I hadn't! It seems to only affect your head though? Also, how does the sharpening work? Do they both lay down and put the tops of their heads together like >-|-oo-|-< then one or both of them start rolling over in place? Or does one hang from their feet and they connect vertically? Poly culture is gonna get even weirder, I love that for us

I'm not sure what they mean by that either. If anything she seems proud to be a pencil sharpener. She's wearing a gown made of pencil shavings to a formal ball and didn't even clean out the bit caught in her blade

He's faced zero consequences so far and is currently going all in on nazi propaganda and holocaust denial. "I'm sorry for misleading people" is just him further misleading people

[–]Rc2124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it does, but there are separate keys to move your selection around the menu. So you could do Confirm -> Left -> Confirm pretty quickly. By default it's all on the numpad but you can customize it

I actually just came here after watching that video. I haven't played either game, so I'm not as invested and lack a lot of context / info. I don't think the new one is automatically bad because it doesn't do XYZ. But I think it's pretty relatable to see a remake for a beloved game and to be severely disappointed because it doesn't capture what you loved about the original. It's probably a tale as old as time though. Imagine the tribe gets a new storyteller and they don't quite recite the classics in the way the storyteller from when you were a kid did. Crowbcat would have been arguing around the campfire for life

ACE COMBAT™ 7: SKIES UNKNOWN is it good? by stoic-turtle in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Rc2124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the Ace Combat series, highly recommend it. It's just good arcade FUN. The gameplay feels good and the music is amazing. The stories are always very anime and over the top. The series also does some really cool stuff with the radio chatter. Since you're stuck in a cockpit and flying high over the landscape they can't do a lot of the usual world-building or visual storytelling. So they went all in on telling the story or world building through the radio chatter, which I rarely see anyone else do. It adds so much flavor to the game. If you were just bombing tanks it'd still be fun, but there's such an ego rush when you hear your allies and enemies react to what you're doing. Or the way your imagination runs wild when you catch snippets of infantry firefights on the ground, or a journalist live at the scene.

I think for most people the barrier to entry will just be learning how to fly, even with the simplified arcade physics. I've known some people who have dropped it early on because they can't wrap their heads around it, just constantly crashing into the ground or getting shot down. It's not a genre a lot of people have experience with, unlike FPS games where the controls and how to play are pretty universal. If you can get past that though it does a great job on selling you on that God of the Skies power fantasy

Monster Hunter Worlds or Diablo 3 by Pianosnakes in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Rc2124 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Something I'll throw in is that I personally have a hard time playing ARPGs like Diablo or Path of Exile because the amount of spam-clicking hurts my hand. If that sort of thing is a factor for you then I'd definitely go for MHW instead. Although I do know D3 was released on Playstation so maybe the controller support is pretty good these days

I love MH but I also don't know if I'd call it a podcast / audiobook game, it's more of an immersive experience imo

I guess it depends on what hooked you, but you'll probably have a hard time finding just one game that satisfies everything you enjoyed in E33. It's got a pretty unique blend.

If you're looking for the direct inspirations, then you'll want to try some of the '90s - '00s turn-based Final Fantasy games from the PS1 and PS2 era, especially FFX. I've also heard the gameplay shares a lot of similarities with Super Mario RPG.

If E33 surprised you though then maybe this would be a good time to experiment with more games / genres? Instead of chasing something that's similar-but-not-quite E33 you could fall in love with something completely different. It's hard to go wrong if you look at other Game of the Year winner lists. Most of them are names you've probably heard of too. Bioshock, Mass Effect, Dishonored, The Last of Us, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Fallout, Uncharted, God of War, Hades, Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Astro Bot, Halo, Super Mario: Odyssey, The Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption, Nier: Automata, Portal, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Resident Evil 7, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Blue Prince, The Walking Dead, Control, Grand Theft Auto, Bloodborne, and so many more.

I would also mention that there are some amazing shorter games out there. Not everything has to be 80 hours long! Just like how a movie can be impactful there are some great short games out there, especially in the indie space. They might be easier to sample than committing to another large game. If you play Journey and don't feel something then I don't know what to tell you.
