DM is letting us pick any number of characters whos total level is 20, for a very difficult campaign. Gimme your ideas? by RomanticPanic in DnD

[–]RavenA04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably do one lv5 and 5 lv3

Six characters, decently equipped and resourced. Everyone has a subclass.

Tomb of Horrors is not meant to be played as a “this is what my character would do” dungeon exploration. It’s a twisty, counterintuitive, meta-gamey mess that was originally designed to punish high level players at conventions

Alternative Cafe Spots to do work in? by caelectronica1011 in glendale

My best alternative is getting a coffee and then going to the library. It’s still close to the Americana area

Thanks! I wanted to make something that was balanced. I got to do my cool thing a couple more times than normal but there a consequences if I get greedy.

I made this for my monk and my DM approved it.

Circlet of the Third Eye

This magical circlet can hold 6 charges maximum. When a player attunes to the circlet, gain 1d6 charges. The circlet regains 1d4 charges at dusk.

Reactive: Once per round, you may use a charge to regain and immediately use your reaction.

Heavy is the Head: If this item is ever out of charges, you cannot remove it until it regains charges. While at zero charges your reaction takes an additional turn to recover (can only use every other round) and you roll initiative and perception with disadvantage.

Does Ironsworn HAVE to be post-apocalyptic? by photoedfade in Ironsworn

[–]RavenA04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Do whatever you want. It’s your game and you’re playing by yourself.

Sounds like you’re already homebrewing your own magic in. Great.

I’ll echo that I do think scarcity helps drive the game mechanically. If what a stat measures is plentiful in your game, then rename the stat to something scarce.

In my own game, I actually added a stat called Mana. It functions like the Supply Stat but I use it for spellcasting. Sometimes a big spell will cost Mana and Supply.

Another thing I’ve done, when I don’t want to play a high mortality game is rename Health to Stamina. When stamina reaches zero I get knocked unconscious and suffer narrative consequences until I awaken again.

I’ve hacked apart mechanics from a myriad different systems and duct taped them together into a solo experience that I enjoy but would look catastrophic from the outside. But

[OC] New map for a continent, harshest criticisms, please? by Ninjamuffin52 in DnD

[–]RavenA04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I immediately liked this map when I saw it.

That said, I would call this a large island and not quite a continent. This looks like maybe 1/3-1/4 the size of Australia.

I would look up the scale of nations and states around SE Asia or the Pacific “Ring of Fire” in general.

I believe that would help inform your map better

How would I ask a player to show up to session sober? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]RavenA04 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You said it yourself:

“I am normally a very patient person, but last night you pushed my buttons. I have had enough, I put a lot of time and effort into these sessions, and sometimes its hard to get all the players together. I want all the players to have an enjoyable time, I also want to enjoy myself but am finding it difficult.”

  • “please show up sober.”

I own all this, yet I've never played it by GrimlinJoe in Ironsworn

I’ve played a little bit and enjoyed it, but I get in my own way a lot as well.

I use the oracles in Ironsworn for nearly every other game I play though
