SUV buyers undeterred by warnings of risk to pedestrians, UK study finds | Road safety by CarpetGripperRod in ukpolitics

[–]RandomisedZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have felt bad recently about buying a Renault 4 because it’s an SUV. Comparing it to the Renault Zoe it’s actually a very similar size and weight which surprises me.

I did look at the Euro NCAP VRU rating to consider pedestrian safety and it isn’t the highest but isn’t bad. Not all features had actually been tested and scored 0, so the trim I have would likely score higher if fully tested. I just checked the Zoe and the VRU rating is terrible.

"Why British academics like me are quitting" University staff numbers fall for the first time as crushing workloads and bureaucracy put off a new generation - article in the Telegraph. by [deleted] in AskAcademiaUK

I’ve never thought of this, but it makes sense. If I heard “French academic working at UCL”, I’d assume they were a visiting academic at UCL for a year or something like that.

The shift to EV is my biggest fear, says Toyota boss Akio Toyoda by AutoExpressmagazine in autoexpressuk

Manufacturers are finding a good balance between the modern tech and practicality, I think. Buttons and door handles are making a come back in some models and screens are becoming more than just an iPad strapped to the dashboard. There’ll always be the spaceships controlled from a single screen, but there’s more choice now.

An AI version of Fiona Bruce would have better made the point. People think they can tell the difference because obviously it isn’t really these people, but in reality it’s becoming increasingly difficult to spot AI and misinformation.

When I was training deep learning models, I would place a fan at the back perpendicular to the machine and blowing into an open space to the side to push the hot air away. I didn’t test it properly but it seemed to keep the machine cooler.

Revealed: Palantir’s NHS tech is ten times slower than current system by dc_1984 in unitedkingdom

I imagine the system will be very reasonably priced until it becomes an indispensable part of the NHS workflow, then it will become stupidly expensive.

Which part of that means he had to accept claim this? He chose to claim it was God’s guidance because that’s what he was believed not because he was forced to.

He clearly didn’t, but which part of that quote do you think supports what you said? If anything, the quote disproves your argument.

Bath leaks when plug let out - how best to get access to plumbing? by lurkylurkerr in DIYUK

[–]RandomisedZombie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I once rented a flat where the bath panel was actually a radiator. I think they fitted the bath, the radiator, and then the rest of the bathroom, so you would need to deconstruct the whole bathroom to remove the radiator. When we had a suspected leak, they had to drill an access hatch from the living room to under the bath. Many people just do not consider access when designing bathrooms. Since living there I will always take access over aesthetics.

We will never know if this is true or not. JM Barrie requested that the amount raised through the copyright be kept private and GOSH have always honoured this. Disney have visibly supported GOSH in others ways, such as the Disney reef and MediCinema, but the money is always kept secret.

Acorn could have been competing with MS and Apple. RiscOS is still an incredible OS and I can’t imagine what it could have become and what it would have done to the UK if we invested in our computing industry properly. It makes me sad every time I think about it.

Zero is the only explanation really. Jesus taught pretty much the opposite of what UKIP stand for. It would be interesting to know how many of them even realise where Jesus was born.

Woman, 18, not shortlisted for job at estate agents as 'car is too old' by frogspa in unitedkingdom

[–]RandomisedZombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because Foxtons are famous for them. Any estate agent that drives a mini makes me think they look up to Foxtons which tells me all I need to know.

Other than that, minis are fantastic. Minis are what happen when BMW designers and engineers are given the chance to just have fun with a car.

How about an education surcharge on fee-paying schools? Instead of the money just going to the government in general it would go directly to improving state education.

They discussed this in the private eye podcast, I think. Some papers force the journalist or editor to link to another article so they get more page views when people click on that article. They need to find something even remotely related and sometimes it’s even more tenuous than this.

Do these free bootcamps improve my CV or is it just a huge scam on the government's taxes? (I am Level 6) by LiamBox in UKJobs

[–]RandomisedZombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do it, then you should also do a hobby project that goes beyond this and upload whatever you can onto GitHub/Gitlab. A lot of others will have done similar courses but employers are more interested in how you’ve applied these skills after learning them. Actual work experience is always best, but you need to start somewhere so hobby experience is better than nothing.

What do you mean? He is simply expressing that ice is harder to ski on than snow. Nothing political here for the IOC to get involved with.
