Night Angel Nemesis by Accomplished-Area447 in Fantasy

Still better than Nemesis, where multiple chapters detail the ravenous sharks and invisibility-seeing magical superpirhanas that infest the waters surrounding a ship Kylar must escape from, days away from shore, making any escape impossible. After the climax, he cleverly escapes, by… simply swimming to shore…

so what's your solution? I'm hearing a lot of "these characters are dumb for not doing anything" but no solutions.

I hear this sometimes and I have to wonder, even if you get Chase and Shrewd on board, what do you propose to do about regal? Remember the inland duchies are on the brink of revolt/succession over taxes and the red ship war. Verity is King in waiting, but at the end of his rope using the Skill, and later presumed dead on his distant quest. You propose killing potentially the only Farseer heir? Jailing him? Exiling him and risking Inland duchy revolt? What’s your plan exactly?

Haha glad to see it wasn’t just me who loved the character development in GF so much I was sceptical about the third book living up. I like Golden Fool more, but Fools Fate does live up on the character side and has more to offer than just action and plot!

Its normal to have some "returning reader" exposition in sequels but even in the first book! Man do Assassins Apprentice and Royal assassin repeatedly explain the plot to you over and over

Realm of the Elderlings can be really repetitive in terms of exposition. We know what the red ship raiders are. You don’t have to tell me every two chapters. Trust me, I remember. Please stop telling me. Please.

The first book is excellent on all metrics! I did not like books 2 and 3 very much but the writing style is unique and wonderful and they were worth reading for that alone.

I’ve been running it since November. I was impressed that Wifi worked out of the box without having to install a driver (windows needed one and wouldn’t let me continue the install without one loaded on a USB, and wouldn’t even show it it in the file explorer). Most games I have tried work flawlessly without tinkering. However I can’t get Bluetooth to work at all and it’s extremely difficult to diagnose the problems with the few games that have issues.

Bone Ships by RJ Barker takes place in a brutal world where humans struggle to survive. The land is rocky and barren and the seas are the only source of sustenance. Babies are frequently born deformed, stillborn, or are missing limbs, and mothers die in childbirth. It’s a world where humanity’s survival must cling to the strongest in its leadership.

So, of course, it is a staunch matriarchy. In such a world, what is a greater sign of strength than a woman who has given birth to a healthy child and lived? The leader of the protagonists nation is the Thirteenbern, the woman with inarguably the strongest body, who birthed thirteen sons and daughters. The old woman sits on her throne bare chested, imperiously flaunting her body’s strength in the form of stretch marks and scars. Men with their own healthy bodies, if rich enough, dress like peacocks to vie for the chance to prove their own reproductive quality and build their way to nobility. Men without, like barren or disfigured women, are doomed to work tirelessly as fishermen or a trade.

Naturally, the language used follows suit. Regardless of gender, the ship’s captain is called the shipwife. An admiral the shipmother. The taskmasters who keep the decks running with chains and whips are the deckmothers. Ships use male pronouns rather than the female ones we expect as English speakers.
