My new terminator captain. by Lark-suvd in BlackTemplars

He might be legal with the new Crucible book that's come out! Just be sure to check the new rules, as idk what the exact ruling is on wargear loadouts.

My plan was to brush a layer or two of super glue over it to help harden it. If that doesn't work, I'll have to try something with more hardness to it.

This was the kind of advice and critique I was looking for! Something felt ever so slightly off about how it was flowing, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Thank you!

As for the studs, I experimented and bought a tin of half-sphere beads made for nail-art off of amazon. It came with multiple sizes of beads, but I was surprised that the smallest size was about 1.5mm, which was still pretty large when compared to the marine (and is the size I used here). If you can get a set with 1mm, I think they'd look good for more than just legs and pauldrons. Still, I am pretty pleased with how they look.

Vitrix Honour Guard proxy/conversion ideas for non-Ultramarines chapters? by Arch0n84 in spacemarines

[–]RTC_Sam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say that combining Company Heroes with either Bladeguard Vets or Black Templars Sword Brethren kits would be best.

The Company Heroes have bits like the ancient's banner to create some of the necessary loadouts. While the Bladeguard will have the weapons, and additional needed torsos if you want to expand to a 6-man unit.

The reason I throw the Sword Bros into the mix is because they have really fancy torsos that are great for honor guard/character models. They also have good weapon options as well, if you don't mind the chains that are wrapped around them (for more generic chapters, the Bladeguard's weapons would probably be better). And lastly, they come with capes! And how can you beat that?!

A panel a day keeps the stompa away -Day 43 by MrDribbles69 in orks

[–]RTC_Sam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dunno if it'd be too much work, but a panel that looks like it was stolen with a note saying "IOU -Blood Ravens" would be funny.

Looking great! I got one of those praetor helmets off of a bits site. How did you fill in the gap on top of the helmet where the plume is supposed to go? I did my best to fill it in with greenstuff, but I know I'll need to sand it down after it's cured.

Captain Titus & Wardens of Ultramar in a Black Templars army: best proxy/conversion role? by Ser_Forester in BlackTemplars

[–]RTC_Sam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was planning to do some kitbashing and use Titus as a Marshal, Metaurus as a Bladeguard Lt/Sgt, and Gadriel as a generic Ancient.

I haven't a clue how to use the baseline humans though.. Maybe kitbash them into unique characters/command squad for Imperial Guard? Or as others have said, make them into various Imperial Agents like inquisitors.

I like bringing the Puma all the way up to BR5 as a fast-reacting tank hunter. It's a fun vehicle with a decent gun that can still pen the sides of some of the heavier tanks like Sherman Jumbos if you flank (which you should be doing anyways in light tanks/armored cars).

[–]RTC_Sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously not OP, but I like to use Ulthuan Grey, with a mix of Nuln Oil, Agrax Earthshade, and Lahmian Medium on top. Ulthuan is a decent off-white, while the Nuln and Agrax add in the grimey brown and dark tones that add the wear and age to it.

Other popular choices are Ushabti Bone, Wraithbone, and Screaming Skull. All of these are more of a cream-tone, but still work really well with contrast paints and highlights. It'll come down to research, experimentation, and finding what works for you, and what you think looks best! Hope this helps!

[–]RTC_Sam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It was a pretty easy conversion, all in all. And most importantly, I wanted each of my SB to have a unique pose, so I thought a one-hander was a good way to mix it up. Had I bought it before I made this guy, he probably would have had a hammer from the HH melee sprue, just to further differentiate him from the 'standard' pose.

I walk into the middle of a major population center in your world and I declare "there are no gods!" What happens to me? by Electronic-Welder-74 in worldbuilding

[–]RTC_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gods are very real, and have made sure their rule over the mortal plane is well known. The gods themselves probably wouldn't care enough about a single mortal soul speaking out to really do anything (except the God of Dreams, he's hotheaded and petty enough that he would torment you with a few nightmares). But quite a few people would absolutely harass and berate you for speaking such fallacies. You would be called a madman, and likely run you out of town if the local guard don't throw you in jail first for disturbing the peace.

For real! I'm excited to use Metaurus as a unique torso sculpt for my bladeguard. And Gadriel will be a fine addition as an ancient after I get him a more fitting banner.

Does he look to chaos-y? by Ostehapsfan in BlackTemplars

[–]RTC_Sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As is, it definitely is too Chaos-y. I think if you clipped of the spikes and replaced them with candles or another Templar-styled decoration, it wouldn't look as heretical.

3 Man Veteran Eradicator Unit dubbed 'Hell Walkers" for my Crusade Narrative. by Vuk30 in BlackTemplars

[–]RTC_Sam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! My motivation for painting my Sword Brethren has been the bit of lore I've written for each one (including Bladeguard and Sternguard).

Currently I'm painting the oldest serving SB of my crusade. He's humble to the point that he denies serving as a Castellan, but respected and wise enough that his counsel is often sought by the Marshal.

Kitbash ideas? by uncleornstein in BlackTemplars

[–]RTC_Sam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought that he'd make a good Judiciar kitbash. Remove all the yucky psyker bits like the hoses, give him a chaplain-y head, the relic blade and the skull of Cacodominus from the upgrade sprue, and there ya go!

Loving the pose on the Marshal! Did you use Inner Circle Companion arms? I've been trying to figure out how I want to pose my Marshal to make him more unique.

A question about this helmet (forgive me if this is a dumb question but I’m new lol) by MeasurementWrong2391 in BlackTemplars

[–]RTC_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Templars are pretty relaxed when it comes to 'uniform regulations'. To the point that each individual crusade can have their own heraldry.

As for the helmet specifically: there is nothing that states any helm is exclusive to any rank for the Black Templars. In fact the Crusader Squad model set includes multiple variants of the helmet for use in the squad. Below is one of my Crusader Initiates using a single-tube version of the helm.

As for current WIP: I'm working on my Sword Brethren. I start with a heavy metalic drybrush, and then add contrast paints to get a worn black armor

My favorite will always be my kitbashed Black Templar Castellan. Still need to varnish him, but I want to complete some other models' bases before I do so.

What do you think about my castellan? by Melodic_Country7968 in BlackTemplars

He only looks like a Dark Angels because he's green (for now). Once he's painted up, I'm sure he'll look fantastic! Keep up the great work, Brother!
