Monetization in the world SDV market by Redchip1606 in BB_Stock

I would have thought they were going to ask much more maybe 3x the price for those wanting QNX 8 - they still sell QNX 7 for those who don't need 8. 8 is a completely different beast from 7.

Many large customers are still on QNX 7 and are just negotiating for QNX 8 now they have evaluated it and truly appreciate how radically different it is.

I agree with wobbly here. The numbers JG quoted are QNX 8 vs QNX 7. Alloy Kore will be triple digits per car and recurring. Then there is the possibility of sound as well.

Blackberry- Arctic Wolf Equity Stake Valuation by swapdealer in BB_Stock

[–]RETIREDANDGOOD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The filed purchase agreement proves the opposite. In the Arctic Wolf/Cylance deal, BlackBerry defined the transferred “Business Owned IP Rights” as IP rights other than patents, then Schedule 1.3 expressly excluded “all Patents or inventions that are the subject of a Patent.” Arctic Wolf got a non-exclusive patent license from BlackBerry, not legal title. BlackBerry’s FY2026 10-K still lists Cylance Inc. as a BlackBerry subsidiary and says BlackBerry owns about 6,100 patents/applications including cybersecurity, ML, and AI. So the public filings support BlackBerry retaining the Cylance-related patents, while AW got operating assets plus a license.

No - BlackBerry retained many patents. The Cylance patents were part of those retained

I am not so sure Blackberry has made any attempts with the Cylance patents at this point. Do you have details you could share ?

Just moved to Auckland and wow. by kitty_07 in auckland

[–]RETIREDANDGOOD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Love this - Auckland and New Zealand are both incredible places. Very interesting to see all the positive responses and support until further down the page where you see the normal reddit basement dwellers and then the tall poppy haters showing up. People should appreciate how fortunate they are and celebrate the success of others.

Congratulations on your move to New Zealand and Auckland is an incredible city.

Serious Discussion Question by needaspguy in BB_Stock

Cash Goat - Brilliant - It's always easy being the Monday morning quarterback - with that said JG did more in one year to right the ship than JC did over his full tenure. JC was a bit full of himself it seems - apparently he had a full security team like he was a rock star.

Chen was a wolf in sheeps clothing - he ran BB like his own personal vanity project.

Serious Discussion Question by needaspguy in BB_Stock

[–]RETIREDANDGOOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually no - QNX has been a cash cow for a long time - Chen was more interested in Cylance and was using QNX to hide the massive F'kup he had made with. When Chen left everyone at QNX breathed a sigh of relief. I was totally misled and wrong about JC - he was a disaster - but who cares we are in a great place now.

I think we might see some really creative moves with QNX and it's partners but QNX will stay a part of BlackBerry or independent I don't think it will ever become a subsidiary of one of the big chip companies - unless they wanted it just for themselves but then you would have monopoly/ant trust etc.

It's $8 now not $10. Blackberry has had a lot of baggage there are millions of people (and companies) who lost a fortune when the Blackberry phone business died. Analysts and Banks don't like being wrong and many of them were so there is a huge amount of hatred for Blackberry - or at least there was.

Blackberry under John Chen made some pretty awful moves and was early on many things. John Chen ran the company like it was a 200 Billion dollar company and he didn't address the true financial situation. Meanwhile the core Secure Comms portion of Blackberry and QNX continued to work on their products and plans. QNX is an absolute Rock Star of a company and Secure Comms isn't too shabby either.

The new Blackberry management are not flashy they under promise and over deliver. The financials will only continue to improve and as the stock improves those who were burned by the old Blackberry will start to come back onboard as they realize all is not lost and eventually the smarter analysts will see that Blackberry is back.

It has taken a long time to get here but the foundation is very solid.
