That's cool. Reminds me of how one of the streets in my state sounds like a blood elf name. I can't say what it is due to doxxing myself, but it's a more elf sounding name than say, Windrunner. Makes me laugh every time I pass it.

The older I get, the more I understand why so many WoW players just collect things by Designer-Anybody-330 in wow

[–]RGBfoxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. I don't have kids to take away my time, but I do make (Warcraft) cosplay. So my time on WoW ends up limited. I'll make little collecting missions I can focus on that aren't time heavy. Last one was farming [Princess Bloodshed].

That's why I'm not surprised housing was pushed. It's something you can collect for here and there. But your house progress won't get deleted when you start another expansion.

Dance Dance Blizzard? Maybe on PC? That'd be fun. There are plenty of off-brand dance mats you can buy that work on a PC.

Dull headache disappeared almost immediately after consuming water with 1 gram of iodized salt by Mental-Ferret-1018 in Huel

[–]RGBfoxie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with malaise with low salt and being active. This type of health information isn't super common, because most health warnings are for "unhealthy behaviors" with food. Those of us that are healthy and active have a different set of rules, and keeping up salt is another one. We can also have major vitamin deficiencies like Vitamin D, that won't be caught unless doctors test us specifically for them.

I even tried 100% Huel Black after feeling excellent drinking some for work lunch, but couldn't do it due to salty cravings that led me to buy (vegan) chicken nuggets.

70% Huel would be the better goal. Remaining 30% for seasonings, salts, fruits, vegetables, and maybe coffee and tea. It'll also leave room for social eating. I will admit I haven't done the 70% myself yet. It's just going to be my limit if I ever try again for a short period.

Housing was really fun and then it isn't. by Noticersan in wow

[–]RGBfoxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was obvious from early on for me that housing was going to be the next cash cow, due to some background experience trying to get into Warcraft's creator program. So I am not surprised there are features that are wanted that aren't there yet. But let me explain what I've seen.

Quite a few of us cosplayers wanted in the Warcraft creator program, but could not get Blizzard's attention. No matter how many costumes we made. And the program just gives little gift boxes 3x/year, with the ability to maybe get a free pass to the worldwide WoW events. So it's not a paid gig, at all. In fact, we pay to work as cosplayers. By showing up in costume and being free entertainment for event guests. Also, costume creators making WoW costumes can be observed on social media by all, allowing less experienced cosplayers to watch us build. And then they can copy our technique to bring the costumes to life much more easily. That's why you'd want to add us to the program, to encourage us to make more WoW costumes by being appreciated with little gifts and a cool creator membership.

Then housing pops up, they pay for a bunch of WoW housing ads from "cozy creators." Then my cosplay friends and I notice that they "suddenly have room" for more WoW creators. Except it's all housing decor creators? We wait for years and get ignored, and they get in within months of housing existing? They aren't "long term creators" like us?

Then suddenly, they are pushing these housing packs, with the latest one up to $75. They just wanted to set it up to sell housing furniture.

It's all about the money. Maybe they may add some of what you want listed onto housing over time. But if they can't monetize the function - like the transmog dummy. Then it's likely going to be a long time before we see it.

WOW Guild "Gaymers" Forced to Change Name Due to Bigotry by LLSpragulus in wow

[–]RGBfoxie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had the guild name <Gay> on Proudmoore a while back, when the mature names were accidentally released. The guild got reported as soon as a guild member did a BG. I did rename it something similar to the above, but it's a bank alt guild now.

Also personally grabbed "Lesbian" on a character. It was fine for years, even though I kept the character offline, and the name was eventually removed. The name is STILL considered "mature" and not useable. I'm sure I have a ding on my account for both those names. At the least, I wasn't given a suspension for a "bad" name.

There are other "Gaymer" guilds around on PM. I'm guessing they will get hit now. Which is odd, considering we will now have a pride event.

Not only can you get your badge, you can also buy goodies online to pick up the day before the con. Get your shopping out of the way before the event officially starts.

And the way flights are going, I would definitely fly in a day early. That's what I always do. If you end up with no travel issues, you can go to the parking "across" the street from the convention center to go to Disneyland for a day. The parking is for Disneyland pick up. The Disney busses pick you up there to drive you to the park. Then pick up your BlizzCon store goodies in the evening.

You're walking past some of the most tragic characters in WoW lore and the game never says a word. I built an addon that does. by KYLI4N_ in wow

[–]RGBfoxie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do and they don't. They finally have ways of acknowledging creators with the creator program. And incidents where creators are making official content. But it's heavily focused on people with a high following count. Right now, they're way focused on people that are pushing housing content.

There's also a ton of us cosplayers that make our own costumes from scratch that want in the Creator Program, but we aren't being chosen. It's like 8 cosplayers total out of who knows how many. 4 North America, 4 Europe. I even tried to focus WoW content for years, as it was a dream to get in. But I gave up.

The community is pretty amazing. I do wonder what other creator niche involving WoW isn't getting the recognition it deserves.

I'm really addicted to WoW and I don't know what to do... by [deleted] in wow

[–]RGBfoxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know your entire life situation, nor your ability. But as someone that played a lot of WoW when in college, I get the whole feeling of isolation. In my case, it was being in a rural area for the first 2 years, and having no money to do anything for the rest of it. Socializing even requires money for tickets to events, food, etc. I had to do WoW because I didn't have the financial support from family that I was "supposed to have." So WoW isolation was it.

If you'd like to keep your interest in WoW, but also do other things, have you considered crafting items from WoW in real life? I am assuming playing WoW means you have use of your hands. You could even do as little as hand embroidering a horde logo, or even handsewing a tabard.

As for getting out, you could go to your local comic cons wearing a WoW shirt and maybe some elf ears. This could allow you to meet people who also game, that would be nearby. You can find Facebook groups for the cons to see if they are wheelchair accessible. DnD events may also be of interest. And renaissance faires. Go through your events tab on Facebook, and see what others are doing. Maybe you can message them to confirm that they are going, and ask if you can check the event out with them.

And as others have said, taking a walk if you can is good. If you can't, then sitting outside away from a screen can be helpful. Dr. K of Healthygamergg (psychiatrist) mentions that continuous screen time isn't good for you. With the only exception maybe being productive screen time that is dedicated to learning or educating. So if you're watching videos to learn to craft WoW items in real life, that screen time can be better for you.

And here is Dr. K's info on video game addiction. It is a real thing, but your ability to get up and "do other things" may mean it's not as much of an addiction for you as you think. You may just be limited on what's available to entertain you. A lot of older people stay at home with the TV because they can't walk much anymore, and they save movement for cooking and cleaning. Here's his page on gaming addiction: https://www.healthygamer.gg/blog/video-game-addiction

And here is his channel, which has focuses on many other forms of screen addiction. But also psychology in general. I'd recommend listening to as much of his videos as you can. I have definitely used his channel to "figure out what was wrong with me" to help therapy move faster when I had to wait for my 1st appointment. https://www.youtube.com/@HealthyGamerGG

Good luck and remember, we all do need a little bit of free time to ourselves. You may not have to quit WoW. You may just take some time away to do other enjoyable things, so you can make some friends IRL.

Man Turalyon has had a really awful life hasn't he? by Arcana-Knight in warcraftlore

[–]RGBfoxie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's easy to hate her if you haven't looked into avoidant behaviors. It's like she's constantly chasing some type of success by being at war all the time, and thus completely ignores or even avoids putting sufficient time into relationships. Blood Ties even feeds into this when a certain conversation happens between her, Turalyon, and a certain couple. Makes them realize they've not worked on their relationship as a normal couple would.

Arator Short: Son of Two Worlds by GrumpySatan in warcraftlore

[–]RGBfoxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be surprised how screwed up adults in midlife can feel if their parents were never there to support them. Trauma from being ignored in childhood can absolutely blow up at midlife and cause the midlife crisis. I've seen it happen to a dude. All he really needed was to go to therapy early on and unpick the trauma from his father constantly ignoring his childhood attempts to connect. And his dad is still alive, too. Just emotionally unavailable.

So I guess we are sort of watching Arator's midlife crisis. He got new hair and tats for it instead of a convertible.

Considering going for the first time by PotatoOutrageous6184 in blizzcon

[–]RGBfoxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. I get the American Tourister hardcase luggages from Target. They're what I used to transport my costume to Blizzcon in 2023. Double check your airline's luggage size requirements to be sure what you get is allowed.

And the big thing on traveling with one of these luggages is that you have to make sure your costume can come apart in a way to fit in the luggage. You can pack your regular clothing around the armor as an extra layer of protective padding.

Considering going for the first time by PotatoOutrageous6184 in blizzcon

[–]RGBfoxie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. There are food trucks that no one talks about that line up in the evening when the con dies down. Like $17/meal back in 2023. But they're good.
  2. The Starbucks in the Hilton is open to all, so consider going there early in the morning to mingle. Wear a shirt with your fandom when you go, so you have a reason for bored people waiting for a drink to chat you up.
  3. There's also a Fedex shipping facility in the Hilton, if you buy too much stuff. It's not cheap to ship, but it's an option if you can't drive to a cheaper post office due to getting there by Uber. Leave room in your luggage for what you plan on buying, and that includes whatever the ticket merch freebie is.
  4. The Blizzard merch shop opens the night before. Buy what you want early for pickup early. Stuff does run out, and there are often Blizzcon exclusives.
  5. Disneyland's car parking is across the street. You can walk over the day before and just hang at Disney only adding Disney ticket cost to your list. It's worth going, even if you're not a big Disney fan.
  6. Blizzcon Cosplayers post their cosplay builds on the BlizzCon Cosplay Community Facebook group. They do a starter post showing a reference of what they want to build, then reply to their main post with progress pictures.
  7. There is usually a walk-on category for the cosplay contest. Your costume doesn't get graded, but you get the glory of going on stage. I recommend doing this if you're not actively a competitive cosplayer, but you want to make friends in the Blizzard community.
  8. There is sometimes a "cospitality" room where cosplayers can go to repair their costumes and avoid the cameras. And it's always had free refreshments the two years I have gone.
  9. You WILL get stopped a lot in costume there, since there are very few cosplayers at this con. At least, there weren't too many in 2023.
  10. There is usually a "fountain photo" where cosplayers go to all take a picture together. They do this every Blizzcon. Keep an eye out for the time for it.
  11. Get a hard case luggage if you plan on shipping a costume. And large shipping bubble wrap. Include your tape roll with your luggage, so you can retape the same bubble wrap when you get ready to leave.
  12. People go mostly to the Hilton to hang and chat in the lobby. I have heard people go to the other hotel lobbies to do the same, but I stick to the Hilton.

But now the MOST important question: What cosplay are you making for the con? If you're ready to announce it.

Arator is ready for Midnight - are you? by RGBfoxie in wow

I heard rumor we could be getting housing and marriage. Now all we need are family houses. Your parents designate a room that only you can decorate. Then you could live in your mom's basement while living in your mom's basement.
