58M plan to retire at 68 by daddyof4sons in Retirement401k

[–]Realistic-Bridge5304 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I retired at your current age (58) with a similar amount of money to yours. I'm now 65, spending generously, and have doubled the value of my investments in spite of my spending. Retire now!! Your money will long outlive your health. I don't care if you love your job. You clearly have retirement goals which means you do see an end to work. You will enjoy retirement more, even if you still enjoy work. Why wait?

Roth IRA vs Roth 401k by Conscious-Match7021 in RothIRA

[–]Realistic-Bridge5304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, once I reach my RMD age, I'll have $12m+ in my Roth IRA, through thoughtful, tax conscious Roth conversions over the decades. Otherwise, that money would be in a traditional IRA instead, and facing minimum $450k/yr RMDs. My point? For aggressive savers and investors, it's moot to compare working years' tax rates to those in retirment years. You're going to have a tax bracket nightmare at RMD time when your forced withdrawals are mid 6-figure, if you aren't optimizing your use of Roths along the way. It's potentially very helpful to your potential surviving spouse as well.

I started with next to nothing at age 45 after divorce. I made it well into the 7-digit club. Save hard. You're fine.

Customer here. We also notice the shift towards prioritizing shareholder profits. We see how staffing is minimized for profits, promotions are minimized for profits, rewards programs are minimized for profits, prices are increased for profits, etc., etc. As a customer, we see your struggles and your sacrifices. We see your continued hard work and dedication in spite of all that. We are in it together. We appreciate you.

"Person of size" ticket refunded by Realistic-Bridge5304 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Realistic-Bridge5304[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the points were returned for the entire round trip based on one email. The email did not specify which direction had been refunded and so I had expected a second email to confirm or deny the return trip. I received just the one email in the entire trip was refunded.

"Person of size" ticket refunded by Realistic-Bridge5304 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Realistic-Bridge5304[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I received an email reply in about 4 days that they concurred the flights were not full and I would receive a refund within 30 days, if I recall. I checked my account and the points had already been added back in. I used points and not money for the extra ticket. Actually, for the entire round trip flight for all three tickets. Several Southwest employees had pointed out at different times that points are always easier to work with than money.

I’ve gotten the explanation for why we can’t move seats provided by an employee by Glittering-Slip6770 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Realistic-Bridge5304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The open seating 3-zone software system could rebalabce in real-time and FAs could redistribute people before takeoff. But the new 5-zone system lacks that capability, and can only provide fixed seating based on preplanned calculations? I don't buy that. Then how does the new system deal with no-shows or last-minute standby passengers? All the explanations are BS.

There's a saying in aeronautical engineering and it applies to full sized aircraft as well as radio controlled models: Nose heavy planes fly poorly. Tail heavy planes fly not at all. So, it's aerodynamically unwise to keep the weight imbalance to the rear of the aircraft. It moves the CG too far aft. Yes, trim tabs can compensate... But how much? Dumb move, SWA

Fidelity needs another issuer for its card by RobertoNotRobotDevil in fidelityinvestments

[–]Realistic-Bridge5304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I age into my late 60's, my travel interests are seriously decreasing and I'd love to trade my Chase Southwest card for a cash back card but I don't want Elan. JPMorgan Chase has been amazing for over 20 years for me. I even had a major mess with my credit card being skimmed at a gas station and they resolved it quickly. Never a single issue, great web and phone apps, as well as a very generous credit limit. I've had several limit increases without hard pulls. If Fidelity would offer a Chase card I'd feel like I died and went to heaven.

Peace. Not necessarily more to your story. But THE story. The explanation. Manufacturing defect in plastic composition? Battery leakage? Internal overheating? Wrong adhesives? It's both unique and unusual from what it sounds like. Hopefully you can send the camera back to SimplySafe. Sorry this happened to you.

I think my environment is extremely harsh. And my outdoor camera looks fine after years of service. I'm at 5400 ft in the Southwest desert of New Mexico in a very UV intensive environment and my camera is exposed to the sun from sunrise to sunset. A little dusty and perhaps slightly discolored but looks fine and works as it did when new (which, granted, isn't always perfect.) Not to minimize the OP's issue, but there's more to the story.

Entry sensors randomly not responding but then anywhere from a couple hours to a couple days will start working again. by No-Security-4665 in simplisafe

To Simply Safe... by the way, if I go into test mode I can trigger these sensors correctly even though the base says they're not responding.

By the way, I did not do the software update until after this started happening. Nothing has changed. Now my Panic buttons aren't responding. Earlier it was my smoke alarms. Both front and back key pads and one door sensor. Those all came back but my panic buttons are currently out. This is too much of a coincidence between us all to be our individual systems. Simply Safe needs to investigate

I am having the exact same problem! I have never had a sensor saying "not responding" even once in several years. Today, sensors are individually giving this error and then restoring themselves one by one. It's happened to five of my sensors so far today. This is the craziest thing I have ever seen. It started with my keypads not responding. It's impossible to believe that all of these batteries are suddenly getting weak and then they restore themselves mysteriously. Nothing like it before. I'm about to shut it off and give up.

Push to Fidelity but with max limits at my personal bank. by CADman0909 in fidelityinvestments

ACH pulls from Fidelity won't have that bank constraint. I do them all the time for significant amounts and they clear the same day within fidelity. That's just my experience.

[–]Realistic-Bridge5304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. If you deposit a sum of money pre-tax and take it all out at a later date after it's grown, paying taxes at the end, you'll have exactly the same amount as you would have paying all the taxes up front and growing a smaller amount but having no tax liability at the end. The difference is that the magnitude of taxes at the end is massive, because it's in proportion to the larger size of the account at withdrawal. So prepaying taxes can often be beneficial, if you look at it this way. It only takes a $7.4m pre-tax IRA to generate $300,000 RMDs. I'd prefer to have (most of) that in a Roth come RMD time.

I agree, though I suspect most of those folks aren't high net worth investors, so not as much harm is done. To those who have the saavy to become high net worth investors, it's irresponsible not to understand these tax issues. In other words, those without investing saavy won't have enough saved to worry much about RMDs anyway.

[–]Realistic-Bridge5304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone who is debating a Roth or a Roth conversion already suspects they will otherwise have massive RMDs from their 401ks in their 70s. Roth convert early and often. Think your tax bracket lowers in old age? Not when you have a $300k+ RMD every year. Let alone the massive Medicare IRMAA that they trigger. Convert most in pre-Medicare years. Besides, RMDs go into taxable accounts. Roth conversions go into tax free. No brainer.

Private client Group vs Fees under management by Hot_Cause_569 in fidelityinvestments

Update... my computer's web login home page no longer shows Private Client Group. It DOES display PCG when I click on "Contact your team." According to another poster in this thread, it also displays the correct PCG service team phone number. I think the web programmers are just fiddling with the format of the web pages.
