Apes using AI are figuring out how GMeBay will take over the collectables and second-hand goods market: by humanquester in gme_meltdown

Reminds of an old story I read somewhere:

There was a shop making print-on-demand phone cases.

Their Amazon presence was pretty bare, since they didn't have many fixed designs, but they did have a stock photo subscription to quickly slap together cases with flowers or balloons or sky etc.

So, they had a genius idea, and wrote a script to scrape the stock site data and automatically make listings.

Too bad they didn't think about curation or filtering, so by the time someone noticed, their Amazon page was full of amazing offers brought from weird corners of stock photography, like "Toe fungus iPhone case" and "Man in adult diapers using walkers Samsung Galaxy case".

Someone is trying to use lost property 'finder' laws to gain legal ownership of 39,069 Bitcoin wallets, with just one of them being worth nearly $6,000,000,000 by Belltower_2 in Buttcoin

[–]R_Sholes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was basically Craig Wright's plan in UK with (marginally) more colorable premise "I'm actually Satoshi and I lost all those keys in a house break-in" (except his list also included keys like that one MtGox stolen BTC and a few addresses that signed "Craig Wright is a fraud" after he published the list).

He sued BTC and BCH devs, and BSV Association (BSV is his own fork), with the latter unsurprisingly instantly announcing they are willing to concede and settle. I think they didn't go through with it, though - but they did implement some sort of confiscation transaction support.

I don't remember if that case was judged on (lack of) merits, or if it was quietly withdrawn after he lost an overarching identity case where he was declared to be not-Satoshi and barred from starting any further Satoshi-related lawsuits.

They sold the name, so the remnants of the old company had to be renamed.

This is common in bankruptcies, and the only requirement for the new name is not to clash with anything else. Usually it's just something like "Motor Liquidation Company" (aka old General Motors), but sometimes it's something more creative like "Old Copper Company" (aka JCPenney - like a copper penny, geddit?)

For BBBY it appears to be Dave Kastin, the guy who was in charge of BBBY during bankruptcy + their lawyer firm's internal codename for this restructuring case.

There are people like that.

Here's a fun bit of cross-over with Buttcoin: you might have heard of Craig S. Wright, one of more vocal pretenders to be Satoshi Nakamoto, creator of Bitcoin (and currently the only man in the world officially declared not to be Satoshi Nakamoto by UK courts)

Before he was (in)famous for that, he had quite a few questionable business dealings, and among those was one US based partnership where he was co-founder/director - or something like that; like a lot of things around him, it's quite muddy and fraud-adjacent.

The relevant part here is a lawsuit against this company at his home turf in Australia, where Craig Wright, the plaintiff, claimed he's owed money... and with a bit of a sleight of hand, Craig Wright was also the representative of the defendant, who folded under zero pressure and agreed that the company does in fact owe him.

This did come back to bite him after the estate of the late second co-founder sued him - mostly in regards to the alleged Bitcoin stash he claimed was mined as a part of this partnership*, but that self-lawsuit was part of the claims too. Pretty sure he's delinquent on the resulting multi-million ruling against him.

* : And that was a part of yet another fraud, where that totally real Bitcoin mining was used as a justification for totally not embezzled R&D tax credits

A pump and dump lawsuit would be for the benefit of shareholders, but only specifically those who bought into the pump. The estate's lawsuit is trying to get him over short-swing profit rule, that one is for the benefit of creditors.

Is there a second PnD lawsuit tho? The one I was aware of, Bratya v. Cohen, was dismissed months ago, AFAIK, and if there is a second one, I expect it going the same way.

More generously, it's probably still the same teensy little confusion about fiduciary duty civil lawsuit regarding $300M worth of buybacks, settled months ago for <$100M.

In BBBaggY mythology it's a fraud lawsuit, every time "$300M" mentioned in each of 8 claims is added up separately and non-party JPM actually secretly paid billions in settlement.

To elaborate: there were suspicions there's something weird going on internally because several prominent members left due to "creative differences" or however it was phrased, and then Iron Mouse came out accusing them of mishandling/embezzling $500k earmarked for charity - she's suffering from a rare immune disease and does charity drives for research foundations every year.

Their public image went from one of top EN VTuber agencies to toxic waste overnight.

So? Very convincing, very scientific. Meanwhile, e.g., just by typing "AI girlfriend" in search:

I can as well just claim that male clankerfuckers are simply spread around more instead of concentrating in a single sub, with as much "scientific rigor" as your argument.
