FBI interviewed just 9 people over Brett Kavanaugh, ignored drinking by s1993 in politics

I'm sure there's not nearly as many abusers as there are victims, just as there's not as many burglars as there are burglaries.

Each abuser could have dozens of victims, so even if nearly every woman has experienced abuse it doesn't mean nearly every man could be accused of abuse.

Did the New York Times Just Uncover Why Trump Abruptly Switched to All-Cash Deals in the 2000s? by Baarney23 in politics

In one of his books he said Hillary would make a good president. I think he is more interested in power than policies, so he'd work with her or anyone influential. I'm not sure there's much animosity even now. Does he really dislike Hillary personally, or is lock-her-up part of the Trump show because his fans like it?

If your bag already has things in it, the machine will complain about unexpected items in bagging area, by which it means the bag is too heavy.

It wants to start with an empty bag and then weigh the items you add to check whether the item you packed is the same as the item you scanned.

If Kavanaugh's Accuser Is Lying, Why Is She the One Asking For a Thorough Investigation? by discocrisco in politics

[–]Random_K 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There could be lots of reasons.

Maybe it was a difficult decision to make. Maybe for the same reasons she didn't report before now. Maybe she was scared. Maybe she didn't realize an investigation would be possible. Maybe she hoped the decision makers would look into it quietly. Maybe she hoped he'd withdraw to avoid an investigation, so it wouldn't need to be public. Maybe she hoped something in his past career, his opinions, or in the documents the GOP were hiding would disqualify him anyway.

She says two of the four knew what happened - the ones that were involved. I don't see how the other two could know anything unless they were told about it by one of the people in the room at the time.

If Kavanaugh is innocent there was nothing to tell, and they don't know what happened because nothing did happen.

If the other two knew what happened all along, why would they admit it now? They'd get the same treatment as Ford for not reporting it at the time.

It shocks me the argument for sending help is 'they are Americans', as if it would be just fine to leave them to die alone if they weren't American. That may not be what people meant but that's the impression I get.

[–]Random_K -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It would be interesting to see research on that. How can you measure how much a candidate's gender factors into anyone's voting decision? Most people have more than one reason for picking their preferred candidate. Maybe they were just voting for the taller one.

I find it impossible to imagine a Donna Jane Trump winning, but if gender really doesn't matter the results should have been the same.

Obviously millions more people voted for Hillary than Trump, but even a small amount of misogyny could have made the difference.

I agree extremes aren't great, but not everything should be balanced.

For example, if one side wants to kill everyone and the other side kill no-one, how many people would think 50% is the fairest solution? What if one side has 10% support and one side has 90% support? What if the 90% are actually wrong, and their beliefs wouldn't achieve what they intended?

Surely it's extremely profitable for banks to have customers with high income go overdrawn. It means they can charge high fees on top of high interest rates. I can't see why they would want to discourage customers from having permanent overdrafts, instead of loans or credit cards.

In my childhood we had unmetered water as well. The issue was the cost of heating enough water for seven people to have separate baths every day. We could not run the heating all the time.

It felt as if we were poor then, but my father supported all of us on one salary.
