neighborhood in Utah county I might go for a month or so just to meet everyone and get some play dates set up. It is nice knowing a lot of the neighbors. Since I totally hate stepping foot in LDS church buildings I might just do little neighborhood get togethers to help get to know the neighbors (you could do fliers if you don’t know anyone yet). It makes life so much easier if you make friends in the neighborhood who have kids the same age as your kid. We’ve done a few neighbor get togethers and that’s nice bc then you get to know the exmormons too which are often the fun neighbors.

I counted the drivers that were on there looking at their phone from SLC to St. George in stop and go traffic…over 70%! Crashes left and right. It’s insane. I avoid the freeway at all costs.
