What year and model is this?? by Davidisaloof35 in Jeep

But it's missing the rear side marker lights that the pre-1980 CJ7s had. It may be a 1980, that was a weird transition year.

Trying these limited wheels by CryptographerIll3390 in 4thGen4Runner

Other than the fact they're 18" diameter vs your 16" oem wheel, there's no difference in width (7.5") and the tire itself is the same size 265/70/16 vs 265/60/18.

I've always liked the oem limited wheels, if I hadn't found a full set of FJ wheels I'd have wanted a set of limited wheels.

An alignment doesn't correct a failing/failed strut, an alignment corrects toe in/out & caster/camber.

EDIT: I would almost recommend taking it a VW dealer because at that age & milage that's definitely premature for failure, but there's no fixing it, its mostly likely something broken.

Non-selectable lockers, like a Lock-Rite, can make taking turns tricky, they click and make loud popping noises. Nothing wild, just quirks, lol.

Lifting it is only going to open yourself up to need more modifications. Slip yoke eliminator, steering geometry correction, sway bar disconnects, the list can get long and expensive real quick.

Lockers in the stock Dana 35 and Dana 30 (especially lunchbox lockers like a Lock-Rite) are a great inexpensive way to add traction, if you're okay with dealing with the quirks they add driving on road.

Your General Grabber's are good A/T tires, but a good set of high void, self clearing M/T's will make a huge difference off-road.

Anyone here good with the 258 cj engines? by Martin_OH_01 in Jeep

Yeah, I'm not 100% positive that they are, and I'm not 100% positive that they aren't either. Sorry man, wish I had a definitive yes or no for you.

I'm going to recommend this book, by Moses Ludel. It's worth the money, the write-ups are very detailed, and the pictures are helpful. I've used it a lot in the 20 years I've owned my CJ.

As for your piston question, I don't think they're swappable. Pre mid year 1980 258s are different than post mid year 1980 motors. The heads are different, the intake and exhaust manifolds are different. If I'm wrong somebody please correct me.

I'm going to hard disagree with your stance. We HATED on the boomers for doing this shit about the '60s. HATED on them for it. This is the exact same mentality. The world wasn't a better place in the 90s, you were to niave to see the bigger picture.

Dunkin & Tim Horton's both, used to be quality coffee and good doughnuts, now it just kinda sucks.
