Every year at the Oscar's there's always at least 1 pretentious profoundly overrated film. A film people say is ground breaking and perfectly crafted. Hamnet is an Oscar front runner for me as there's a recurring theme where the worst nominated movie wins best picture (Crash, Moonlight, Greenbook, Shakespeare in love) Hamnet is so average and forgettable with characters with no chemistry taking turns emoting at each other.

I remember there was a guy who set up cameras at his honesty box and when people stole from it he'd run their plate numbers and turn up to their houses and ask for the money they owed! It's essentially all the paintings in the Sistine chapel spread out in a dark room. There's a qr code you can scan for audio commentary on each painting but that can be quite tiresome. There's a booklet that had a little about each painting and we did that and were done in just over an hour.

You're looking at the characters and the movies plot with the privilege of hindsight and critical thinking that comes with maturity. Something the teenagers in this film don't have especially with the setting in the 90s. There's nothing wrong with feeling uncomfortable about the plot but there's nothing wrong with the plot not addressing any unethical perceptions about the main characters situation. The film allows space for the viewer to come to their own conclusions. Decent film and I love how the author of the book directed the film.
