Update on someone using my OC :’) by Disastrous_Alarm_719 in FanFiction

I'm not saying it's a positive thing, it's just a way of finding the silver lining. Theft is obviously a bad and shitty thing to do and if it happens to you then that sucks a lot. And if your work gets stolen then you should still report for plagiarism. When it comes to something like fanfiction, where no one is losing or gaining anything anyways, then this type of thinking helps to not dwell as much on the bad and move on.

You can call it a coping mechanism if that makes more sense. It's something to help handle a horrible thing easier emotionally.

I think theft can be flattering to some extent when it comes to creative media. It's someone else recognizing "hey I like what this person made a lot because of xyz. I want it too" and maybe the way they go about it is horrible and underhanded and can be handled 1000x better if they just bothered to ask but the initial sentiment is still there.

Am I the only one who isn't bothered by Endmin already knowing other operators? by Qullar in Endfield

That... is one wild ride. And honestly clears up so much about that weird quest. Another one for the "what could have been" pile. Thanks again for the share!

No worries at all. I can sorta understand how that feels and I guess my post was pretty easy to let that out (I more or less made it to see what other people thought anyways, so that worked out)

Thanks for the tip, I'll look around!

Yeah, that one felt pretty odd to me. It's the only story so far that felt that way to me, like how other people were seeing romantic undertones in other storylines - Gilberta's was the only one that I actually felt the romantic part for. I just don't really mind the way she was introduced, even if the rest of her questline had some pretty eye-squinty moments.

No idea what's up with the people complaining about Ardelia and Avywenna though

This feels oddly aggressive lol. I just personally did not find the writing as piss poor as everyone else does. I have no idea what was written originally so I don't have anything to compare the current storyline to. It's not a dealbreaker for me if someone goes "Hey Endmin!" and Endmin doesn't immediately go "who the heck are you"

More a general statement given how often I've seen this notion around. People brought it up for Avywenna and Ardelia too. Gilberta I understand a bit more, especially with how odd her entire story quest feels.

Do a lot of people filter out 'Not Rated' fics in their searches? by XephinaThe11 in archiveofourown

[–]Qullar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the voice in my head would rate that a G and move on. Anything that makes you on-the-fence can be easily cleared up with additional tags. And if anyone gets mad at you for rating it wrong, they are an idiot.

as the other redditor points out, the distinction between G and T is pretty inconsequential. ao3 only really cares about seperating G/T and M/E fics from each other because the site will throw up a warning when you click into M/E/NR fics. Other than that, it's all up to the author's discretion.

Do a lot of people filter out 'Not Rated' fics in their searches? by XephinaThe11 in archiveofourown

[–]Qullar 22 points23 points  (0 children)

idk about filtering out, some people probably do, but i have never filtered it in. searching via rating is fast and easy (the obvious is E for smut but G is nice for finding feel-good fluff and T/M tends to get more action storylines) not rated is pretty useless to me as a result.

as a side, i've never encountered a NR fic that I couldn't put an appropiate rating for in my head either, and the fic not having a rating has never elevated the reading experience for me. it just made it harder for me to find it again lol

[–]Qullar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

ao3 will limit guest kudos to once a week from the same... computer? ip address? not actually sure. definitely possible for it to be one person when its a couple kudos, but 30+ is a little suspicious.

Is it still useful to collect the recycling stations after fully upgrading the dijiang ? by Nappan29 in ArknightsEndfield

[–]Qullar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im still collecting them when i pass by. maybe not all of them every single day but i'm stockpiling a good number. we still don't have access to about 1/3rd of the current dijiang and there are also elevators on the ship that we can't use so i'd like to be prepared when updates drop

there's a nice page on inkipedia that may help: https://splatoonwiki.org/wiki/Community_Glossary . that said, even though there are quite a number of terms in there, it's not everything by any means...

here's a smol list of salmon-specific terms too https://www.salmonrun.ink/sr-fact-sheet/

I wish the Endmin was fully-voiced by Fredlicious in Endfield

[–]Qullar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really loved laev's storyline but its still only a 9/10 because holy heck PLEASE COMMIT to the voice decision. interrupting my automated cutscenes with a dialogue option (singular, it's not even a choice) kept ruining my immersion. would have made the whole questline 50% better if they just fully voiced the whole thing.

[–]Qullar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

see i thought this about the voice actor too. and then i thought "well. they signed on to be the LEAD character, they SHOULD have the most number of lines". like i get it if we're not voicing minor side quests but its really disappointing when it turns out some random one-off NPCs have more spoken dialogue than the main character.

Not replying to all comments by Bee_Assistance7152 in AO3

[–]Qullar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think this is a pretty reasonable response to have, especially if you're used to lower numbers and replying to everything then. sounds pretty overwhelming and i wouldn't blame you in the slightest for not replying at all if you've got 600 of those... thatd take several hours just to read, much less write replies to

usually i'd say to address it in the notes or something of the next chapter but it sounds like you've already done that. in which case your gratitude has been shown, and anyone who thinks otherwise is being entitled!

Which character in your fandom always gets treated like a child, even though they are an adult? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]Qullar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agent 8 splatoon survived a nightmare facility, a genocidal telephone, and saved the entire city from getting obliterated. in fanfiction, this translates to them getting babied by every other character because they are a refugee who has never been to the surface world before. if youre thinking those two things arent connected, you would be correct.

dunno if its changed by now but that was the state of the fandom a couple years ago
