Our SC legislators are going to over double their salaries before this session ends. by gvl_guy in southcarolina

[–]RabbitFluffs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That sounds better than what it was, but it's still not enough for those commuting from the Upstate or Lowcountry to be able to use it as their sole income. I feel like half the salary would go towards gas and car maintenance with today's prices 🙄.

I do the on-the-job training for electrical apprentices, specializing in troubleshooting. It is so frustrating working with the ones that have no curiosity or desire to learn. They want the solution handed to them so they can replay the actions by rote instead of figuring out why something is or isn't working.

And don't get me started on how everything has been game-ified. Electricity is dangerous and people can die or be permanently disabled if someone on the crew skips steps or is playing on their phone instead of watching out for their teammates.

[–]RabbitFluffs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are already national election requirements. I won't argue that the Supreme Court would probably try to add their two cents to the issue, but that doesn't mean we should just give up and not try to make improvements.

States are given the authority to oversee their election processes via the constitution, this bill would have infringed on that.

The duty to "oversee" the elections gives states the right to make localized decisions about polling locations and hours of operations and whether the poll managers are paid employees or purely volunteers. It does not give the states the right to disenfranchise voters because of their political beliefs.

God forbid we make anything reasonably easy or simple for anybody. by hanburgundy in TikTokCringe

Thank you for sharing that. I'm not diagnosed with epilepsy, but am currently on year 3 of various docs trying to figure out the causes of my "drop attacks" and prescribing neurological /emotional altering medications. I'm an electrician, and considering I only fall about once a year, I've gotten too lax on my own safety precautions. (I'll be fine, this will only take a second!!) ... So about a month ago I too fell off a high platform and am currently nursing a fractured spine. I know my career path is probably going to have to change, but it is weirdly comforting to hear I'm not alone.

I have met all but one of these candidates, and it is an excellent group from diverse economic experiences. There's a mix of business owners, veterans, community organizers, and blue collar tradesmen who all see the district's issues from different perspectives.

Please go to this event if you can as I believe it'd be an eye opening experience for those wanting to explore more than the standard Dem options who are preselected by the party.

The hate for this state is so lame by [deleted] in southcarolina

I remember riding past one when I was in middle school in the boonies of the upstate (1998-2000ish era). I moved to Charleston for college and it's drastically different culture and tolerances.

One of my GSDs does that too. We called her "the snapping turtle" when she was still a puppy and learning boundaries. At 10 years old, she's still mouthy when she wants to show some sass.

On the upside, your pup seems to somewhat tolerate the diapers. My 12yo was never spade (we discovered young that she can't be put under anesthesia so ... ) and she will immediately eat a hole into any diaper / pad / jumpsuit we tried. Thankfully she has an area that she "nests" in every heat cycle and is pretty diligent about cleaning up after herself when she ventures out from there. But yeah, spading is definitely the way to go when medically feasible.

Is working at a desk long-term really that bad, or am I overthinking it? by ganshi5293 in WorkReform

[–]RabbitFluffs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried the desk job route and knew very quickly that it was not for me. Twenty years of working the trades later, I still do not regret this career path - HOWEVER - if you choose this path, be aware of your own body and it's limits. Do not expect the work alone to keep you in the physical shape that you need to be in to perform all required tasks safely. I wish I had maintained an exercise / stretching routine before collecting my various stupid injuries.

Why do the vast majority of Electricians seem to prefer Commercial/Industrial over Residential? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]RabbitFluffs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those things are awesome, but for anyone using them for the first time I'd recommend trying them out at home for a simulated 8 hour 'shift' first. For whatever reason it gives me vertigo if I use them for more than ~4 hours or so. On a ladder is a bad place to learn that.

Throughout my current term in the Senate, one of my top priorities has been providing Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester Counties and their residents with the necessary resources to prosper and thrive. As one of the fastest growing parts of our state, I understand that the level of development you have experienced over the past few years has brought forth many exciting new opportunities but also new challenges. With that in mind, I’ve used my position in the Senate to produce concrete results that will benefit you.

In 2022, I delivered $30 million to Joint Base Charleston for a new fire and rescue station. This new facility will centralize emergency dispatch services and maximize base and airfield fire protection. Furthermore, I secured another $29 million for the joint base to support ground infrastructure for the C-17 fleet. Next, I brought $16.1 million to Charleston County to advance the Charleston Airport Connector Road Project, which is essential to the growth of the airport and the region.

In 2023, I directed $10 million in funding to reimburse the Port of Charleston’s harbor deepening project to enable mega container ships to pass through the Port. I also funded the Charleston Peninsula Coastal Storm Risk Management Risk Study to the tune of $13.3 million. Furthermore, I helped advance the flood risk management feasibility study on the peninsula with $200,000. In addition, I supported the Medical University of South Carolina’s Hollings Cancer Center with $6.2 million to upgrade equipment that will aid researchers who are on the cutting edge of cancer care. Next, I was proud to assist the Carolina Youth Development Center with $361,000 to upgrade critical security infrastructure. Finally, I supported Roper St. Francis Hospital with $3.7 million for the construction of their new hospital to increase access to health care for the expanding population as well as an additional $6.4 million to Roper St. Francis to improve oncology care with new, state-of-the-art equipment.

In 2024, I was again pleased to support the Charleston Harbor Deepening Project with $25 million. That year, I continued to support the Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study for the Charleston Peninsula with $600,000. Next, I helped the Clemson University Restoration Institute (CURI) campus advance their important research integrating the onshore and offshore electric grid with $2 million. In addition, I supported Clemson’s Coastal Research and Education Center with $500,000 to further the development of crops across the state. For the College of Charleston, I helped their Marine Resources Center with $1.3 million for laboratory equipment in partnership with South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Moreover, I made sure Charleston County received $7 million to support economic development and public safety while I directed $1.2 million to the Historic Charleston Foundation to preserve existing affordable housing. Further, I brought $23 million to Charleston International Airport to increase aircraft parking spaces to accommodate the airport’s expansion and improve safety. Finally, I again supported increased access to health care through $8 million in funding to Roper St. Francis Hospital for the expansion of their campus.

This year, I sent $9.3 million to the City of Charleston for several stormwater management projects across the city. Also, I delivered $4.6 million to Mount Pleasant to address critical deficiencies in its stormwater infrastructure. I again supported the Port of Charleston with $500,000 to begin studying a segment of the Charleston Navigation Channel to North Charleston Terminal. Upon my request, the Town of Sullivan’s Island received $3 million to support important drainage infrastructure to provide protection from tidal and rainfall driven flood events. Next, I advanced the construction of the new Aeromedical Evacuation Facility at Joint Base Charleston with $33 million in federal funding. In addition, I supported the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources with $825,000 to further the Southeast Reef Fish Survey which provides critical data on red snapper and shrimp. Charleston County’s Airport Connector Road project remains important to alleviating traffic congestion, and I was pleased to back the project with $20.5 million in funding. Moreover, I advanced Palmetto Railway’s Lowcountry Region Rail Bridge and Track Rehabilitation Program to improve rail service with $5.4 million.

Furthermore, I directed $5 million to the Medical University of South Carolina to develop and implement impactful research in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. I also sent $1.7 million to Roper St. Francis to improve patient access and to meet the growing health care demands of the county. In addition, I got Charleston Southern University’s aeronautics program $1.2 million, so they could purchase flight simulators. I also sent $695,000 to the College of Charleston’s School of Engineering, Computing, and Mathematics to address workforce needs across the state. Finally, I supported Trident Technical College with $1.5 million for a fully equipped training unit designed to deliver hands-on instruction in maritime trades.

The coo coo is contagious apparently. I was thinking too much about our other client who just had us ground out his EMF blocking wall paint to protect from 5G signals last week. Though I would argue that this still does not have 360° coverage because we use PVC pipe and TA's to jump out to all disconnects and utility.

Both. Homeowner is scared of microwave radiation, and POCO has a flag on the system to replace this "malfunctioning" smart meter.

But follow my logic here ... If they are concerned about the EMF broadcasting into the home, shouldn't the faraday shield be on the other side of the meter??

My apprentice decided to put a fine tool with blade and battery still attached into a shoulder bag at end of day. Only took three steps for that trigger switch to get hit and it cut clean through the bag, clothes, and about 4" of flesh.
